  • Isn't every take-off from a low level?

  • Joe wouldn't like that! (",)

  • Cool Planes and it's amazing that they are still in service but after watching Ice Pilots the owner of the company who know as Buffalo Joe should really be called Jack Ass Joe for the way e treats his employee's

  • @gullreefclub You wouldn't fit in, and incompetence isn't tolerated at places like that. Most airlines are happy to put up with it though.

  • @archer49d I never said I would fit in or want to work at Buffalo Airline's, I could never work for Buffalo Joe I don't like getting dressed down for something that no my fault and from what was shown on the television show that seemed common place besides the company is too far away from the ocean and far to North. The only time I like foing out when it cold and snowing is when I go hunting other than that I like Sunny and 70 and above

  • @gullreefclub Though I've never worked there I did work at another airline which has a show about it, everything you see there, assume the opposite is true, or better yet, just laugh at the nonsense. The producers do their best to make things seems more dramatic and outrageous than they are, though Buffalo is happily collecting plane loads of money to let them film it.

On a side note, quit acting so spoiled about the cold, you sound like my neighbors who think water freezes at 50.

  • @archer49d I have no doubt that Buffalo made some nice coin from the show. I also know the producers like to stretch the truth & or fabricate a story for the show. However if you watch any of these docudrama shows that are on TV today you can normally figure out what's true & whats made up.

PS I know water freezes at 32 F and worked in my fair share in the cold with plenty of snow & Ice, that why I prefer sunny & 70 & I still live where it snow in the winter & still keep trying to move south

  • what a beautiul bird. Think this is in Canada, right? You be if I could get the time off I' d go up there for a flight!!

  • The landscape is beautiful!!

  • Norman Wells?

  • Looks like Norman Wells NWT.

  • Now that is a pilot's aircraft they actually must fly and not a computer.

  • i wanna fly on that thing

  • ice pilots

  • That's an excellent piece of camerawork indeed!

I totally agree, old radial engines all have this unmistakeable distinctive sound but the coolest sounding of all, in my opinion, are the Pratt & Whitney R-2000's and the R-2800 Double Wasps.

Respect for this genuine old bird!

  • @1977niek I have a few videos of their C-46, featuring the awesome R-2800 soundtrack!

  • Bravo.

  • its a dc4

  • Its good that there still using old planes (with radial engines)

  • ! MUsic for my ears!!

Thank you very much for post and share this great video.

Planes like this should be declared National Treasures. ^^

  • I cant tell the difference between a DC4 and a DC6. Anyone else?

  • @mistersmith6000 They are close, but the DC-4 has round passenger windows while the DC-6 has square ones. One airline "updated' it's fleet in the 1950's by painting their DC-4 windows with a square look to give a more modern DC-6 look.

  • beautiful plane , awesme take off!

  • Valve guides on No-1 newed a look see.

  • A proven airframe, and 4 radials singing as richly as a church organ.

  • crazy

  • Nice sound

  • OMG Are These planes Still in Service for airline company'D xD

  • These PW Twin wasps have a unique sound, definately different from the big 2800's and Wright 3350's.

    They're all awesome!

  • Amazing! 5/5

  • what a rush that was..............i still have goosebumps

  • great looking ship!

  • beatiful

  • Whoo_HOO!! Great Video!! Love the sound of Prop's. :) :) :)

  • beautiful plane

  • The cargo version is a C-54

  • could be a dc7 too....but it is dc4

  • @haloha3

yep DC 4....Dc7 had much more powerful engines and was stretched a bit. Max speed 406 mph

  • DC-7 was the worlds best 3 engine A/C at that time :)

(One engine was almost always INOP at landing)

    :)

  • Nice video Anson! With the new show about Buffalo coming along, you're gonna get a lot more hits!

  • Isn't that a DC-6

  • No.

  • Crazy!

  • @joefacc the dc-6 is shorter

  • Wow cycling the gear while still in ground effect. Stunning video thanks!

  • It is eerie looking isn't it. I was thinking the same thing.

  • i dont know how to rate but i give this video a 100% exelent rating !

  • Sorry,I clicked on the wrong hand.I wanted to give it a plus now I dunno how to change it.

  • a cuantos kilometros por hora vuela esa hermosa nave?

  • Planes sounds FTW

  • love thet sound

  • @1bearcatf8f ITS THAT NOT THET

  • Man, that guy pulled the wheels up when he was 2 feet off the ground.... Cool plane...

  • your meant to do that :D

  • I love that sound, now. Not so much when I was a kid in the 60's. There was an airway right over my house and every night I'd hear one fly over and think it was going to crash into the house! Not knowing anything about the doppler effect, I thought the sound after it passed was the sound of it falling toward me.

  • Nice footage.I love the sound the old radials have.Old prop driven planes are so cool.Convairs,Constellations,DC3's and 6's are a few of the commercial favorites. Thanks for the show.

  • @koonasplymouth

    Ground effect kicks ass!

  • @koonasplymouth not to mention nicer inside than todays jets

  • Too bad about the wind noise as the aircraft passes and recedes. Those 18 cylinder radials make for a powerful piece of music! You are lucky to be able to get these wonderful videos of this wonderful airplane! Keep shooting them!!

  • 5 stars

  • Beutifull take off!

  • Where is this airport located?

  • It's a DC-4. The sound of the engines is the clue. That is the sound of 14-cylinder radials. The DC-6 has 18 cylinder radials. Type in DC-6 and click on any DC-6 take off clip to tell the difference in sound.

  • you're dead right. If people knew their planes...they'd know the sound of the R-2000 over the R-2800....

  • LOL your absalutely right.... The CL-215s have R-2000s also, I hear them almost every week. and sometimes C-46s fly over. they have a different sound for sure.

  • If the CL-215 is the Canadair CL-215, they actually have R-2800 18 cylinder radials on them. Weird, but true. The Cl-215 sounds like a Douglas A-26 Invader, has the same engines.

  • But if the CO-9887 were to be mixed with the CD-9887, the EA-9877 would be awesome

  • Yes! This is definately in firing patterns of nine! VERY distinctive sound! I am confused here...to me the DC6 sounds like 14 cylinders, NOT 18.

  • YAY BUFFALO!!! Northern Airlines FTW!!!

  • dc 6 guys square windows and prop spinners

  • I believe that this aircraft is a DC-6 or 7?

  • No, it is a C-54 (DC-4).

  • Always great to see these old Douglas birds still flying & earning their keep...many will still be flying long after a lot of us "expire". KUDOS to outfits like Buffalo Airways & Roger Brooks of Brooks Fuel. KEEP "EM FLYING GUYS !!!

  • magnifico avion

  • Superb.

  • They are awesome to watch, I've been asked by newcomers to YK, re:Buffalo Hangar, is that a museum? I had the pleasure of being a passenger a couple years back in a DC-3 to Diavik Mine, we were just inches above the clouds the whole flight, what a ride man!

  • Sheer magic!!! Those Pratts certainly GROWL!! Sorry, you can keep your modern tin. This is classic aviation. And a gear-up lift-off takes a lot of nerve, especially in that wind!!

  • Time to upgrade aircraft.

  • They've purchased two Electras, but the DC-3s and -4s are still serving them well.

  • Yes.. when they arent sitting at the end of the runway in a ditch.

  • It happens! Even to modern aircraft.

  • I agree, however, if the braking system doesnt work which has been the case with a few, then in my opinon that aircraft should be sitting in the scrap yard.

  • I said that about that A340-600 up in Canada about a year ago.

  • I checked online after I made the comment and yes, C-118 is a DC-6. These days that's got to be an expensive show for the friends:)

  • super! I returned from Europe on an air force C-118 but I don't know if that was DC-6 or 7. Certainly not DC-4. This was great to see and didn't know any were around.

  • Search Google and Wikipedia for Buffalo Airways. They keep the old iron in the skies and keep the avgas flowing up north!

  • Awesome machine...

  • Excellent video. I live high in a condo in Yellowknife and love watching these beasts come flying by at eye level.

  • beauty t/o

  • I love the sound!

  • CG-PSH is the frick'n coolest

  • you buffalo guys are nuts. And I would know lol (gimli 06 tanker base)

  • Wow did Norman Wells get resurfaced?

  • Yep, summer 2006, apron expansion, all new runway and taxiway surfaces.
