@KrisStewObsesion I'm not a fascist, you're just an idiotic bore for going on a video just to knock. You actually typed "Solaris" into the search bar. You utter nonse.
I like the original better than the remake, because of the cinematography and deeper humanitarian message; but both films neglected the Alien Organism that comprised the entire ocean planet, which the book focuses on as much, or even more than the love interest it produced.
Now that I've seen this trailer I'm gonna look for the movie to watch it. I Vaguely remember hearing the title when it was in circulation and can't recall why I havn't seen it yet.
This film does talk about the limitations of human perception - life, death, love, religion. This is spoken through Rheya's character at the dinner on Earth and at the end when she tells Chris, "We don't have think like that anymore." And in Gibarian's bit about "the Puppet's Dream," and Chris's "return to Earth."
Soderbergh's film plays with the definition of what is real and how humans react to that definition. All of this wrapped around Chris's regret.
I think I didn't mean "perception" but "insight" in connection with science.
"[As] Solaris' author I shall allow myself to repeat that I only wanted to create a vision of a human encounter with something that certainly exists, in a mighty manner perhaps, but cannot be reduced to human concepts, ideas or images." (as quoted in Wikipedia)
This is what the book is. In the Movie I see mainly emotion. BTW: Relgion. Lem was an atheist.
Tarkovskys original was very special and a powerful experiance, but i have to admit soderberghs re-make was better. Blasphemy to the buffs am sure. But this film tells the story better i believe, and the sound track would have been used by Tarkovsky if he could have.
Thanks for this trailer, i am going to buy the dvd today.
Not blasphemy, ignorance. The original isn't meant to have linear American sensibilties, so the fact that this cloonster copy is so much shallower yet less challenging to follow, is a massive flaw. If you can't see that I don't call it blasphemy, I call it simple-mindedness.
Clearly a buff. "linear American sensibilities" what are they then? "Shallow and less challenging to follow", what are you saying, that's it's not got subtitles and its not 2 hours and 45 minutes long. The so called "cloonster copy" actually follows the Tarkovsky version almost to the letter, bar the scene with Burton at the beginning. I don't believe making a film slightly more accessible can be deemed a "massive flaw". Stanislaw Lem said of the film "I never really liked Tarkovsky's version"
"I never really liked Tarkovsky's version" - He said this long before the version of Soderberg existed (there was a russion TV-version even before Tarkovsky). But he also wouldn't like the version of Soderbergh, you can be sure. Because the movie is even farer away from the book than the movie of Tarkovsky (e.g. both have a completly different ending than the book). The book is better, because it's not only focused on the love story, but about the limitations of human perception.
In the Soviet version, Kelvin doesn't want to see his wife again because he doesn't want to revisit the reason she killed herself. But she keeps reappearing, no matter how many times he tries to get rid of her.
"junkiejunkiexl: hard to understand, isn't?? ;];]" - The main reason why I don't like that crap it's simplicity. Read a book - it's more complicated and interesting.
thats more like an alternative trailer to the movie. when you say recut you change the genre of the movie by recuting its parts and/or adding parts from other movies. you sould try it on solarismake it like an epic space movie or something and say how tha movie would be if it was made by todays standarts.
I FEEL SAD THAT I WILL BE IGNORED LIKE EVERYONE, BUT OH WELL WHAT CAN YOU DO?
The kid is Gibarian's (spelling?) son, and assumedly his visitor. I don't think we know who Gordon's visitor is, because she assumedly 'got rid' of it before Kelvin arrives.
Who's the little kid? Is he the visitor of the scientist in a laboratory? I've red the book but i haven't seen the movie. But from what i seen in trailers, the soviet version of the movie is better, they don't screw around with the characters.
Kevlvin's wife has murdered its selt many years ago.But one night at that planed when he wakes up he sees her by his side.Everything changes,he starts to driving mad.Every time he gets rid of her she's back but she didn't remember anything beside the things before her death.Kelvin is teared between love and the mind.
To understand Lem you need to look further than just present. You need to think like Lem find a second bottom. You should he was telling about the world order and the world and humanity. Its a very interesting story.Even if you are interested with aliens.
sometimes it's any blame, sometimes a tragic story, sometimes any deviation.this organism is very radical. he just materialises human secrets. why? we don't know!!that's why one crewman committed suicide and the rest of them isolated from each other. what happens to kelvin?? we know.his girlfriend committed suicide and he feels guilty of that. that's why solaris created her. and that's it
but he wrote this book to show us that even if there are any aliens maybe there is not so easy to make contact with them. so, he showed us solaris as one condensed organism.
science institutes have lots of informations about this living THING but to tell the truth they know nothing about it. this organism thinks but this is absolutely inhuman way of thinking.
Great job! Excellent use of score and cuts. This is one of my favorite films, and your trailer is a helluva lot better than the ones that were commissioned by Fox. Their trailers made it look like a sappy Kevin Costner movie.
PHENOMENAL TRAILER! I really love this movie and this is finally a trailer that does it justice. The two official trailers on the DVD really do suck. Great work you did here.
At least you can grasp the cosmological theme of LOVE that the others are refusing to see. So regardless of whether it is about human interaction or human suffering or Aliens the theme is still LOVE and if you understand the concept inherent in screenwriting then you will not grasp this.
Look I am not a teenage boy giving an opinion. Even the screenwriter of this movie admits it's a love story. Y do u think you know more than the guy who created the story?
very nice re-cut trailer. you're right - hollywood really screwed this one up because i thought i was going to see some sort of sci-fi flick, originally. great film it turned out to be though.
It's a good remix and the pacing was just right. American audiences aren't too bright and hate to think longer than 30 seconds. Well at least the younger ones on this site don't seem very intelligent.
One more thing: I do believe that it was essentially a love story remember the line: "And death shall have no dominion."
Have you ever been in love? From the way you write I take it the answer is "NO". Because the ending clearly is indicative of a man in love. What's the matter with you besides being a lonely boy or man who has never experienced true love.
its not about me. do us all the favor and don't psychoanalyze from one youtube comment. its about the movie which happens to not be a love story but a story about a man dealing with himself after love. kelvin might be in love, but that doesn't make it a love story. its a science fiction movie an alien planet that tortures the scientists studying it USING love. which is a lot different.
It's about the Universal aspect of "LOVE" and if you had any idea of what you were writing about you would KNOW that. That's why I asked if you had ever been in LOVE. "You" is symbolic because any who's experienced love knows this.
yeah, that "universal aspect of 'love'" that Solaris uses to TORTURE the scientists! that's why it manifests children, lovers, and even someone's self. that's a love story? the appearance of love in a story does not make a love story. Considering that Soderbergh blamed the film's box office failure partially on its marketing as a sci-fi love story, i think that i'm correct. And enough with the ad hominem attacks, especially since I don't, and will never, know you.
Look the theme is LOVE period. How that LOVE is used is another matter. No one ever said that LOVE always ends happily and that is the damn point, still love exists because Rheya although now an Alien manifestation clearly loves Chris Enough to seemingly make the ultimate sacrifice. Look if you are unable to comprehend the Bigger picture then stop trying to argue with someone who evidently can.
I won the argument. You changed what you said. first you said it was a love story now you say love is the theme. which is very different. semantically you're still wrong, though, because love is A theme not THE theme. I'd like to note that at no point have i criticized you as a person, while you resorted to ad hominem attacks in your every response.
Look this is my last response. You and your supporters have clearly displayed your abject ignorance. It's a LOVE Story, the theme is LOVE ! The Premise is sci fi but it's still a love story. Idiots.
that wasn't a response because i didn't say anything to provoke it. I don't care about your degrees. And, Evelyn, your petty remarks only serve to prove that your 48 years have given you nothing nothing over my younger yet superior faculties of judgment, reason, and argumentation. And YOU know the principles of screenwriting? Were that true I'd expect that you'd know the difference between a theme and a genre. smooches.
First off if you were so damn itellectually superior then you would not assume that the info on my profile is true. My real name is not "Evelyn" nor am I 48. Yes I do know the difference between A "GENRE" and a "THEME". I also know about sequencing, first and second reversals enlightenment and so forth. Now STOP WASTING MY TIME BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW A GODDAMN THING!
You wasted my time! You should have told me about your degree sooner. I can tell you I'm smart enough to know I could never succeed against a Manager of Knowledge. I'll now retire to my cave and continue to rape and pillage with my fellow Neanderthals another day.
Damn you Manager of Knowledge! you've beaten me once again. If only i had an ounce of intelligence, then maybe I would have thought of pulling random terms off of the wikipedia entry on screenwriting before you. You haven't said a single thing that actually backs up what you say. Mentioning random terms doesn't constitute an argument. You use these words without demonstrating that you know what they mean. Why should i believe you know them when you lie about your name and age!
Why is it that every loser begins a rebuttal with "if you were so damn....". They often also say "if your so smart, then...".
lezxotic, the award-winning screenwriter she likes to dream about being, is easily the single most pathetic person I have personally interacted with here on Youtube,
...and that's saying a mouthful.
It's good to be number one at something, even if that something is laughable.
Rock on, master-screenwriter lezxotic. Your name is as profound as your wit.
admittedly not having seen the movie i cannot say who is right or wrong but ceilingtracer has put forth a much more coherent and well supported argument than you and your attacks at his (or her) character/love life. id say you should quit while your behind and stop making yourself look worse. in this debate all points go to ceilingtracer and to quote a great "At no point in your rambling, did you even come close to an intelligent thought... I award you no points, may God have mercy on your soul"
Soderberg's first definition was the right one, but because American and younger audiences cannot grasp these complex themes he made excuses. What he should have said was that most audiences are stupid. Now Natascha McElhone is in the U.K due to a death in her family (she played Rheya) I can email her but I doubt she will respond to such trivial matters.
what in the hell does being in the UK have to do with the ability to email someone? its called the World Wide Web for a reason, connecting people from all over the globe to a place where ideas and concepts can be shared. you can email Natascha McElhone from Uganda if you wanted.
you are full of shit. there i said it. now give up, I won. and being american or young has nothing to do with it. stupidity transcends age and nationality. I love this movie but even i (and YOU) have to admit its not palatable for a wide audience.
What is your age? Look I have a Master's Degree in Knwledge Mananagement. I did not change anything. Clearly this issue is beyond you Junior intellect. Little boy why don't you study the principles of screenwritng I have and you will see who is full of shit. Now begone video boy who doesn't know shit about "Complexity."
Settle down and get off your high horse, how about we all agree that this is a great film with an awesome music score and cast and be done with it. Interpret what you will from a quality film and move on ;)
Settle down, little guy. How about a juice box? Now please calm yourself and tell us what all this rage is really about. Did mom say you have to stop playing WOW for a while? Sure, I bet some of us can (pretend to) understand what that must do to someone like yourself, lezxotic. But just remember, things could always be worse, right? Go tell your mom you love her, and that maybe you'll actually move out....perhaps when you are 30?
Take care, little soldier, and fight the good fight.
shuddup Oska, and stop insulting the highly accomplished lezxotic! Dont you know she has written half of the shows that you and I watch! We owe her a debt of gratitude!
Hail lezxotic, mental giant and screenwriter to the Gods!
.....not!
(silly loser lezxotic, get back to your day-job, at Burger King)
I saw the film more as an exploration of humanity and our perception of reality, almost in the vein of a Phillip K. Dick novel.
Rheya may be a copy, but she can still think and feel for herself and struggles with the existential quandary of living her own life vs. the mold of a life she was made from. Her existence is also dictated by Kris' memories of his wife, which may not be accurate. Her entire personality and supposed memories lie in the hands of another person.
Love does play a role though, as Kris is not only confused by his love for the woman that is practically standing in front of him, but he is given the chance to reconcile the rift in their relationship that may or may not have led to her suicide - but as the copy develops an individuality, he realises that she's a different person. Can he then fall in love with a new individual, but one who so closely resembles his deceased spouse? Not an easy question for any man in his position to answer.
Nice job. With the original trailer, it's clear Hollywood had no idea what to do with this brainy, low-key science fiction movie and was trying to pawn it off as "Aliens". Kudos to you.

no it's not a love story. it's a story about what happens after love. because death has its dominion, no matter what solaris does.
ceilingtracer 3 years ago 2
Have you ever been in love? From the way you write I take it the answer is "NO". Because the ending clearly is indicative of a man in love. What's the matter with you besides being a lonely boy or man who has never experienced true love.
lezxotic 3 years ago
its not about me. do us all the favor and don't psychoanalyze from one youtube comment. its about the movie which happens to not be a love story but a story about a man dealing with himself after love. kelvin might be in love, but that doesn't make it a love story. its a science fiction movie an alien planet that tortures the scientists studying it USING love. which is a lot different.
ceilingtracer 3 years ago 3
It's about the Universal aspect of "LOVE" and if you had any idea of what you were writing about you would KNOW that. That's why I asked if you had ever been in LOVE. "You" is symbolic because any who's experienced love knows this.
lezxotic 3 years ago
yeah, that "universal aspect of 'love'" that Solaris uses to TORTURE the scientists! that's why it manifests children, lovers, and even someone's self. that's a love story? the appearance of love in a story does not make a love story. Considering that Soderbergh blamed the film's box office failure partially on its marketing as a sci-fi love story, i think that i'm correct. And enough with the ad hominem attacks, especially since I don't, and will never, know you.
ceilingtracer 3 years ago 3
zing! great comments, i totally agree with you.
stauqmuk 3 years ago
Look the theme is LOVE period. How that LOVE is used is another matter. No one ever said that LOVE always ends happily and that is the damn point, still love exists because Rheya although now an Alien manifestation clearly loves Chris Enough to seemingly make the ultimate sacrifice. Look if you are unable to comprehend the Bigger picture then stop trying to argue with someone who evidently can.
lezxotic 3 years ago
I won the argument. You changed what you said. first you said it was a love story now you say love is the theme. which is very different. semantically you're still wrong, though, because love is A theme not THE theme. I'd like to note that at no point have i criticized you as a person, while you resorted to ad hominem attacks in your every response.
ceilingtracer 3 years ago
Look this is my last response. You and your supporters have clearly displayed your abject ignorance. It's a LOVE Story, the theme is LOVE ! The Premise is sci fi but it's still a love story. Idiots.
lezxotic 3 years ago
that wasn't a response because i didn't say anything to provoke it. I don't care about your degrees. And, Evelyn, your petty remarks only serve to prove that your 48 years have given you nothing nothing over my younger yet superior faculties of judgment, reason, and argumentation. And YOU know the principles of screenwriting? Were that true I'd expect that you'd know the difference between a theme and a genre. smooches.
ceilingtracer 3 years ago
First off if you were so damn itellectually superior then you would not assume that the info on my profile is true. My real name is not "Evelyn" nor am I 48. Yes I do know the difference between A "GENRE" and a "THEME". I also know about sequencing, first and second reversals enlightenment and so forth. Now STOP WASTING MY TIME BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW A GODDAMN THING!
lezxotic 3 years ago
You wasted my time! You should have told me about your degree sooner. I can tell you I'm smart enough to know I could never succeed against a Manager of Knowledge. I'll now retire to my cave and continue to rape and pillage with my fellow Neanderthals another day.
ceilingtracer 3 years ago
"Yes I do know the difference between A "GENRE" and a "THEME". I also know about sequencing, first and second reversals enlightenment and so forth. "
Forget the Knowledge Management aspect. I DUSTED your ass in my knowledge of screen writing also loser.
lezxotic 3 years ago
Damn you Manager of Knowledge! you've beaten me once again. If only i had an ounce of intelligence, then maybe I would have thought of pulling random terms off of the wikipedia entry on screenwriting before you. You haven't said a single thing that actually backs up what you say. Mentioning random terms doesn't constitute an argument. You use these words without demonstrating that you know what they mean. Why should i believe you know them when you lie about your name and age!
ceilingtracer 3 years ago
I like the part where lezxotic said "stop wasting my time". It was poetic, abstract, prophetic, and sincere.
I think I love him. You know, sort of like the "love" in this film?
Ladies and germs, please stop bashing lezxotic! LET HIM ALONE RIGHT NOW! I MEAN IT. HE'S NOT WELL!
*sobs*
eggbertsmith 3 years ago
Why is it that every loser begins a rebuttal with "if you were so damn....". They often also say "if your so smart, then...".
lezxotic, the award-winning screenwriter she likes to dream about being, is easily the single most pathetic person I have personally interacted with here on Youtube,
...and that's saying a mouthful.
It's good to be number one at something, even if that something is laughable.
Rock on, master-screenwriter lezxotic. Your name is as profound as your wit.
eggbertsmith 3 years ago
lezxotic claims to be a highly accomplished screenwriter. If that is not worth a LOL, I surely dont know what is.
I especially love the: "Look, this is my last response"! Haaaaaaaahahaha
L stands for loser, old woman.
eggbertsmith 3 years ago
admittedly not having seen the movie i cannot say who is right or wrong but ceilingtracer has put forth a much more coherent and well supported argument than you and your attacks at his (or her) character/love life. id say you should quit while your behind and stop making yourself look worse. in this debate all points go to ceilingtracer and to quote a great "At no point in your rambling, did you even come close to an intelligent thought... I award you no points, may God have mercy on your soul"
stauqmuk 3 years ago
Soderberg's first definition was the right one, but because American and younger audiences cannot grasp these complex themes he made excuses. What he should have said was that most audiences are stupid. Now Natascha McElhone is in the U.K due to a death in her family (she played Rheya) I can email her but I doubt she will respond to such trivial matters.
lezxotic 3 years ago
what in the hell does being in the UK have to do with the ability to email someone? its called the World Wide Web for a reason, connecting people from all over the globe to a place where ideas and concepts can be shared. you can email Natascha McElhone from Uganda if you wanted.
stauqmuk 3 years ago
you are full of shit. there i said it. now give up, I won. and being american or young has nothing to do with it. stupidity transcends age and nationality. I love this movie but even i (and YOU) have to admit its not palatable for a wide audience.
ceilingtracer 3 years ago
What is your age? Look I have a Master's Degree in Knwledge Mananagement. I did not change anything. Clearly this issue is beyond you Junior intellect. Little boy why don't you study the principles of screenwritng I have and you will see who is full of shit. Now begone video boy who doesn't know shit about "Complexity."

What's so great about a woman showing you all what complete MORONS U Are? U really need to post something of substance or shut the frak up.
lezxotic 3 years ago
Frak? What the fuk is Frak? Oh ok same thing.
Settle down and get off your high horse, how about we all agree that this is a great film with an awesome music score and cast and be done with it. Interpret what you will from a quality film and move on ;)
OskaRusty 3 years ago
"Frak" is from Battlestar Gallactica BSG. It's a way of saying FUCK asshole! GODDAM YOU PEOPLE ARE SO FRAKKING STUPID IT 'S RIDICULOUS.
lezxotic 3 years ago
Wow - now with Caps!
OskaRusty 3 years ago
Settle down, little guy. How about a juice box? Now please calm yourself and tell us what all this rage is really about. Did mom say you have to stop playing WOW for a while? Sure, I bet some of us can (pretend to) understand what that must do to someone like yourself, lezxotic. But just remember, things could always be worse, right? Go tell your mom you love her, and that maybe you'll actually move out....perhaps when you are 30?
Take care, little soldier, and fight the good fight.
:-)
eggbertsmith 3 years ago
shuddup Oska, and stop insulting the highly accomplished lezxotic! Dont you know she has written half of the shows that you and I watch! We owe her a debt of gratitude!
Hail lezxotic, mental giant and screenwriter to the Gods!
.....not!
(silly loser lezxotic, get back to your day-job, at Burger King)
eggbertsmith 3 years ago
I saw the film more as an exploration of humanity and our perception of reality, almost in the vein of a Phillip K. Dick novel.
Rheya may be a copy, but she can still think and feel for herself and struggles with the existential quandary of living her own life vs. the mold of a life she was made from. Her existence is also dictated by Kris' memories of his wife, which may not be accurate. Her entire personality and supposed memories lie in the hands of another person.
Bluehawk2008 3 years ago
Love does play a role though, as Kris is not only confused by his love for the woman that is practically standing in front of him, but he is given the chance to reconcile the rift in their relationship that may or may not have led to her suicide - but as the copy develops an individuality, he realises that she's a different person. Can he then fall in love with a new individual, but one who so closely resembles his deceased spouse? Not an easy question for any man in his position to answer.
Bluehawk2008 3 years ago
Nice job. With the original trailer, it's clear Hollywood had no idea what to do with this brainy, low-key science fiction movie and was trying to pawn it off as "Aliens". Kudos to you.

Seeing this made me realize how movie trailers often BOMBARD people with high-speed imagery. I actually prefer a trailer like this. Nicely done.
svpotts 3 years ago 4
Wow, this is really good! However I agree that it is pacing slow. But good job!
GlitznSparkle88 3 years ago
Very well done. I thought the pacing was a bit slow for a trailer. Other than that, great!
