If anything, you should be against the policy that disallows encampments/occupation, rather than the police who enforced this policy in a non-brutal manner.

Using batons to PUSH people away is humane and it is what they should be doing. They should never need to do anything more than that unless actually threatened.

If the city let protesters peacefully assemble (which everyone has the right to do) then there wouldn't be bad press about cops beating protesters and there wouldn't be an issue to begin with. The city is making its own problems and needs to back off. In Berkeley and Oakland of all places there is police brutality when only 50 years ago it was famous for its protests and free speech.
