The vaporised volatiles that cook off the sawdust in the pyroliser travel down through the tube in the center of the enameled pot. There is a gap underneath the pot before the plate and plug at the bottom of the pipe. The gases are spread around the pipe and between the pot and plate, igniting next to the bottom of the pot.
Sawdust in the tube won't let enough air through to burn much at all, until nearly empty. Then it will dump the rest into the burning area.
can you please explain what you are doing here. I am also at a loss as to why the saw dust in the feed tube doesn't act as a chimney and burn up through it. many thanks.

That is my guess.

How does smoke come 'through the bottom' of the 1 inch black iron when the black iron has a cap fitting?
