"staying at home working on their vacuum cleaner" O.o....weird hobby. my great-aunt had schizophrenia and my first cousin is bi-polar. i myself have schizoid tendencies though i wouldn't say i have the disorder.
Could Schizoid really just be Asperger's? I've always been a loner, even in childhood. I'm an auromatic asexual. I was diagnosed with AS at eight (although I didn't speak until I was 5). I've never felt I had much in common with other people with AS becuase they all wanted friendships and intimacy. My mother always remarked that I was going to grow up to be a hermit.
I wonder how the schizoid type fits into the human evolutionary mechanisms, since they these traits were passed on.
Maybe these SPD types are necessary in the gene pool for survivable in extreme environments owing to their autonomy and ability to thrive in isolation..
why would you want to treat someone who's like this? i happen to like my life like this, i don't like people, i don't like intrusiveness, i happen to like my cerebreal life, why do people think it needs to be changed and labelled? it's not a disease, it's my personality. bah humbug. but oh well, doesn't matter, this is how society seems to be.
@tsutsi1982 I should think that individuals would be treated for SzPD if the illness is causing problems in their life: they're not self-sufficient, they can't maintain emotionally stability, their miserable, &c.. If you're functioning and perceive yourself to be happy, you may have some of the symptoms without rising to the level of "disorder." There's nothing wrong with being a little eccentric...
It's pretty interesting. I have probably seen few of them. I do not really relate with this disorder but I certainly fooled psychiatrist and myself to diagnose me with this one.
My disorder is more like pretty extreme avoidant. I am not very anxious when I try my best to be very remote. Still constantly wanting to be more open. Criticism hurts me intensely inside and I certainly like to meet people when it is possible.
How come you are making these videos about personality disorders? I have schizoid personality disorder and watch all videos people put on YouTube about it. There is a short but detail rich video here on YouTube called "Hermit: Schizoid Personality Disorder." It is very insightful.

I fell in love for a schizoid once. He totally ignored my massive flirtations. Platonic love :-(
