If you think that white people can't have soul, then there are 2 people who prove you wrong. Joss Stone and Jay Kay (Jamiroquai). They leak soul! haha.
If you think this girl has no soul because she isn't black go watch this girl sing "Son of a preacher man" While it may have originally been sung by yet another white singer she shows exactly what a "White" girl with an extremely soulful voice can do.
what do you think? Could it be Joss a new actual Queen of Soul? It seems to me that the Free Me performance is similar to the original Aretha Franklin's Respect
Never hurts to have the SOUL GENERALS with you--those horn players were James Browns juice for the last touring phase of his life and they are the bomb!!
I trust you're aware of the popularity of soul (known as northern soul for an obvious reason) has been popular in UK 'white' culture since the beginning. As a genre it owes alot to this fact, it's popularity in the UK wouldn't exist to this level had it not been adopted from such an early age. At the time black and white culture was a huge divide. The rise of northern bridged this gap, if you would rather still live in a world where black is black and white is white, that's up to you.
She has the funk! she stole it off of bootsy collins cos he was milking it.
and whats it matter what colour she is????
"i dont like her cos shes white?" you w**ker! just listen to youself. go out and have a dance sometime instead of cerebralising your music too much, talking of soulessness: DJWANGER "she aint black enough to do soul music" is about as soulless a comment as you could make! (not to mention slightly racist oh sorry i mentioned it), its not the best song in the world its a tribute.
Enough said ! And i would recommend to these kind of people - Go check Average White Band and then tell me if there's no funk...no groove :) They are from Scotland btw. White people can play and sing black styles ! The opposite is rare :)

I think Djdjango1 has a point actually. I'm tired of this endless so-called "blue-eyed soul"....especially as so much of it is fake, soullless kareoke. So tired of Black culture being ripped off in this way, I'd have more respect for Stone if she sung The Wurzels back catalog, at least it would be authentic! The previous post has a truth to it, albeit an inconvenient one.
Both truthhurts2much1 & DJDJANGO1 posted exactly the same comments here on another JS video. Their lack of imagination prooves how great " soul music experts" they are. The so called "Black Culture" is being ripped off by the massive amout of "Lack(of) Culture" from people like you. I tell again: Nothing but silly RACIST comments coming from "The Great Black Hole" in your heads.
Under the appearance of a soul music Expert is nothing but one silly RACIST comment here youve made. The next step is to claim what soulful Rihanna is because shes a black singer.

Sorry but this girl only impresses if you dont really know your Soul music. Saw her live in support of Erykah Badu and it was clear she was trying desperately to imitate US Black vocal style. Very unconvincing, especially as she dont talk the same way. Its the same old "Great White Hope" myth again, soon as someone seems to have a Black-sounding set of pipes; they get over-hyped.
Just another tired, overindulged wannabe. Her only skill is soulless impersonation. Kareoke for the masses.
Well DJDJANGO1 that is your opinion, however you may appoint yourself as an arbitrator of soul music people know what they like and why they like Joss and her band.
Cannot agree with ogilmeister and buckleysavestheday enough, so so bloody good. Joss is just so excellent (and lovely). The band and backing singers, very very tight, and that other track she did with hot sax work, knockout. One of our best!!

She is so damn fine. She's like Alicia Keys. She just gets funkier and hotter every year. I love it.

i am a big fan of "blue eyed soul" but the only part of this song I am feeling is the drummer.

i'm sorry, joss stone can't be a soul singer because she is white but singers like chris brown can be called RnB artists?
i'm black and i think joss stone is one of the few truly young soul singers in the business today
she is absolutely incredible and should be given more attention and credit

and recently, we(the us) shouldn't be talking since the uk has joss stone, adele, duffy, and amy winehouse
