Does anyone here have an Xbox 360 Elite with Jasper motheroard, Lite-on drive & DC-brushless fans that makes a grinding-like noise when playing DVDs ? It sounds just like the disc is hitting the lens or something like that. Can anyone help me ?

@Dvizex Silver tray hasnothing to do with it I think that the arcades (white trays) got the lite-ons a few months before the silver trays did.

@kilhler11  Some are noisy some are quiet i was lucky mine insn't too loud, if you just bought it take it back and get another or if its still in warranty call Microsoft up and tell them its too loud and they should replace the drive.

no it is hackable just another way , and no hardmod tough :D , but i think it was a little bit harder , well you may flash the lite-on or any other drive with ixtreme but better wait for ixtreme LT (lite touch) , cuz the ban wave is going on , and tjhey found a new way for checking if the drive is modded(flashed) or not , some people who didn't mod they're xbox 360's still got banned don't know why , just strange , they won't unban a modded 360 , but they will for a unmodded one i think)

how can you tell what kind of drive your xbox 360 has?

Google the shapes of the disc drives. Each one looks different, except for benq and lite on, which look the same. To tell the difference between those, take the faceplate off. There should be a small hole you can almost stick an eraser into below the disc drive, on the right side(when horizontal). Get a flashlight and look inside. If there is a white wire in there, its a benq. If the wire is yellow, its a lite on. There are a few holes in there with wires inside, make sure you got the right one.

my xbox 360 has a liteon and on powerup it makes that exact same noise is that a fault or isit meant to to that it dont scratch dvds but on console power up or when i insert a dvd it makes the exact same noise as it does at 1 : 08

Depends which drive you get, I got a benq that was allmost as loud as a Hitachi, and my friend has one that is quiet. Same with lite on some are loud and some are quiet.

To be honest, Lite-Ons are pritty much the same as benq but with diffrent chips. They are both hackable. The hitatchi is extremley load and fualty. The benq is quieter but in some cases scratches discs. My lite on has been the quietest and fastest loading so far. No scratches yet. Going goood :D

You definatly have a lite on drive my MFR is 2008-10-08 couldnt find a newer one in store and it has a Lite on just shine a flashlight in the hole and you should have one yellow wire and the rest white.

The reason I bought a liteon drive is becouse the benq and Hitachi were to loud, the benq wasnt a litle quieter than the Hitachi but not much so I took the benq back and told them it was broken and I went to EB and got a lite on.
