  • Edgar Allen Poe?

  • @euromerc Oh wow... This shed alot of light on the Corvidae family for me. In Australia we'd/I'd call the big one Crow, so I guessed the littler version was a Raven (not local where I live in Sydney). This was educational for me. Thank you. (I never got round to checking the whole raven crow thing, I happen to stubble upon it now heh heh!)

  • is this a carrion crow?

  • The crow is bowing his head submissively as if to say "yes master, you rang??"

  • It would appear that one is bigger than the other then!

  • Raven: Bow.

    Crow: Yes my lord.

  • i trained my pet crow to fly onto tombstones when a few people are looking at it XD

  • @limesandstupidity LOOOOL then your pet crow is awesome! It would have been creepy to see that, haha!

  • I meight get a pet raven sometime in the future. I'm currently gathering info about them.

  • edgar named after poe ?

  • OH so that's the difference...I've always wondered what the difference between the two birds were O.o

  • where i live the crows are alot bigger than the ravens theres crows as big as pheasant while the raven is the same size as it shows they must be someother species though cause there features are a tad bit different

  • Cool video. I've been wondering about the difference between these two birds lately and this size comparison helps a lot. Thanks!

  • in perth i see way bigger crows

  • it looks like the crow is bowing down the to raven

  • wait so those are ravens in my neighborhood not crows?!

  • Isnt this how they made the hobbits look so small in the movies......wait what?!

  • Personality wise. What's the difference and does Edgar act more like a Crow or Raven?

  • I've seen a lot of corvids, like jackdaws and crows (no ravens where I live), do what your raven does at 0:13.

What's the meaning of this beak-"rubbing" (for lack of a better term)?

  • @PrivateSchemers1 - Bill wiping is usually a sign of annoyance :)

  • @euromerc Could it be that the crow kept looking down because he/she understood that the raven was feeling annoyed, and did so to avoid any troubles?

  • Ok so which bird is smarter and a better pet Raven or Crow?

  • @Giggidygiggidy12 - I personally think ravens are smarter.

  • @Giggidygiggidy12 ravens have the biggest brain to body size rtio of any bird in the world so technicaly theyre thesmartest bird in the world

  • lol, i always thought crows were bigger till now >.>

  • @twin1010101010 No, but I do have another raven named Murkrow :)

  • Haha, the raven`s name would be based off edgar allen poe

  • I've always wondered, and now I finally know just how much bigger ravens are! Thanks! :-)

  • Edgar: That's right, bitch. Keep lookin down!

  • pls someone can tell me wats the difference betwen a crow and a raven?

  • I remember nearly jumping out of my skin when I saw a raven standing really close tome. Not because they're scary, but because from a distance I thought he was a crow, but the next thing I knew he was about three feet away and I was like "Holy crap! That bird is huge!"

  • Need more of these to deal with those disgusting magpies.

  • @anothguy awww, Magpies are cute and bring joy to my heart.

  • @dreams4nightmares And nasty infection to my ear.

While Nightingale is a delight for it.

  • @anothguy lol

  • from raven quest!!!!!!

  • Tok and kaa!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Corvids are among the smartest animals on Earth. Their reasoning rivals that of non-human primates and aquatic mammals. They can use tools, solve problems, wage war and remember complex processes. Truly fascinating.

  • Ravens tend to eat crows babies- so when a raven is around crows are guarding their nests.

  • While looking down humbly, crow says to raven, "Please, please, please don't kill me."

  • ほらかわいい。

  • You named your raven Edward? Thats brilliant :P

  • @TheVooDooTaco Ugh i meant edgar

  • I didn't realize that ravens were so much bigger 0.o

  • The crow is like "wtf was he looking at?" "I still can't find it"

  • @DJSupraKidd ~ LOL!

  • TONS of ravens in alaska and they get into EVERYTHING.

  • Would be awesome to have a raven ^_^

  • I though ravens and crows were from the same specie.

  • @FlyingAlchemist

    Well...

    They're both birds?

  • @dessieblazer1990 I meant, Crows, ravens. Same thing.

  • @FlyingAlchemist i think.... ravens are male crows..... i dont know...

  • @Rottweillergirl247 Hummm...

  • @Rottweillergirl247 wtf are you talking about? Raven and Crows are two different species who are relatives in the corvid family, along with Jays and Magpies. Your on the internet, learn to use it and look up facts before posting ridiculously false information.

  • @RottenPeri Fuckin god. i said i wasnt sure ass wipe.

  • Haha you named the raven edgar? That's awesome

  • ravens are cooler

  • No rooks? :(

  • How did you get your hands on a raven ?

  • @TheRaevin ~ Corvid Ranch in Alabama.

  • @euromerc

That's amazing, thank you! Shame we can't import them from the US (and i wouldn't want to traumatize the bird). We can only keep them if they are bred in captivity but it's so hard to find a breeder in Europe. Do they require alot of attention ?

  • @TheCJtoon Looks like he was bowing xD

  • Crow, raven and grackles are all cousins....

  • In BC crows are usually bigger than Ravens which makes it really hard to tell them apart.. Gotta look at their beak and "neckfeathers" up close.

Ravens have wedge-shaped tails and crows have fan-shaped tails. When you see the bird flying overhead, you can often get a good look at the shape of the tail.

  • at my camp i saw a reaven stealing a whole bag of popcorn from my friend backpack

  • Ravens soar when the fly and crows just flap their wings i've noticed. There are ravens and crows around where I live but I never see them at the same time which is interesting. When i hear ravens outside my window there isn't a single crow around, and normally nothing but crows otherwise.I've often wondered what would happen if they encountered each other

  • @bhindthosegreeneyes ~ Crows and ravens don't normally hang around together.

  • Edgar: I Shall call him Mini Me.

  • That is a very small crow.

  • Nice video, it clearly teaches us the differences. Keep up the great posts!

  • • They r both territorial, in great numbers they don't really get along. Crow is known to steal eggs and injure young &attack big raven in cheer numbers &crow’s r cleverer. Poor raven stands no chance with crows pesting around ravens nest. As noticed in ata national park near me Richmond Park, England. I seen around 15 crows bullying 1 raven for nearly 3 hours raven couldn't even rest. But when the area is dominated by ravens that crows can't bother, raven gives help to smaller birds from crows

  • Comment removed

  • Where we live, crows and ravens are the same size, ravens have slightly more curved beaks, and grey at the base of their feathers, but it's impossible to tell them apart at a distance. They're both more closely related to eachother than they are to northern hemisphere ravens and crows anyhow.

  • @Rhinogradentian ~ Where do you live?

  • @euromerc Australia.

  • @euromerc Rhino is likely referring to Corvus coronoides.

  • @Rhinogradentian Australia.

  • @Rhinogradentian

Ravens have MUCH LARGER wingspans than crows.

  • I love the fact that they are totally at ease with eachother...but did I notice right, that you keep the raven on a chain??

  • @gyqz ~ No, Edgar is not on a chain. He has an aluminum id bracelet on his leg.

  • Spooky and marvelous how they stand just opposite each other and do .....nothing.. but giving nice stances.

  • Bleh! I used to think ravens were prettier because I would only see dirty crows, but now I see that crows are prettier xD

  • @TheOn3LeftBehind ~ Nacho Doritos.

  • Crow: soo

    Raven:sup

Crow: how much were you paid fr this?

    Raven:25

Crow: bullshit, I got paid 15

    Raven:SOO

Crow: now, I can be a leader! >::)

    Raven: Shut up.

    Crow yes master ::|

  • lol I love how the crow is soo puzzled (after the raven cleaned its beak)

  • What defines "pet"? I've had lots of animals in my lifetime, but I've never caged a one. I know keeping wild animals is illegal, but what does the law say about animals that just like to hang out with you? I recently read a story about how crows talk to each other, n can describe a person in detail to other crows that have never seen the person. I'd love to have a crow, but can't. Is there anything wrong with feeding them and get'n them to like you? They wouldn't really be pets then would they?

  • @wickedseraphim4 ~ I think feeding them is great, and they will get to know you.

  • @euromerc what is their favorite food?

  • i dont know why i always thought a raven would be the same size as a crow maybe a little bigger

never thought they were twice as big

  • This bitch at my school was saying that a raven landed on her head and I showed her how much bigger ravens were than crows with my hands and she looked like she shit in her pants.

  • @DreamCatcher641 ~ LOL!

  • Raven: "Hey there short-stuff"

    Crow: "O.O.....Wha-What the hell?"

  • @Demingosan LOL

  • ok, were i live in texas, i see some "crows" or atleast thts what i think they are? tthe males dont look like these crows in this video. they has long black tales n the females are ugly n brown, n they like city crows or soe crap, dont like em, thye look ugly! butthese crows here in vid dont look like any like the crows have here.

  • Raven: Bow

    Crow: Yes my lord

  • @iamjason ! ~ LOL!

  • @euromerc WTF? that's HYBRID!?!?! ravens and crows can MATE!??!

IS HE FERTILE!?!?! if he is than..... crows and ravens are THE SAME SPECIES!

  • @bbphnix ~ Edgar is a mix of African Pied-Crow/Brown-necked raven :)

  • @iamjason Its "YES MAI LORDO"

  • The crow died of humiliation.

  • Is the crow much smaller then the raven?

  • @359lillian ~ Yes, evidenced by the video :)

  • @euromerc Thanks. :)

  • why does the crow bow his head? size? paying homage?

  • @bloopnation ~ submission.

  • @euromerc oh yeah! I forgot about that emotion. Thanks!

  • Holy cow! i had no idea

  • artic ravens sit on the street lites in the cold and warm their butts all nite. When I climbed Mt. Sultana we left supplies at 7,500 ft. when we returned for them 2 days later artic ravens had tore into the tent then into all the packaged freeze dryed food and eaten it. They even did a job on a jar of peanut butter but could not chew through the tough plastic jar

  • You should see the artic ravens up here, they are as big as chickens and very smart. Artic ravens are protected though. They are very important in native mythology. An Artic Raven is the wise uncle

  • they are talking to each other on how to get out

  • I want to buy a mansion, a crow, a robe, a pipe, and some slippers and slick back my hair and act like a bigshot

  • Edgar as in Allan Poe right?

  • Just curious, like, do they have to have special food? Or like, raw meat, since crows and ravens usually hunt things like mice? I think? Anyways, they're cool! As soon as I saw the raven was named Edgar, I thought of Edagr Allen Poe. XD He's got a raven on the cover of one of his books.

  • Ravens are the shit :) theres a rumour in my city about this vigilanty guy calling himself the raven. If this is true I swear I'll do my best to get a pic or somthing of him I wonder my city alot I'm bound to see something out of the ordinary

  • When I was little, I didn't knew the Spanish word for crow, so I called them carbon because I thought carbon was the Spanish. Years later, I found out that the Spanish for crow and raven for cuervo. The name I gave for crow in Spanish carbon goes good for crow and raven because they are as black as coal. Carbon is Spanish for coal.

  • @2face15 ~ that's awesome!

  • @2face15

i don't know for portuguese either, crow or raven in portuguese is "corvo" it has no different translation.

  • were did you get them from cause i want one.

  • @xrandombobx ~ It is not legal to have a corvid as a pet in the United States as they are migratory birds and protected. You can have one as a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, or are working under a licensed rehabber. I don't consider them pets; they are rescues :)

You can obtain a hybrid Raven from Corvid Ranch (Google them), in Alabama.

  • @euromerc why when farmers for so called 'protecting their crop' can destroy them at will. and endangered animals like bears and wolves. and i believe its even legal to keep tigers in the US. wildlife laws here are disjointed and barmy

  • @andy765gtr It's due to the Migratory Bird Treaty that was signed way back at the turn of the 20th century, and that's something other counties are a party to as well. I think Brits and Canadians would get into the same trouble for trying to keep a bird native to their lands as a pet.

It does suck that the treaty bans keeping them as pets, since animals tend to live longer and healthier lives as pets due to access to medical care, reliable (and good) food, human companions and the like.

  • @euromerc I think you just said that corvids are illegal to own in the US, when what you meant to say was that NATIVE corvids are illegal. Of course, the law is wrong.

  • How did you get an american crow in the house? O.o do you work with crows or something? That's really quite strange...

  • Hey! Wow, this video was very informative but left me confused. I live in Japan from time to time, and the crows their are huge. But looking at your raven in this video, it resembles the Japanese crow in every way. What do you know about this? If you want to see a video of them, just search Youtube crow in Japan, and a video demonstrates the cleverness of a crow as it drops nuts in the street to get cars to break them open and then takes the nuts when the coast is clear.

  • @Synconntez ~ The crows that thy have in Japan are actually ravens :)

  • @euromerc Thanks for the reply :) It came a bit late, so I researched the matter, and the consensus according to genetic screening is that these are so called, "Jungle Crows," particular to Asia, known to be quite large with long bills causing them to look "Raven-like." I support the opinion that these are in fact more a species of Ravens than Crows, because with such lenient standards for classification, barely any difference would exist oO

  • Edgar! What a perfect name!xD

  • Thank you for introducing me to the word 'Corvid'. Nice birds, btw.

  • i like the raven >:) it is scary and clever

  • They look cute xD

  • damn i can imagine this thing rapping on my chamber door....

  • 0:30 crow's got his/her head down as if it's bowing to his superior, the Raven :P

  • @nddlj i think hes more like, wtf did he just do with his beak? am i supposed to do that now? f that!

  • Forgot about the hooded crows, my bad. :x

  • I've never seen any fully black crows here in Sweden. Only Ravens(Really freaking big ones.), jackdaws and magpies.

I love all of the Corvid species, they're so beautiful. :)

  • do i hear opera music?

  • The crow in this video is actually a grackle. check out cornell's ornithological website to learn more about birds.

  • The crow is actually a grackle, not a crow.

  • @jules17330 ~ It's an American Crow. I'm somewhat of a corvid specialist.

  • @jules17330 grackles have yellow eyes.

  • The crows we have around where I live in the PNW are way bigger than the crow in this video. The are actually larger than that raven too. A smallish crow here would be about the size of that raven.

  • @1tb4life ~ Wow! I need pictures of that!

  • @1tb4life do you mean pacific northwest? because if you do priest lake idaho at the golf course i saw a raven that dwarfed them both that guy must have been 15 years old to get that big

  • they are talking to each other on how to kill the camara guy

  • @gmz9592 ~ they better not! I feed them :)

  • @euromerc i thought the bigger one was a crow so i guess my baby crow that im taking care of is going to be small

  • Then the crows where I live must be on steroids, they are actually larger than ravens! I know that they are not ravens and are in fact American crows but their size is massive, almost as big as my cat.

  • Ravens are so big!! I'm used to just seeing grackles(sp?), you don't really see crows or ravens, but I was in Tokyo last year, and you saw ravens EVERYWHERE, in the city and in the shrines/parks, just like pigeons.

  • Ravens are like "pimp my crow". xD

  • beautyful creations :D

  • crow rocks.

Crow's are awesome, they are the friendliest birds.

  • so pretty.. both of them..

  • I just saw a bird and thought it was a crow. I thought, "Am I seeing things, or does that bird have a blueish-purple glow?" Something huge flew across the window about 30 min. prior to seeing it, I thought I was hallucinating but I've been hearing birds all morning sound like they're talking. I'm afraid of all animals, but starting to appreciate they're presence for their conscientious signs. Thnx

  • @Isignedup4this ~ They do have a blueish-purple iridescence to their feathers. Crows and Ravens are very intelligent.

  • What's wrong with the crow is it scare or something because is looking down.

  • @sparten11742 ~ the crow is being submissive to the raven.

  • I can't believe that such beautiful birds where treated (and still) as evil beings. They're so magnificent.

  • I think ravens and crows always should have their freedom and never in a cage unless they have been hurt and they need time to heel, they are such awesome birds and quit intelligent to

  • @lilnikki347 ~ All of mine have handicaps, except Edgar who came from a breeder. They are allowed to fly all over my 2-story house, and have spacious aviaries.

  • i am watching this with my pet carrion crow i rescued when fell from tree when young, hes 7 months old now and lives with me and i love him to bits his name is gilbert!!

  • @IainK76 ~ Awww. I wanna see a pic!

  • Thank you for showing us their size difference. I was always confused about the difference between them.

  • @Valkilmer89 ~ They said to tell you "it's nice to be appreciated".

  • a beleif is if a raven follow's you one you love will soon die

  • @skullythebloger another is if one follows you, you will have upcoming love XD

  • Amazing! Now I know for sure that I've had a raven following me for a few years. I always thought it was a big crow, but doing some research I've learned that it's ravens that have the 'breeches' and are solitary. There's usually one outside around my house or work (same city) or even other cities, and it always 'chuckles' or 'knocks' and that's how I know it's around. Very distinct! I'm sure it's the same one, if not then I'm a raven magnet! and I live in urban Los Angeles too!

  • @nevroth ~ I think it's good luck to have a raven follow you :)

  • @euromerc arent ravens an oden of death >_>

  • @euromerc - to some people the raven is an omen of forboding evil; but at the Tower of London, they're protected because they bring good luck.

  • And to some people they're a football mascot.

  • It looks like the crow is surrendering her/himself over to the Raven with her/his head bowed down like that.

  • @BasicMobile ~ He is in submission.
