GB became a democracy LONG before the USA was even born! The Magna Carta was drawn up in the 13thC, removing the then arbitrary powers of the monarch by drawing up a bill of rights for the people, centuries later COPIED by us! It influenced the early New England settlers, inspiring later documents including our constitution. So, it was actually America that wanted to be like England!

BTW, Great Britain is merely an abbreviation of the earlier name "Greater Britannia."

@toonmag50 What are you talking about Toonmag, haven't you ever heard the phrase "the rights of all Englishmen"? Cause it was used a lot by men like George Washington, John Adams, Benjamen Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson to explain what exactly we were fighting for. The American Revolution was really an extension of the English revolution of 1215 and the English Civil War. But I admit this movie doesn't really teach anything about the Revolution other than that we won militarily.

It was about the sovereignty of all Englishmen, a soveriegnty King George III sought to deny all Englishmen living outside of England, and thus the Englishmen inhabiting the eastern seaboard of North America rebelled

@toonmag50 no it was the fact that we had to pay taxes to the government yet had no say in the running of that government. if we were allowed seats in parliament, we wouldn't have rebelled, period. Parliament denied us any representation while making us pay taxes, thus denying us our natural born rights as Englishmen, so we took those rights by force. The rest is history. It would be interesting to see the American army fighting the full British army, considering they were fighting Napleon at the time, i think it would've been a different kettle of fish but good on the yanks, they chose the right time to strike and that was when the British army were pre-occupied with Bonaparte. What's interesting is it took 12 years to sign the declaraton of independence, because they were scared in case the British came back over and hung them for treason.

Even so, it took England 6 years to conquer New France despite outnumbering the French 20:1. brilliant performance.
