There's a horse racing in Australia at the moment, a 4yo mare, who is a great-grand daughter of Nijinsky. She is currently the worlds highest rating sprinter and its amazingly eerie the similarities in the which the two race. The controlled amble when all others in the race and at full stretch and the way in which they can both quicken over two or three strides. She is 10 wins from 10 starts and all on metro tracks. Compare yourself
In the modern day Nijinsky woud not have been entered in the Champion Stakes and woud have been campaigned like Sea the Stars. With a better ride from Lester ( how often can one say that ? ) he would have won the Arc and retired for the year or forever on 12 wins from 12.
Why do you call it "the Dancing Brave fan club" ? I just think that Dancing Brave has been underrated in having been ranked alongside the rather one-paced Dubai Millennium. You've got to respect both DB's stamina AND his amazing turn-of-foot. Both Nijinsky and DB were unusually versatile - which is surely already a special sign. It's possible to be a fan and to remain objective. From an objective point of view also Dancing Brave was one of the greats.
I'm not disputing the greatness of Nijinsky, especially considering how versatile he was. This performance, however, was no more impressive than Dancing Brave's Guineas. Both horses won with consummate ease, without the jockey ever having to raise the whip.
As for being a sire, Nijinsky has been great. Dancing Brave produced a few classic winners. But he never recovered from the BC and he should never have been sent to Japan. That's another thing that rankles. All hail to Nijinsky though.
He won Group One races over 8f - 14 f ? That really is exceptional. He was without question one of the best of all time. The arguments will rage on about which flat horse was the best. How can you even begin to decide that ?
