GB became a democracy LONG before the USA was even born! The Magna Carta was drawn up in the 13thC, removing the then arbitrary powers of the monarch by drawing up a bill of rights for the people, centuries later COPIED by us! It influenced the early New England settlers, inspiring later documents including our constitution. So, it was actually America that wanted to be like England!
BTW, Great Britain is merely an abbreviation of the earlier name "Greater Britannia."
@toonmag50 What are you talking about Toonmag, haven't you ever heard the phrase "the rights of all Englishmen"? Cause it was used a lot by men like George Washington, John Adams, Benjamen Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson to explain what exactly we were fighting for. The American Revolution was really an extension of the English revolution of 1215 and the English Civil War. But I admit this movie doesn't really teach anything about the Revolution other than that we won militarily.
@gil435345345345 -GB was run via a Parliamentary democracy-even during your war of independence. The Crown with George 3 were active, but it was Parliament who had the final say. You can dress this rebellion up in many ways, but it boils down to a free mason and French sponsored colonial war based on one elite replacing another
@toonmag50 conspiracy theories notwithstanding, the fact is yes GB was run via a parliamentary democracy, a parliament we had no hand in electing and it wasn't about the taxes being high, it was about us having no control over who was taxing us. It was about the sovereignty of all Englishmen, a soveriegnty King George III sought to deny all Englishmen living outside of England, and thus the Englishmen inhabiting the eastern seaboard of North America rebelled
English and or British dont rebel over nonsence issues-it was a simple issue of manipulation of the free masons and financial backing of the French ,both giving false promises.
@toonmag50 no it was the fact that we had to pay taxes to the government yet had no say in the running of that government. if we were allowed seats in parliament, we wouldn't have rebelled, period. Parliament denied us any representation while making us pay taxes, thus denying us our natural born rights as Englishmen, so we took those rights by force. The rest is history. God Bless America and God Bless England. Peace
@gil435345345345 -try looking at a little larger picture and investigate who sponsored the rebellion, who fought in the rebellion and who gained from it-
It would be interesting to see the American army fighting the full British army, considering they were fighting Napleon at the time, i think it would've been a different kettle of fish but good on the yanks, they chose the right time to strike and that was when the British army were pre-occupied with Bonaparte. What's interesting is it took 12 years to sign the declaraton of independence, because they were scared in case the British came back over and hung them for treason.
@mmtos28 I'm on about the fact of Britains intent to go over and reclaim back America until we started fighting Napoleon, you wouldn't of won if it wasn't for the French helping you anyway, like all of the wars you've been in you needed help to get the job done!
@JimiB1984 oh yes like in the Seven Years War in which Eggland managed to conquer New France, it was only able to do so because Frederick the Great was beating the French in Europe so that Britain can sneak behind and stab France in the back in North America. Even so, it took England 6 years to conquer New France despite outnumbering the French 20:1. brilliant performance.
Ha Ha the comments on here are still funny, people talking about red coats and British like they know em, well if your American, or Canadian good chance you have some Brit Ancestors and if your French...tough luck eh LOL
Puerto Rico IS part of Spanish history and WAS part of colonial Spain...are you so easily confused ?
Do you know that SAD is also used to describe someone who has seen over 11,000 videos on youtube in a matter of a few months..get a life boy and stop trying to be such a smart arse when you are clearly a numpty !
Puerto Rico WAS part of Spanish history. I have Puerto Rican relatives, and they love America as much as anybody... Its sad I have to give you a history lesson Micky. I shouldnt know better, but sadly for your sake, I do. Maybe one day, we can get some up to date text books for your country..."comprende";)
This is just a film clip what's with all the bickering ? The thirteen colonies were British and were inhabited by people mainly of British stock (immigrants), these people rebelled against British taxation -history -yes American history is part of British history as is Canada, Australia, South Africa etc so get over it !
Americans come from all over the world. And for British people to insist that were still part of the British history is ludicris. How many history textbooks in Britian are titled American History? I can tell you all of the text books here have their proper name. By saying that were part of your history is trying to restore some sembelance of imperial dominance.
I know Americans come from all over the world, I am insisting nothing and I am not talking about imperial dominance, that would be 'ludicrous'. You have jumped in on a comment about 'Anglo-American' history which is related to a 'fictitous' film about such ! What's your point ? Am I lying or twisting the truth or do you know better ?
"American history is part of British history as is Canada, Australia, South Africa etc so get over it!".. You are insisting that American history is part of British history. Those other countries mentioned were part of your empire. My point, our countries histories ended in 1783. Those other countries were part of your history until recently. By putting us in the same group, you are indirertly saying we are the same subservient colonial possessions, happy with British rule.
You are taking it out of context, the post I made was to question the general bickering in previous posts between different nationalities, given a certain history, maybe I did not need mention the other countries but my point is still the same - the 13 colonies were British, inhabited by people generally of British stock, the rest as they say is 'history' ! Have I posted anything factually incorrect ? If you like it or not the USA has significant historical links to the UK !
"Have I posted anything factually incorrect?"...Yes, we are not part of your history! We were part of British history from 1607 to 1783, and thats the end of it! Sometimes our histories would come together during the world wars, but in a general sense, our history links are broken!
Your argument is petty really, how do you break history links ? That is an interesting concept ! But your welcome to your point of view because just like mine in the grand scheme of things it means 'Fuck all'(That's 'nothing' to you, in case it get's lost in translation)...sorry I forgot you speak English don't you ! Have a nice day !
From 1607 to 1783 we were part of British history. We we no longer part of your empire after that, I cant explain it any simpler for you then that. American history began in 1776, and was assured in 1783. Those countries you mentioned before were part of your history because... they were still part of your empire! If you dont get it, then I cant help you, CHEERIO!
I don't/did'nt need an explanation or your help, like I said...'petty'....you jumped in and several posts later have made little or no point ! I like your black and white view of things..maybe when your older eh....!
Im your junior by 26 years, and you need me to give you a history lesson, sad. Bermuda is part of Britian, therefore part of British history. Puerto rico is American territory, therefore part of American history. Maybe youll understand "when your older eh"
Not forgetting one man taking down 10 Red Coats, without one getting a shot off or even making an attempt to really fight back and looking so scared, just running away screaming, because of course, us Brits are soft and only achieved an Empire through cups of tea and jolly good games of Cricket;) But of course, they must have been good enough to fend off French and Spanish armies to protect you colonists at the same time so you're not speaking French or Spanish now...unless you want too.
Haha kids outsmarting British Redcoats lmao, as if...God Bless Mel Gibson; us Brits really are the Devils Advocates arn't we? Haha; Hollywood is a joke :D
