  • My lips are extremly Chapped all the time. All 4 seasons. I've been having to use chapstick for 5 years now. I have to bring Chapstick everywhere i go on only 2 kinds works for me. Blistex and Carmex. Idk wy but now my lips are terrible even those 2 that work for me arn't working. But if i do use them than i will have to put in on litterlay every 5 minutes. When it gets really bad i will sometimes get cold sores, i put some cold sore treatment and i numbs my lips. Ya My life sucks Bc of this

  • I was licking my lips and then when he said "dont lick them" i instantly wiped my lips..... OKAY IM GONNA STOP COMMENTING

  • @ExOsiLe That's what i do. And i use regular not the flavor kind

  • @mamidoify LOL THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!! LOL

  • @nabstudio Well, burt bees might help you. They have this one that replenishes your lips. Hope this helps. :P

  • aw this guy is so cute haha

  • @misunderstoodmakeup cute he's like 60 yeers old.....

  • @MelancholyApples as in grandad cute, here in the uk it means adorable not attractive haha

  • does anyone know what the product in the silver tube is?

  • It's so hard not to lick them. And now after using every, and I do mean every, chap stick there is now, there's a bacterial problem. And they hurt so bad. Went to a doctor, said to use Clotrimazole Cream. Need to do this for two wees, on top of that I have to put this irritation relief as a second coat, lie a glue. But right now they're red, cut. The right side of the lips where you open the mouth is cracked. So eating is a discomfort. So after my lips get really bad, what do I do to fix them?

  • too much of a science lesson...

  • I only have flavored lip balm and it tastes yummy and I just realized something I'm licking my lips right now and I have the taste of blood in my mouth.....

  • Now if I could only stop biting my lips >.<

  • LOOL I was licking my lips, and immediately stopped when he said "Don't lick them"

  • I seriously need to top licking my lips. They look disgusting, and their bleeding (literally)

  • thank you but i always lick my lips:( ill try to put lip balm on and not lick my lips:)

  • To break my habit of licking my lips, i just use lip balm or lip gloss.

I feel its there and it stops me from licking them. Just dont use a good flavored one.;)

  • @ExOsiLe thanks for the tip :)

  • @ExOsiLe y not good flavored one?

  • @MRT0BY510 cuz youll want to lick your lips if they taste good :)

  • Chap lips are gay can't kiss no one !!!! I want it gone!!!!

  • i lick my lips how do i break tht habit

  • so interesting love this video

  • My lips get soft once the chap stick drys then it gets dry and chapped again any tips anyone help?

  • Is Burt's Bees Lip Balm good because I have really chapped lips and they are burning :'(

  • @RockerGirl8356 I use Burt's Bees all the time. It works amazing. My lips are just like yours this season, because they are burning, i don't recommend the medicated one because it worsens the burning. However, if you do get the medicated one and want a better smell, take another lip balm and lightly coat over the medicated one. I do that and now not only do they smell good, they're healed.

  • @PlatiumHearts OMG!!!!!!! I do that too!!!! Aquavit forever and liquid gold olive oil lol

  • Oops already licked mine also mine really hurt

  • I have a terrible habbit of picking at my chapped lips :( and i cant seem to stop it... any tips for that? :(

  • my lips are bad right now from being in the sun and heavy winds last weekend

  • before he said not to lick my lips i was all licking my lips.. haha they hurt

  • Palmer's cocoa butter is the king of all lip balms. It's less than £2.00 and is an absolute miracle worker!!! And it smells gorgeous too.

Lot's of people use vaseline but they don't tell you that your lips get addicted to it, basically building up an immunity to the petroleum and you need to use more each time. Basically it's crap, use a beeswax or even better - cocoa butter!!! :-D

  • gosh im leaking my lips x(

  • very helpful videos.. thank you so much.. :)

  • ohmy god..

All these people that are sayin How to get rid of chapped lips are actually making my chapped lips worse. dammit -.-

were not suppose to exfoliate are lips when they are chapped as the doctor sed =|

  • i use lip balms amd other products but right after it goes away. any tips?

  • omg this is an awesome channel. so happy i found it!

  • Well dr. I have had chapped lips for three years and it's sad!I use almost any chap stick you can think of and they don't work what do I do?I just won't normal lips please

    help me! ; (

  • @mj84512 have you tried burts bees? it works really well!!

  • i am frustrtated debating if i should go to the doctor i have been suffereing from chapped lips for 2 yrs straight even in summer i am tired of buying chapsticks do doctors have precription lip balms or anti bacterial stuff for the lip?

  • Alright, alright. You might think you know much about lips, and honestly, you probably do. However, my name is Dr. Magellen PhD, professor of labiology, the study of, well, lips, of course! Ergo, I must inform you, that cracked lips are beautiful. They are rugged, meaty, scraped up works of art, under appreciated masterpieces. Everyday, my morning ablutions take extra long since I take much time to hand-weather my lips .

Please stop discriminating against chapped lips. Thank you.

  • best doctor ever lol

  • doc, please please discuss about lip lines/ wrinkles treatment

  • @kim103live YES! THATS ANOTHER PROBLEM!

  • one question dr. is it safe to apply mineral oil or petrolatum base products on the face? thanks

  • Dont lick them........oops

  • how about softlips would that work?...

  • WOOOOW! way to go dr! that saliva effect part was marvelous!

  • I always wondered why licking your lips made it worse. Thanks for the video.

  • Doctor. I have had dry, peeling, sore lips for over 15 years (I'm 22), nothing works to stop them going dry and the skin coming off. I've tried loads of creams and ointments from my doctor, including a steroid (Daktacort ointment--Miconazole Nitrate 2% W/W, hydrocortisone 1% W/W). Nothing seems to work on my lips. I also use Eumovate cream (0.5mg Clobetasone butyrate 0.05% W/W) for moderate eczema on the rest of my body. Please, if you have any advice, I would be so grateful! Thank you.

  • Hello doctor, I had question, when we buy face moisturiser with SPF for our day time and use the same moisturiser at night aswell, so is the SPF do any bad on our skin if we use at night? hope you get the chance to answer this becuase it's so important for me to know, thanks for your time dotor.

  • carmex is the best lip balm out there so far that i have tried, and i have tried A LOT (Y)

  • VASELINEEEE!!!

been using it for years every night before bed and throughout the day!!

  • Hello Dr. Schultz, thanks a bunch for posting this. I like minty lip balm!!!

  • carmex is bad....it does this thing where it moisturizes your lips for first hour, but dries your lips out on purpose so you have to keep reapplying, thats what the company did on purpose so then you go buy more....

and it has like this glass property which is bad for your lips, and eventually create a dark outter ring around your lips ( like youre wearing dark lip liner yuck)

yes its true, happened to my friend, her lips dont look cute

  • thanks doc!!!!! =)

  • burts bees wax products are amazing for chapped lips, thanks for the tip about saliva lol i never considered it.

  • I really like carmex, my lips are so smooth now :)

  • I love this channel! You consistently come out with videos discussing topics I've always wondered about but have forgotten to ask.

  • thank u, it was good info

  • aquaphor works well for my chapped lips, it feels really moisturizing... but at certain times my lips just get really chapped for no reason (even in mild weather and i'm hydrated), is it possible that I have eczema on my lips too? i have it on the palm side of my hands, it's really irritating because i have no fingerprints -__-

  • very helpful video!

  • Thank you sexy, you are always so very helpful! xxG

  • I use lip balm only very irregularly and I hardly ever have dry lips, so maybe there is something to it that they dry your lips out more if you use them every day?

  • Hey guys, instead of using Carmex or Chapstick, try using a sugar and Olive Oil scrub. Because once you start using those lip balms, your lips start depending on them for all it's moisture and stopping it from producing their own moisture. By leaving your lips completely alone for a week, without any balm or oil, they are forced to make moisture and repair themselves. Then, you can start using the olive oil scrub thing. It's gonna suck that first week, but it's definately worth it :)

  • OMG This is so going into my favoriteS!

  • I heard this interesting little conspiracy theory a while ago. Someone told me that some companies put a drying agent into their lip balm so that their products actually dry your lips out even further with continued use, forcing you to buy more and more lip balm. Im just curious as to whether there is any validity to this.

  • ive been using lip balms for the last ten years every single day. without them my lips get dry. is it true that regular use of lip balms makes the lips more prone to dryness, unable to retain their moisture without lip balm anymore?

  • My MaryKay associate said that many lip balms, including Carmex, have alcohol in them. It's intended for sanitary purposes, but instead it dries lips out. I don't know if she said this in attempts to sell MK's lip balm or because it really is true. What lip balms would you suggest? Can some actually be harmful, like the MK associate said?

  • "when it dries, it cracks"..."when it rains, it pours" hahaha

  • Great video!

  • Not sure if you respond to questions on this channel, but if you do, what is your opinion of the value of exfoliating the lips, and what should be avoided in doing that [product ingredients, etc]? Thak you for this video.

  • @nomadfae Dr. Schultz answers questions that are emailed to him. I mention this because I would love to know the answer to his as well!

  • @nomadfae The answer is counter intuitive because chapped lips are flaky and we often exfoliate flaky skin. However, it is usually not appropriate to exfoliate lips when they are chapped (should only be done when lips are normal) because most cases of chapped lips represent a low level of inflammation which could be worsened by exfoliation. For exfoliation of lips when normal, use a glycolic product. Great question!

  • @dermTVdotcom . ummm hi , i have chaped lips , but not realy on my lips , its just right below the lip . what should i do for that ??

  • Thanks Doc!! Thanks for taking the time to do this one!!!

  • Always look for a lip balm with an SPF for daytime. The sun can be very drying and can easily burn and dry out your lips.

    Vaseline works great at night.

  • I use Kiehls Lip Balm, and it's the best I've ever used! Thanks for the advice!

  • Thanks for the advice! : )

  • Thank you doc;). xx

  • I love Vaseline Lip Therapy, Burts Bees, and Nivea Touch of Moisture.

  • I had really dry lips in winter and then used lip balm daily and it helped a lot. But now I have the problem that my lips can't seem to stay moisturized without it anymore... Can I do anything for that or should I just keep using balm? If I don't use it my lips feel really dry and crack easily. =(

  • @FinaChan Have you tried using olive oil? Just a dab in place of lip balm really helps. If you need a little more, try a dab of petroleum jelly after applying the olive oil.

  • @LadyTigerLily works for me to! or coconut oil.

  • Whatever happened to just wetting your lips with your tongue? Lol

  • @gasfgiop Did you not listen to the video at all? PLEASE listen from 2:08 - 2:35

  • @TheComment01 Right...I must've skipped that part. Thanks, asshole.

  • @gasfgiop Just wanted to help. But now, I'm going to go to the pet store and buy you a kitten, a little baby kitten. You're going to grow up with that kitten and love her with all your heart. Then, on a cold, stormy night, I'm going to find your house, sneak into your bedroom, and punch you in the face.

  • @TheComment01 And in that bedroom you'll find me doing your sister.

  • @gasfgiop addressed in the video.. the function of saliva is to pre-digest food. Putting saliva on your lips will worsen chapped lips.

  • @Jaishirri Yeah, see, some studies run counter to that, so I'm not entirely convinced.

  • I love carmex but my 8 year old is allergic to it so she uses burts bees

  • i use carmex its work for me

  • carmex is one of the worst lip balms/treatments I've ever used. Instead of moisturizing and healing my lips, it actually dried them out. And the smell is just nauseating! it literally smells like vicks vaporub ointment. so gross, made me feel sick. If you want a really good all-natural lip balm that will actually moisturize your delicate lips, try ganache for lips. i swear by this stuff!

  • @jayteelicious1 I have to disagree with you there I love carmex!! i love the sensation you get when you put it on and as for the smell , they have different scents now. I swear by carmex, it really helps my chapped lips.

  • @jayteelicious1 or maybe vasaline? it has somekinda cherry flavour. works well too.

  • @jayteelicious1 b!tch what you talking about..... how does carmex dry them out. carmex uses beeswax which this doctor talked about, which seals in moisture. isn't ganache chocolate? you're trippin. whatchyou high?

  • When I use my toner, i use my hands to rub it onto my face, instead of a cotton ball because the cotton ball leaves sediments on my face. Is using my hand bad? Is it reducing the succes of the toner?
