I don't think there is another writer that gives so much to a story. Great story line considering one drow is bound to go good and escape from the homeland.
i could talk about the same subject for hours but i cant figure out how to put videos up on youtube and im trying to get all the stuff i need to play dungeons and dragons 4e so i can make a drow character and a dragonborn. it kinda helps that my uncle played dnd alot so he gave me basicly the 1e dnd booklets nstuff

Hey, I really dont undestand this, wtf is the forgotten realms? i mean, many stories in one universe? i totally dont understand and im thinking to read the legend of rizzt, is it good?
Forgotten Realms is the Campaign Setting that the stories take place in. Its a catch all term for the world, and different planes of existence that these stories take place in. It consists of Faerun, Maztica, Zakhara, Kara-Tur, Anchorome, Katashaka , Osse and Returned Abier on the planet Abier-Toril. Abier-Toril used to be one planet, but there was a war and the over god split it into two planets, Abier, and Toril.
great books theres 13 books in all i beleive and other books about the drow by other authers im on book six salvatore can relly put in the shoes of drizzt
Oh man.. have I been pronouncing Drow wrong all this time? I thought it was like 'now'. To hear someone else say otherwise sounds so very foreign to me, I don't think I could ever bring myself to pronounce it correctly. Or Do'Urden for that matter. I always say it like 'dough' urden.
Wait a moment, is that InuYasha's necklace!? Oh my Gandalf!
No, no. You are correct. Drow is pronounced similar to "now". Many suppliments such as video games, and interviews with the creators of the game, the authors of the novels, and the authors of the Game suppliments all say Drow pronounced rhyming with "now". Saying it rhyming with "know" is incorrect.
According to Gygax and Arneson, D&D wasn't inspired by Lord of the Rings at all, or at least very little. It was based on Tabletop Miniature wargames likes Chainmail and Warhammer
@ChasenBrandstone actually wen writing the book he was inspired by lord of the rings... so if you would like to know actually about this book series please read the book series. this video was okay btw.. this comment was on behalf of chasen's comment.
I have read the entire series. I have read each book written in the Drizzt series, as well as every novel in the Forgotten Realms and Greyhawk campaign settings, and I'm not saying that Mr. Salvatore didn't have any inspiration from The Lord of the Rings. What I am saying is incorrect was that Dungeons and Dragons wasn't based on it. Read my comment more carefully before you reply please. :)
i think you pronounce Drizzt..... Drizz-it i say it like that because it sounds more cooler?? that way but either way you can say it anyway you want:)
I feel the way I say it sounds more 'weighted down' more oppressed and thus reflects that nature in the dark elves.
Now I know I said Drizzt's name wrong... I thought the 't' was silent when I first started reading the series but after finishing the Dark Elf Trilogy I feel it is said sounding more like 'Drizst' but the only way I am gonna know for sure is if I talk to R.A. Salvatore himself since there is no pronunciation guide in any of the books I've read so far.
I have Bob Salvatore and he pronounces it "Drits" - that isn't a typo D R I T S; like to rhyme with bits, kits or pits.
"Drow" is pronounced to rhyme with how, now or cow.
So, there ya go. Anything else? I made a Drizzt quiz if you think you're knowledged enough to take it - though, if you're not beyond Passage to Dawn, then some of the questions could spoil some things for you. Don't want that!
@SybilSilverPhoenix Actually, if you read his forwards and comments throughout the books, it is pronounced Dri the I being a short vowel as in "it" zzt as in zzzzz with a t on the end. No I after t and the t is not silent. I read them all in 2006, but I remember it well. In fact, when he first approaches a human, the human mispronounces his name saying, "It's a Drizzit!"
@dungeonfighter999 You are right. If it was the way she says it, then it would be spelled DrowE. It is Drow as in "ow". Pronouncing it Drowe sounds not scary, but dumb. But, I do understand why she mispronounces these words, after all, it took me awhile to say Menzobarranzan (Think I spelled it wrong, oh well, it's been a while.)
I haven't read those books in years. Brings back some great memories to hear them mentioned again. Think I still have a few of them in my basement, along with some of my old Dragonlance books. lol
My brother got me into D&D when I was like 4 and he'd read most of the Dragonlance series, all the Legend of Drizzt, and the Cleric Quintet. He claims the Cleric series is the best... I'll have to read 'em but so far I am loving the Legend of Drizzt.
I really enjoy the connection that I get to the characters while reading these books. I just want to see Drizzt find his bit of peace and happiness in the world =)
So far the second book Exile is my favorite. The whole struggle that Drizzt has over whether to be Drizzt Do'Urden or give in to the Wild Hunter is intense in its own way and the lengths that House Do'Urden under goes in the hunt for the blasphemous Secondboy is painful and ironic. Real page turning stuff! I am swiftly reading toward the end! =D
When Drizzt was in the Underdark he aquired his Barbarian fighter class. The "Hunter" is his Barbarian Rage. ...For the D&D geeks out there. =) Love you all!
