UCONN knocked duke senseless in this one.......this was a duke team filled with talent...but sometimes it takes more than talent to win, it takes heart.....and Uconn clearly had more of that than duke did on this particular nite.......It wasnt all bad for Dook though, just 2 years later they would whip up on Arizona to claim their 3rd title in a decade.

Still are the best. Tired of hearing how good UNC is, yes they're good but very inconsistent. All the analyst believe that UNC in #1 when they play their best and I agree. But do you really believe they can win all their games in the tournament playing their best every game? Or will they play like they played against Maryland, BC, and Wake?

Duke fan. Too bad. We were on par to have one of the great teams of all time. The out of conference scheldule was tough but the ACC was down that year, Duke rarely tested , this was probably their undoing. Coach K gets a little overconfident at times he still my dude though shoulda called a TO with a team of freshmen and sophs except Langdon big ups to Calhoun though he is a great coach this was one of the greatest seasons ever a lot happened same year KY came from 31 down to beat LSU

Man, I was so pumped that UCONN beat DUKE in this FINAL, a great game. RICKY MOORE (did he ever play in the NBA?) shutting down T.LANGDON. This was truly a heavyweight battle between two great teams. The truth is some of the best NCAA TOURNEY games has been played between UCONN/DUKE (90, 99, 04)

This video nearly brought me to tears today.

But you really can see how emotional all the players are after the win, particularly seniors Jones (cradling the ball in slo mo) and Ricky (laughing and smiling blissfully into the crowd)...I think it had a lot to do with the adversity the team faced and overcame during the 1996-97 season.

Anyway, I want more videos of this game on youtube. maybe i'll have to digitize the darn tape myself!

wow.. this brings back some of the best memories of my life. I was a freshman at Uconn in 1999 and drove down to the game in St. Petersburg with 7 other guys in a mini van..lol. By far one of the best weekends of my life. Unlike some of Uconn's other teams, this team CAME TO PLAY. I'd like to find a video of El Amin's behind the back pass against Ohio St in the final 4 too. Anyways.. will never forget this.

i can't remember the year but it must have been 1996. uconn over georgetown in the big east final or some such game. where ray allen made that free-throw line extended jumper. and then jerome williams missed two point-blank lay-ups to end the game.

i remember iverson dominating the game early and then calhoun put ricky moore on him and we clawed back behind moore.

i think the 1998 Buzzer Shot was the best game in Uconn History but this is up there. After people thought that Uconn didnt stand a chance, i loved to be able to sit at my house and almost burst out into tears after watching Uconn make the upset of the century

Yea, Thats My Team Baby. I have lived in CT all of my life, and i am 14 right now. I remember i was 7 years old and i kept asking my parents if i could stay up and watch the game. My house was filled with duke fans (my parents friends) and when they lost i was the only one celebrating and i remember how i felt when i saw them celebrating.

UConn pissed me off with this, but at least Duke won it all a couple years after the '99 final. I was in Tampa Bay too but I went the week after the game when the rates went down for lodging. Had to get a Final 4 shirt..LOL

Being the only kid in my school who was a UConn fan and surrounded by a bunch of far-weathered Duke fans, this victory was absolutely sweet. Hamilton, Ricky Moore, Kevin Freeman, Jake Voskuhl, El-Amin, Albert Mourning, Edmund Saunders, and my favorite Soloman Wane... What a great championship team. Wish the '06 team could of experience this great moment.

by no means am i taking credit lol, but ever since my family moved to uconn in '93 and i became a fan uconn's been a great team.

started with donny and donyell marshall, rick fair, kirk king, doron sheffer, travis knight and we've never dropped off. from those guys to ray allen, rip hamilton, ricky moore, el amin, caron butler, okafor, gordon, villaneuva, gay, marcus williams! go huskies!

and on the women's side who still remembers rebecca lobo, kara walters, jen rizotti?!

Having lived in CT for much of my childhood, there was no team to root for. I was not a hockey fan, so it didn't upset me when the Hartford Whalers relocated to Carolina.

But I started following UConn basketball, and the kicker for me was around the time they won the NIT. Of course Tate George's last second shot in the Big Dance solidified my allegiance.

yeah! this team reminds me so much of the team in 02-03 that barely lost to maryland in the elite 8. led by caron butler with okafor/gordon when they were freshman.

this year's class is even more talented, sure we don't have a caron butler yet. but marcus johnson will hopefully turn into the rip/ray/caron/ben type of scorer. only difference i see is that we have more depth than that team.
