F? Interesting - not generally a jammer's favorite key on guitar. Of course, old guys like me will remember, say, "Honkey Tonk Pt. 1" by Bill Doggett. I always figured that was partially to accomodate the sax man to follow.
The descending chords (Ab-G-Gb-F) always remind me of the pattern from "Coming Home."
Great respect for Jim Hall (like him so much), however to my mind Frisell is one of the most amazing and original artists ever. He can mix jazz, blues, bluegrass, folk all together. All that with true delicacy and feeling!
By the way there is a great documentary about Bill here on the YT.
Moving away from guitarist-guitarist comparisons, I think Frisell's style is very similar to Thelonious Monk's in many ways - musically I mean obviously!
@matthewhenson1 Michael Tsarion is the worlds premier conspiracy researcher/lecturer/author. Dr. Bill DEagle, Jordan Maxwell, Leo Zagami and Alexandre Dumas pere are highly informative as well. p.s. Melting Euphoria is similar to Ozric Tentaclnes and Gong.
This is like the first time i've heard Jim Hall play anything really close to fusion, He's just so amazing, and what is he like a hundred? He still got the funk in him.
Jim hall is a "musician's musician" that everyone from Metheney to scofield mention often. He is one of the more versatile of guitarists out there and has been for a REALLY long time. He's great! Of course frisell is great too.
Don't disrespect Bill frisell or we'll be smelling the perfume of a critics burning flesh. I'm not sure who that other guy is but he's pretty good too!

"I can't enjoy this because I'm expending too much energy worrying about which one 'wins.'"
You "win" at music simply by playing. You can't "beat" other people... it's not Guitar Hero.
