There delta, but what they did goes with the Ranger creed, if you know it you know what i mean, you never leave a brother behind, even if it means giving it all up so they can see tomarrow, these guys are real men.
Anytime I watch this video, it makes me almost wanna cry. The song is so moving and these two great men are the angels from above. May their souls continue to rest in peace. Amen !
may these brave guys rest in peace.but what i cant understand is the chopper that dropped them why didnt they cover the crash site from the air i know they didnt want another bird going down but there was a lot of somalis around plus the other chopper that was over seeing the situation could they not have provided additional back up.if the guys were fighting the somalis for an hour could the us have not sent in more cover from their base.
The movie doesn't show it, but just as their bird dropped them in there it got clipped as well and some of its crew were wounded. The bird that dropped Shughart and Gordon in just barely made it back without crashing itself.
Not as far as I know. Most likely they wouldn't, after they were killed, they were stripped, and their bodies paraded around the district. Not likely that they found their ways back into U.S. hands.
Actually, they were recovered. During negotiations with Aidid's clan after the battle, they were told there would be no negotiations, and that all the bodies at crashsite two, along with Durant were to be turned over immedietly. The representative made the subtle threat of saying "He couldn't be held responsible for what would happen if the demand wasn't met." The clan immedietly turned over Durant and the bodies. In return, the US released those they captured at the target building.
They were recovered. It sucks if you plan a raid on a house to gather up some bad apples to just turn them in, and on top of that, men died in the process, good men that is.
Mhm, Brad Hallings. He would've gone down with Shug and Gordy, however, one of the minigun crew chiefs of their black hawk got hit, so hallings took his spot, that's the sole reason he didnt join. IF that gunner hadnt gotten hit, who knows how much longer they could've lasted...
When I have a bad day and feel sorry for myself, I look at these videos and remember. Ordinary men, extraordinary achievement, extraordinary courage, extraordinary commitment, extraordinary sacrifice, = extraordinary men = heroes. God rest them both. I, we, are all better for their having lived. RLTW!
The movie was good and close to detail. I read the account detailed by inquirer.philly, it was a moving recollection of bravery and valor. I commend you on your post of a tribute to those two snipers who GAVE ALL.
I can't describe how much respect I have for the troops. Especially great heroes such ans Gordon and Shugart. They are the apitamy of what it means to be a good human being.
Got tears in my eyes watching this vid. These two are the bravest soldiers I have ever known. They deserve the medal of honor and I pray God to bless their families and loved ones they left behind. Mike Durrant, was a great soldier as well. I saw the movie and didn't believe he would survive both the crash and torture he endured in 11 days. I'll go buy his books.
see i did a prodject on randy shughart and whe ni watched the movie again it shwoed him taking to shots with his m14? its a 7.62 that will knock you down and keep you down especialy with a SPECOPS soldier behind it but they should have given them more ammunition
they gave him teh standard loadout for aerial sniper cover- they didnt expect to be holding off a chopper with two soldiers against 500+ somalis. Mind you, the operation originally was to only take 30 minutes.
omg they were brave they fought to death but nothing could help them but they served america well and they deserver the medal of honour they are happy now in a new life no wars just them with there shiny medals :(
amen, the greatest soldiers the United States has ever produced deserved nothing short of that great honor. God bless them and all U.S. soldiers, past, present, and future

so did the U.S. ever recover their bodies?
That's very gruesome what they do to U.S. bodies... but they fought well

I'm suprised at how long they lasted against that crowd. Those two are truly elite soldiers deserving of their MoHs.

Brad Hallings was seriously injured in Super Six-2, but later on was able to rejoin Delta due to recovery.
p.s. He is one thankful S.O.B. I'm sure he would have gone in also, but you need the miniguns up in the air. He has used all his lives:
-Not Facing overrun at crash like Shughart and Gordon.(RIP to them, true definition of heroes)
-RPG explosion inside Blackhawk
-Blackhawk crash over friendly lines
-Recovery of his wounds
Someone really likes this guy.

I am inspired by there courage.
I know it is wrong to kill one another.
But really it is a act of loyalty to sacrifice your life for strangers.
If they did'nt stand up and fight. History would of changed.. and some of us might not be here.
