As to the video, in my opinion, he is at a medicore level. He is far from great, but also far from bad.Im saying this with over 2 decades of playing. In that light, In my opinion a student would be served much better by learning from the top tier players. You cant compare someone at his level to say someone like Andy James, Guthrie, Vai, Gilbert, Buckethead, Bumblefoot, MABatio, Bettencourt, Kotzenect. I understand liking someones band, but that doesnt mean, they are the best choise as teacher
I agree if your going to really rip into someone though, you should post a video of yourself playing, or at the very least have videos on your page, demonstrating your ability. Most of the people critiqueing others playing on Youtube, have very very low level skill, and have no right to judge anyone else. ITs a fact that you cant judge someone else, unless your at a high enough skill level to make a legitimat critique. This is the differance between an educated opinion and a noneducated one
While I agree its not good form to rip on other players, its also true that if you put your self on a pedistal to teach others, your opening yourself to critique. Its also a huge responsiblity teaching others, and its my personal opinion, that if your not at a certain level of accomplishment, you shouldnt be taking on the role of a teacher. Teachers influence. And unless you can influence someone in a positive way, you shouldnt 'play' teacher.

I'm a big A7X fan, but even I'll admit that he's really sloppy in this video. But then again it's more than 5 years old, obviously he practiced to be more clean in the present. I'm talking from experience. I went to see them last friday (12/16 in san jose) and ALL the solos he played with sweep picking (Afterlife, Buried Alive, Almost Easy) were VERY CLEAN indeed. Was an Amazing show.

This guy should Not be giving sweep Picking Lessons. His notes are not all the same volume when he plays fast., nor is it clean. If you cannot sweep clean and slow then you cannot sweep clean and fast.
I think the way i've learned to sweep for the buried alive solo is wrong because the tabs say to play 10-7-10 on the 5th string, syn only plays two notes on the 5th string in this 'how to sweep pick video :/

He is the most overrated guitarist I've seen. And half of my friends and I can do much cleaner sweeps and more tasteful solos, listen to jazz or technical death metal, those 2 genres can kick this fuckers ass anyday.
@Techdeath96 As far as I know, Synyster never claimed to be better than any other pro guitarist. This man is living his passion, and helping others on the way to follow this path. If you and your friends are skilled, it would be a generous gesture to upload an educational video like this one. Even if a bunch of assholes commented on how much you suck, you would be helping hundreds (thousands?) to get better at guitar. If you had but a shred of valuable content, I would try to learn from you.

@happyslap10 Ha, thanks :) Yeah, I've been playing the guitar for about 2 years now... I love guys like Syn and Zacky because they have such great technique. I use the arpeggios in the Beast and the Harlot chorus as my sweep picking exercise... I think its a very good thing to learn, and it sounds sooo melodic... and pretty unique as well, i mean, who else could have thought to sweep pick the whole chorus section instead of just chugging out powerchords? Haha.

Syn is the reason I started playing in the first place, if u don't like syn gates then done watch his videos, sure there are better players who can play faster, but speed isn't everything. Syn plays with feeling that is so difficult to put on six strings. Also, everybody needs to shut up about how much better somebody else is and just appreciate the musicianship, there's a reason why syn has millions of fans!
I don't think ths is supposed to be a "lesson" as such. It seems more like someone was interviewing him and just asked him to do something cool. You can hear lots of people in the backgtround and see camera flashes going off. I don't think this was meant to really teach anyone anything.

This guy should Not be giving sweep Picking Lessons. His notes are not all the same volume when he plays fast., nor is it clean. If you cannot sweep clean and slow then you cannot sweep clean and fast.

I think the way i've learned to sweep for the buried alive solo is wrong because the tabs say to play 10-7-10 on the 5th string, syn only plays two notes on the 5th string in this 'how to sweep pick video :/

If you and your friends are skilled, it would be a generous gesture to upload an educational video like this one. @happyslap10 Ha, thanks :) Yeah, I've been playing the guitar for about 2 years now... I love guys like Syn and Zacky because they have such great technique. I use the arpeggios in the Beast and the Harlot chorus as my sweep picking exercise... I think its a very good thing to learn, and it sounds sooo melodic... and pretty unique as well, i mean, who else could have thought to sweep pick the whole chorus section instead of just chugging out powerchords? Haha.

A7X is something I won't touch with a 10-foot pole XD My guitar is a Squier Strat lol its a good guitar considering my skill level. I'm saving up for either an Ibanez or an ESP... there are two guitars I'm pretty torn between at the moment. How about you?

Syn is the reason I started playing in the first place, if u don't like syn gates then done watch his videos, sure there are better players who can play faster, but speed isn't everything. Syn plays with feeling that is so difficult to put on six strings. Also, everybody needs to shut up about how much better somebody else is and just appreciate the musicianship, there's a reason why syn has millions of fans!
