  • Very cool version of Black Orpheus! Great rhythm section, too. It's great that you could get the famous Tom and Jerry team on the gig! I'd like to post my friends version as a video response. She plays sax and has a rendition of the same song posted on YouTube under the name Debb Saxx. Any suggestions?

  • Just amazing to hear you both. The best version I've heard of this song. Thanks.

  • Lovely, and great conga playing. My conga teacher taught me this rhythmn and I found that I could use it in a variety of music, and gave the piece the lift it needed, anytime!!

  • nice music.

  • Beautifully done…

  • @sergeytry Thanks!

  • It has that feeling! However, having such a great rhythm section as Alfredo you could afford being less rhythmic and choppy and bring in more lyric and melody in contrast to that rhythm. Two rhythm makers feel a bit redundant to me.

Having said that I do really thank you for your postings! I appreciate you as truly great musician. You have one of the highest "feeling and relevance per note" ratio among other pianists here.

  • Finally, another someone who plays it at this tempo! I was expecting a congo solo, but all is great ! haha

  • very nice.

  • sick!

  • I have listened to countless versions, interpretations of this beautiful piece and your version is one of my ultimate favorites! You and alfredo absolutely killed it.. AWESOME! I've learned a few techniques from Al watching his great conga beat as well! Thanks.. I've listened to you posting here several times! CONGRATS!

  • I had forgotten about this one - just re-visited it - amazing playing.

  • I like the Latin groove here. A lot of people forget about that when playing this standard. Also dig the beginning piano lick and you keep that feel going the whole tune. Best arrangement i have heard of this in awhile.

  • This Bonfa's song title is Manha de Carnaval. It means Morning of Carnival in English. Black Orpheus is a movie title.

  • Your feel so unadulterated...

    Great!

  • Really nice guys! Loved it! I wish i knew guys like you, to jam with. where is this from? =)

  • a very cuban version :-) good stuff

  • I keep coming back to this recording. It always puts me in a real good mood. I've posted it on facebook profile and I'm not your only fan in my friends list now. :-)

    Thank you so much!

  • excellent...:)

  • oh sweet Black Orpheus. Tom and Jerry are heck good players, do they have a record? haha

  • COOOOOOL! BRAVO!!

  • Have you thought about playing Aguas de Marco (Waters of March)? Would love to hear you do that one, and if I missed it on your channel, I was just struck blind.

Thanks for all the great pieces!

  • Enjoyed everything about this video!

    Thanks!

  • Man, if you do not have a CD for sale, you ought to get one. Love your stuff. Have been listening for a couple of years now.

  • I'm impressed, great melodic playing!

  • Wow !love it!!!10 stars....thanks for posting.

  • I really enjoyed this one Tom. 5***** Great piano and conga playing. I agree that Chucho Valdes is an amazing player!

  • bravo!!

    I am waiting your disc...

  • Fantastic...as always.

  • Cool

  • I also love the movie by Marcel Camus. I hope that you and your great conga partner will play all the other great tunes from this movie and post it here on youtube.

  • this is my favorite jazz piece....awesome work

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, it just does NOT get better than this! Fantastic in every way -- including the priceless look Alfredo gives you afterward, and

your smile in return. This was delish! ~Terry

  • this is AMAZING!!!! i watched all of your videos & your feel is amazing!

what i really enjoy in your playing

is that you "think fast". all your ideas are flowing together into your solo so well

    it's FAN TAS TIC!!!!!

  • Thanks, mitoog. I appreciate it.

  • wow you are great my friend

    you have amazing feel

    cheers

    memo

  • Nice playing and concept! I really like it. By the way, I think 2/3 clave fits in this song. Your montuno and the conga pattarn are in 2/3 clave, I think.

  • Not really b3halt.

Mr 7note, is playing 3/2 Rumba Clave but it should be played with 2/3 Son Clave.

I really liked the "montunos"...!!! Interesting, I'm gonna practice them....!!!

    Regards from Panama !!!

  • @chackyjazz I agree. The clave is atravesada. Would have grooved much better in 2/3.

  • 7: Muy excellente-totalmente, como siempre!

    Klav

  • Very good job with piano! Tom & Jerry was so funny :)

  • I have become a HUUUUGGGEEE fan of you lately, I'm a student at California State University Northridge in the Jazz Studies program (Piano Performance) I watch your videos all the time and am blown away by how solid your bebop chops are, and then I watch this particular video and find out you have afro-cuban chops too and can feel the montunos like a cuban would. A - MAZ - ING!

  • Thanks erikisimo. I'm just starting to familiarize myself with Afro Cuban & Salsa. It's a challenge - very different than swing, but just great to play.

  • Yes It's different.... mainly cause of the clave stuff..!!! Keep going I really like your videos... They helps me a lot..!!!

    Regards from Panama

  • yes a Great player
