  • once again thanks for posting this. this whole album is unbelievable. it's a shame most people don't know about it. truly an amazing bluegrass record.

  • Hey Keith! You Will Never and Not Be Forgotten! Rock in Peace!

  • i was a coal miner for 12 years this is a beautiful song ..

  • ANother GREAT post !!! Thanks so very much !

  • Is that keith singing lead great post?

  • @Master100Mind Thanks! It sounds to me like they alternated the lead, each doing it at different parts of the song.

  • @lettermen1 : I think you're right - Their voices must have been quite similar at that time.

  • @lettermen1 They absolutely did NOT switch off singing lead. That is Whitley through and through.

  • @lettermen1 : I think so, too - I have listened to this so many times!

  • @lettermen1 Well i guess my question is who starts the song?

  • thats a sad song but it was nice one too

  • I love Country music , i love Keith legacy and Ricky too, but i simple love the Lightfoot's original, though this not bad at all.

  • Thank you, lettermen1, for posting this excellent miner's song. I believe it goes to the heart of the real tragedy of this month's mine explosion in WV, as well as the other mining disasters that have occurred in this country and elsewhere around the globe. Whitley and Skaggs' bluegrass version here is incomparable!

  • @justmusicandme You're right of course, Loretta, this is such an evocative song, and must be even more so for anyone caught up in such tragic events.......

  • My heart goes out to the families of those lost in the Upper Big Branch mine. God bless you. I dedicate this song to them.

    D~

  • My daddy used to be a coal miner & would sing this song to us kids. Thanks for posting.

  • My daddy was also a miner for 43 years!

  • Timeless!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for this wonderful song.

  • I love Keith's voice when he was young like this...

  • Thanks! I'll check when I have time. They do say the old ones are the best!!

  • Awesome. Ive got this song by the stanley brothers on the cd titled ' an evening a long time ago'. Its well worth checking it out if you havent heard it. 5+

  • very good thanks for the post 5*****

  • Sounds like the guys hero Dr Ralph...what a great voices!

  • Both Ricky Skaggs and Keith Whitely played with Ralph when they recorded this album.

  • this is a cool song...i've always liked it!

  • Didn't know you were into Country Eman!!

  • Hey Phil! Yeah as Donny and Marie once sang, I'm a little bit country, I'm a little bit rock and roll...but it's safe to say I like all kinds of music. My Dad listens to country sometimes and likes Bluegrass... I'm more of a Pop Country type
