@euromerc Oh wow... This shed alot of light on the Corvidae family for me. In Australia we'd/I'd call the big one Crow, so I guessed the littler version was a Raven (not local where I live in Sydney). This was educational for me. Thank you. (I never got round to checking the whole raven crow thing, I happen to stubble upon it now heh heh!)
where i live the crows are alot bigger than the ravens theres crows as big as pheasant while the raven is the same size as it shows they must be someother species though cause there features are a tad bit different
I remember nearly jumping out of my skin when I saw a raven standing really close tome. Not because they're scary, but because from a distance I thought he was a crow, but the next thing I knew he was about three feet away and I was like "Holy crap! That bird is huge!"
Corvids are among the smartest animals on Earth. Their reasoning rivals that of non-human primates and aquatic mammals. They can use tools, solve problems, wage war and remember complex processes. Truly fascinating.
@Rottweillergirl247 wtf are you talking about? Raven and Crows are two different species who are relatives in the corvid family, along with Jays and Magpies. Your on the internet, learn to use it and look up facts before posting ridiculously false information.
That's amazing, thank you! Shame we can't import them from the US (and i wouldn't want to traumatize the bird). We can only keep them if they are bred in captivity but it's so hard to find a breeder in Europe. Do they require alot of attention ?
In BC crows are usually bigger than Ravens which makes it really hard to tell them apart.. Gotta look at their beak and "neckfeathers" up close.

• They r both territorial, in great numbers they don't really get along. Crow is known to steal eggs and injure young &attack big raven in cheer numbers &crow’s r cleverer. Poor raven stands no chance with crows pesting around ravens nest. As noticed in ata national park near me Richmond Park, England. I seen around 15 crows bullying 1 raven for nearly 3 hours raven couldn't even rest. But when the area is dominated by ravens that crows can't bother, raven gives help to smaller birds from crows
Where we live, crows and ravens are the same size, ravens have slightly more curved beaks, and grey at the base of their feathers, but it's impossible to tell them apart at a distance. They're both more closely related to eachother than they are to northern hemisphere ravens and crows anyhow.

I recently read a story about how crows talk to each other, n can describe a person in detail to other crows that have never seen the person. I'd love to have a crow, but can't. Is there anything wrong with feeding them and get'n them to like you? They wouldn't really be pets then would they?
This bitch at my school was saying that a raven landed on her head and I showed her how much bigger ravens were than crows with my hands and she looked like she shit in her pants.

@xrandombobx ~ It is not legal to have a corvid as a pet in the United States as they are migratory birds and protected. You can have one as a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, or are working under a licensed rehabber. I don't consider them pets; they are rescues :)
You can obtain a hybrid Raven from Corvid Ranch (Google them), in Alabama.
@euromerc why when farmers for so called 'protecting their crop' can destroy them at will. and endangered animals like bears and wolves. and i believe its even legal to keep tigers in the US. wildlife laws here are disjointed and barmy
@andy765gtr It's due to the Migratory Bird Treaty that was signed way back at the turn of the 20th century, and that's something other counties are a party to as well. I think Brits and Canadians would get into the same trouble for trying to keep a bird native to their lands as a pet.
It does suck that the treaty bans keeping them as pets, since animals tend to live longer and healthier lives as pets due to access to medical care, reliable (and good) food, human companions and the like.
@euromerc I think you just said that corvids are illegal to own in the US, when what you meant to say was that NATIVE corvids are illegal. Of course, the law is wrong.

@euromerc Thanks for the reply :) It came a bit late, so I researched the matter, and the consensus according to genetic screening is that these are so called, "Jungle Crows," particular to Asia, known to be quite large with long bills causing them to look "Raven-like." I support the opinion that these are in fact more a species of Ravens than Crows, because with such lenient standards for classification, barely any difference would exist oO
The crows we have around where I live in the PNW are way bigger than the crow in this video. The are actually larger than that raven too. A smallish crow here would be about the size of that raven.
@1tb4life do you mean pacific northwest? because if you do priest lake idaho at the golf course i saw a raven that dwarfed them both that guy must have been 15 years old to get that big
Then the crows where I live must be on steroids, they are actually larger than ravens! I know that they are not ravens and are in fact American crows but their size is massive, almost as big as my cat.
Ravens are so big!! I'm used to just seeing grackles(sp?), you don't really see crows or ravens, but I was in Tokyo last year, and you saw ravens EVERYWHERE, in the city and in the shrines/parks, just like pigeons.
I just saw a bird and thought it was a crow. I thought, "Am I seeing things, or does that bird have a blueish-purple glow?" Something huge flew across the window about 30 min. prior to seeing it, I thought I was hallucinating but I've been hearing birds all morning sound like they're talking. I'm afraid of all animals, but starting to appreciate they're presence for their conscientious signs. Thnx
I think ravens and crows always should have their freedom and never in a cage unless they have been hurt and they need time to heel, they are such awesome birds and quit intelligent to
@lilnikki347 ~ All of mine have handicaps, except Edgar who came from a breeder. They are allowed to fly all over my 2-story house, and have spacious aviaries.
i am watching this with my pet carrion crow i rescued when fell from tree when young, hes 7 months old now and lives with me and i love him to bits his name is gilbert!!
Amazing! Now I know for sure that I've had a raven following me for a few years. I always thought it was a big crow, but doing some research I've learned that it's ravens that have the 'breeches' and are solitary. There's usually one outside around my house or work (same city) or even other cities, and it always 'chuckles' or 'knocks' and that's how I know it's around. Very distinct! I'm sure it's the same one, if not then I'm a raven magnet! and I live in urban Los Angeles too!

Thnx

@Isignedup4this ~ They do have a blueish-purple iridescence to their feathers. Crows and Ravens are very intelligent.

What's wrong with the crow is it scare or something because is looking down.
sparten11742 1 year ago
@sparten11742 ~ the crow is being submissive to the raven.

I can't believe that such beautiful birds where treated (and still) as evil beings. They're so magnificent.

@euromerc arent ravens an oden of death >_>
skullythebloger 1 year ago
@euromerc - to some people the raven is an omen of forboding evil; but at the Tower of London, they're protected because they bring good luck.

And to some people they're a football mascot.

It looks like the crow is surrendering her/himself over to the Raven with her/his head bowed down like that.
