This reminds me of a time like 6 years ago in Walmart. I was dressed in male clothes and had a shaved head. I say to my friend "omg that's so queer!" To this fuzzy thing you draw on with markers. This girl my age says to me "you shouldn't say that its so offensive" I just looked at her and walked away lol. I grew up being called queer by mother who meant weird not gay. So yeah I use them sometimes but I am more conscious what I say and who I say it to.
I tried to use 'that's so gay'. I am not homophobic. It was the weirdest thing I ever did. I was trying to use the term in a positive way but it came across as extremely awkward for me. I don't think I'll be using it anytime soon or in the future unless I can make it come out as something that sounds positive. I guess the best way to use a word is in its literal context or it doesn't make sense. It just makes me confused :S
I have no problem calling myself a fag or any of several others as deemed appropriate. They just don't feel like slurs to me, even if someone else thinks they are. I'm also a geek, which some use in a derogatory manner.
I agree as well.. I think if you use it in the right context and not in a negative its not that bad. my best friend calls ALL her friends faggots. but she means it in a loving way :)
I totally agree with you. As long as you are using the words in a positive way, I think it's fine. Being oversensitive doesn't make people more tolerant, it just annoys them.
ok... i know this is random... but either im trippin or i seen a puppy in the background....

I like 'ponce'. Like "Don't be such a ponce" I dunno. I like these slurs when they're used positively , it doesn't really offend me either

Perhaps people are confused and that manifests through the confusing terminology that they use.
