  • now this wot ya call 'real car racing" woo hoo

  • The best racing we ever had. More makes, more variety.

  • WOW back then the cars & british really weren't on point!!

  • best video!

  • Don't know much about cars? Not really a motor racing fan? Then V8 Supercars is just for you!

  • @jemorrismmorris No, that's Nascar. Get it right.

  • @SvenDansk7 Yes that too! LOL

  • 2:07 looks like a racing car game crash

  • its all the V8 bogans who wanted it to be holden and ford V8 race only, myself like heaps of other people have been turned off, its so boring to watch, BRING BACK BATHURST AS IT WAS MEANT TO BE, EVERY DAY DIFFRENT TYPES OF PRODUCTION CARS SOLD HERE !!!! BORRRRRIIIINNNNGGGGGG, NICE CLIP DUDE, brings back great mems

  • @the124Lscania Clips like these are all you and I have now. Great comment.

  • Isn't it sad to think Australian Touring Car racing degenerated from the fantastic stuff seen here into the corporate two-car bullshit that is V8 Supercars.

Love the video and song combo - champagne stuff.

  • Pretty great that you have this footage, i heard that channel 7 used alot of the old tapes as landfill. Not sure how much of that is true and how much is rumor but yeah, nice montage none the less.

  • nice to see those Fairmont GTs, my neighbour currently has 15 plus of those in his yard. He restores them and sells them in Australia

  • epic stuff, that Bathurst track is legendary

  • Classic mate... Awesome footage, awesome song. I just works.

As a Kiwi, have to salute the late great Peter Brock!

  • MY FAVORITE MAP EVER ! BEST OF THE BESTS!

  • The Daytona 500 for real men!

  • It's not necessarily V8 Supercars that are the problem..., however at times it appears like Race Control are not happy unless they manipulate the crap out of the Racing Results, whether it be via safety car or penalties that are inconsistent. In addition to this, some more makes beside Holden & Ford would be awesome. I'd like to see AMG Mercedes, AUDI & BMW involved again. And perhaps Toyota and Mazda... The cars need to be all thereabouts in terms of lap speed.

  • 3:06 Whooooooosh!!! haha

  • Fuck safety cars....

  • SAD... Starting from position 4 lool

  • ttHAT GUY WAVING DOWN THE CARS AT APPROX 49 SEC LOOKS LIKE HE SHOULD BE IN A SHOE SHOP!!! OR GAY PARADE

  • nice highlights.

  • Love it. I noticed Ive commented on this video previously. 1 year ago, 2 years ago. I seem to watch this video once a year, and it always brings back so much nostalgia. Awesome video.

  • great video...

  • R.I.P JUST A GREAT DRIVER. PETER PERFECT BROCK.

  • 4:12 ... LUCKY MAN RUNNING...HE ALMOST HITTED

  • is he chekin the other drivers prostate at :13

  • Chanel 7 put this together years ago, with "Sad Songs" behind it and played it as a promo for the race coverage.

  • Why Elton John for the music???

  • hows the ford going off at 3.10!!! crazy shit straight in to th tree

  • @MrHolmesd - that was Dick Johnson in 1983 - on How NOT To Do A Pole-Position Qualifying Lap.

  • Gone are the days

  • These were good days when Minis, Datsuns, classic Holdens & Fords & the occasional Mercedes., were allowed around Bathurst.

  • @tony2560 hey dont forget the ultimate marqu.... the valiant charger.

  • @tony2560 Those little pieces of crap shouldn't be on the same track. They were not the good old days they just got in the way of the real rece cars and usualy caused a crash which put a good car out of the race. did you even watch the racing back then, obviously not.

  • ahhh those were the days aye when the hill was for the men and the race that made legends like brock

  • @ 3:45 UNDERSTEER!!!!

  • I think the channel nine camaro was only running drum brakes on the rear, I heard them talking about it during that race.

  • does anybody know the black falcon with green stripes number 29?

  • so much automotive variety, so much more fun/interesting then watching a commodore and Falcon go around the track

  • @burnwood07 Fucking oath mate. Fucking oath.

  • Forget V8 super cars, touring cars were the racing to watch.

  • @idak1 the old rs500's n the like!

  • @idak1 yeah, v8 supercars are basicly you buy a pre made car from v8 supercars then you buy a premade shell you can get 1 of 2 shapes (each brand) and then paint them up and race them around a track with tire ratios being the onlything basicly changable! calls for boring

  • 3:10 ouch

  • R.I.P BROCK 05

  • TOP vid much respect for drivers of the 70s 80s no wonder i have no interest in todays touring cars what a load of crap

i understand cars are faster and technology better but todays drivers are fucking pussies

maybe only lowndes shows balls, even he is fed up with the game

  • love the Elton John song to this clip!

  • Awsome them boys did it rough back then! Also them XC Cobra's still to this day look mean as fuck

  • i somtimes wish they can make replica shells of the xa to xc coupe

  • Thanks mate you gave me an idea

  • and thank you if you make one

  • Great Video !! Lovin 3:52, the only non v8 worth having... yummy!

  • Bathurst cars from the 70s, 80s and even the early 90s had character back than. Today they are good but they all look the same.

  • Fantastic video, It was originally aired on TV before the last race of the "Big Bangers" at Bathurst.

  • ill be there again this year....just weeks away

  • that was good, a lot of carnage over the years there. need more footage on the chargers though, they played a big part in bathurst. But ford and holden owned the market now its just same running gear but different body. crap

  • Cheex blows goats!

  • man best video on youtube regarding old time bathurst, best eras of motor sport in Australia so far. Well done mate, you ought to be commended for this video

  • Wish I could have seen any one of these races first hand, sadly I was too young and on the wrong side of the planet

  • wow, for people my age ( 30 ) this stuff is pure gold having never seen these races on tv or even being there , , thanks for uploading i enjoyed that a lot A++

  • great video... but Elton Jhon???

  • The last second of the clip...Bill Brown flipping his GT HO.....best crash ever on the mounain.

  • Group C was the best, no question. V8 Commodores, Falcons Vs RX7 Mazda's BMWs, Nissan Bluebirds. V8 Supercars are boring. They are essentially identical cars, the only difference being the badge.

  • i can understand falcons v commodores being the same cars... but mazdas, nissans and bmws?

mazdas are fkn rotarys... clearly not the same engine in that case

  • wanker

  • Loved watching Bathurst On the long weekend ! Fark those were the days!

  • Bathurst was great for a long weekend. At least spectators have an extra night to recuperate before going home.

I wish it didn't turn into a Holden v Ford V8 race like it is now. It was great when you had different makes and classes of cars.

  • 1:32 i thought he was doing a burnout until i saw the fire extinguisher

  • excellent vid:)

  • Race morning preview in 84 i saw this, you only know what you got when its gone

  • best driver. rip peter

  • why did i have to be born in the 90,s

  • I remember watching this when I was a kid. ta for the post.

  • Song could be sad coz those days are gone for ever. Back in those days the mechanics drove the cars to the track and they were exactly what you bought. Even the pit crew in the early days could only use tools sold with the car to change wheels etc like standard wheel brace and jack. These days you buy nothing like what is raced. Should go back to the old rules. You cant buy a bathurst model car anymore :(

  • What incredibly lame excuse for a human being would use this song as a soundtrack for this video??????

  • This compilation was also shown on BBC1 Grandstand in the mid 80's.

I have never forgotten watching it and being in awe as a young boy. Fantastic.

This is the first time i have seen it since. Wonderful. Thanks.

  • I love to watch any footage of old races at bathurst as they were the best! they make the V8 Supercars look very boring.the cars were standard factory made cars with all the usual faults but thats what made it so good!!!!and thats why cars are so much better today because of the feedback from bathurst and other races on brakes, suspension, engine reliability, etc, etc.Bring back the old buy a car out of the show room floor and paint a number on the door type racing!!!!!!!

  • This was shown during the pre-race telecast to the 1984 James Hardie 1000, as a tribute to the end of Group C.

  • holey shit 0:29s

  • Nice Vid, Brings back some good memories, Cheers !

  • I'll say it's good memories !! The good old days where there were more varieties of cars.

Nowdays it's just Ford & Holden, both the same power to weight, now it's all about the driver !

I havent watched Bathurst since the intro of

    V8 Supercars.

Not only that, the dumb fuckwits put a chicane on conrod straight !

How dumb & dangerous is that ??

  • where abouts on conrod straight?

  • About 3 1/4 towards the end of conrod straight you will notice the cars make a sweeping right hand turn then brake hard for the chicane.

Years ago it was just one long straight all the way down to the last left hander before the start / finish line.

  • Caltex Chase. Added following a fatal acceident near the Dunlop Bridge in 1986.

  • The chicane was put on conrod straight due to a driver being killed after getting airborne. They put it in for safety reasons.

  • @koftas - not half as dumb and dangerous as having a blind crest with wind blowing over it that had killed at least two drivers before they put The Chase in.

  • @JBofBrisbane - Mike Burgmann died in 1986 after he hit the Tyre barrier under the bridge on con rod, where the chase is located now. Denny Hulme died at the wheel after suffering a heart attack in 1992.In 1994 Don Watson died during practice when his car (Holden VP Commodore) left the circuit and hit a barrier on Conrod Straight. In 45 years of racing con rod straight claimed one life before the chase was built. When you consider the amount of horrific crashes over the years that's safe.

  • 0:29 is 1 of the gt's

  • vintage

  • Chris Heyers VW golf had a bad habit of doing that, at least his Audi never did

  • 0:29, what year was that and what driver??

    PLEASE TELL ME!!!

  • that was a gud video back when racing was racing and the cars were real

  • Nice. Thanks.

  • Awesome!! Legend piolets racing legendary old cars. New cars may handle better but nothing beats the feeling of trying to regather your head outa the parcel shelf once you've planted ya boot deep into the firewall. And these beasts came off the showroom floor to race weekends. Pretty cool :-)

  • the good old days when rubbin was racing and legends were born

  • I like the music. Australian racing at it's finest.

  • nothing beats cubic inches

  • awsome footage shame about the background music

  • lol

  • BAM!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great racing. dont get me wrong, but now racing has lost its thrill. it wont be long before the heath and safty brigade ban racing. the best racing , cars and bikes was from the 70s and 80s

  • My thoughts exactly.

Watching the cars of today is like watching paint dry.

  • Some bloody gr8 footage of the days when it used to be a proper race.

  • Great clip, although i would've liked to see the complete footage of Bill Brown barrel rolling his HO

  • great video, most of it seems to be late 70s there, no images of the mighty chargers but still awesome, whats with the guy attacking the falcon with an axe??

  • The first one is a guy attacking the front guard of a Falcon, looks like to get the damaged guard from rubbing on the tyre.

Second clip is a guy attacking the boot of a Celica because they couldn't get the boot open to put in fuel.

  • 0:29, what year was that and what driver??

    PLEASE TELL ME!!!

  • Bill Brown, 1971

  • It's not, Bill Brown was the one that rolled along the armco in 1971 cutting the car in half. It was Tony Roberts I think that went over the hill in 1970.

  • 67E rolling off on the mountain, was that the first lap crash that brought the race to a complete stop while they recovered Tony after he rolled all he way down the mountain?

  • Bloody ripper! Good old days with huge V8's

  • no unlike my daily commute!

  • id gve anything to see the hdt vc bockie commodore howl up the mounten before my eyes oh how i miss the ol xb fords and the commodores battle out i dont see many vb vc commodores with the hdt spoiler kits like our ol commodore w had such sweet sweet memories

  • now thats car racing!!!

  • Damn right! Proper cars, proper racing...gripping stuff!

  • classic piece of history the real v8 supercars the good old days rip brocky

  • I HATE YOU FOR USEING THIS SONG haha

    good video

  • This was the song channel 9 put on this compilation when it was originally aired in 84

  • Awsum stuff. hope no1 gets in trouble 4 cpyright, so good to have this up for evry1 2see!! This is ours. no other race like it.

  • Lol wat OH&S, these days if u did half the shit that they did back then workcover would close down the race comps

No armco railings around trees, ppl all over the track lol

I think one of those drivers in the pits was Bob Morris? wat eva happened to him?

    RIP Peter Brock :(

  • this video brings bak memories of my dads vb commodore wit all the hdt spoiler kit sweet sweet memories

  • wats the name of this song?

  • The song is: Elton John - Sad Songs (Say So Much)

  • Good vid im suprised you didnt post the rock incident :O

  • They did.45sec mark

  • I NEVER miss this race . thanks 4 the posting

  • wow, i remember seeing this video as a 3-year-old on vhs, i would watch it over and over...

    that's old-school, right there.

  • Great Post. I remember watching this on video when I was about 10 years old ...

  • Bathurst Glory Days!!!

This was motor racing!! Love the Clip.

  • tear to the eye! i say bring back a new torana vk holden and the glory days! brill vid love it, miss you pete rip

  • i got marriied on this song

  • i agree with otg2007 should be back to different manufacturers. production carracing like the good old "win on sunday sell on monday" days. i think it stems down to too many v8 ego's being bruised by the lighter 4 6 cyl and turbo cars

  • Pitty the Bill Brown crash was cut short, i hear old Bill is very sick at the moment, i met him once and he was kind enough to show me through his personal collection of race memorabilia and sign some classic pic's of his crashed GT HO....top footage buddy.

  • name of the song?

  • The song is: Elton John - Sad Songs (Say So Much)

  • thanks :)

  • bring back the true bathurst. all breeds in all classes. sick to death of ford v holden. boring. V8 supercars days are numbered.

  • love it

  • Fabulous video..great soundtrack..

  • cant beat bathurst for racing with emotions, just great brings back good old memories, just the best races ever.

  • Nice one ... love the olden days

  • Channel 7 used to do lots of pieces like this.

I wonder if they still exist somewhere in their archives

  • Rumour has it that a lot of the old CH7 sports archives were either taped over or ended up as landfull under a Sydney Tennis Court. Which is sad if true.

  • That would be landfill lol.

  • My mum remembers this clip being shown sometime in the mid 80s! If anyone has any more old channel 7 live footage like this get it up here!!!

  • Awesome video, very well done.

  • Yeah great stuff, appropriate song.

  • excellent video, shame about the lack of valiants, but still a top vid.

  • Can't remember where I got this clip from. Love the footage. Have the highlights packages from 1960 - 2001 though, some excellent footage in those

  • where did u get this? Great stuff, original live tv pictures, now lost...Good to see
