@DonFarshido I took japanese films as an elective in film school, and this movie blew me away. It was my first and favorite Ozu film. Of the thousands of movies I've seen, I couldn't beleive that a film could be so sublime.
When our professor was asked afterwards on why Noriko offered marriage to her widower friend, he said that was just standard of the culture. I knew that she offered marriage because she loved him. Everything else going on was just meant to express that point.. soo sublime
Although it is ridiculous to pick one, this in my opinion is the most complex, the most subtle ant the most moving work Ozu has made.
