Screw Globalisation, bring me back my local TV Show host. Living in Northern PG County I had the privilege of watching both Captain Chesapeake (aka. Your Ghost Host) and Captain 20 (aka. Count Gore De Vol). Thanks posting this video and for All the awesome memories.
One thing I could never understand was the sea monster's name. What the heck does "Mondee" mean? I know it's his name, but it is so wacko. It's not even a clever reference to something supposely more "sinisiter," as was the case for example with HR Puffinstuff.
Oh no. I did a search on youtube for Captain Chesapeake, wanting to take a ride in the Wayback Machine but a. it never loaded (I'll retry) and b. its only 4 seconds long?? What can possibly happen in 4 seconds?
wow! i just had a dream about watching the show... I met him and still have a photograph taken with him, probably around 1975. I woke up and the theme song was running through my head - weird - haven't thought of that in YEARS...
I also met the Captain in the late 70s. Got his autograph, but it got lost. Think my dad threw it away. Im sorry to hear he passed away in 2000. He will be missed
I met him in person...of course, my father had to hit on the mermaid appearing with Captain C. so that kind of blew the whole deal in terms of getting an autograph......
i agree with bigracfan - some of the backgrounds were a little questionable..... wilderness or harbor decay? even the aquarium is not very pleasant to the eye. BUT it's not the backgrounds that matter - it's the good ol' captain! do you have the opening theme, middy2121?
does anyone else remember the captain chesapeake 10pm PSA? "It's ten o'clock, do you know where your children are?"
that was great!! I remember seeing him and watching him faithfully for years!! one question though....of all of the nice wilderness and scenery along the chesapeake bay, why, when they did the mondee scenes, did they always have nasty ass Bethlehem steel in the background???

Whatever happened to independent TV stations and local kids shows? They all seemed to went the way of the dodo.

I just saw some clips of Wonderama and Kids Are People Too. Both shows were on when I was in Aberdeen, Maryland from 1972-1979.

3 seconds of the captain is not enough.

Is that all? I never realized the 'green screen' on mondee was so aweful. But I just had a little b/w tv when I watched him as a kid.
