@tennesseejed69 how well i know what you mean to say.. for instance i miss the '60's so much i'm sort of still "there" and i'm 61 years old! we'll never leave the past to be in the present! you and i are waiting to see Jerry (the band) and all our loved ones in the hereafter, where it'll be like always.
Winterland was a trip. This version is beautiful. I wasn't there for this one but was there in 3-18-19-20 1977 Now those nights were GGGREAT I was in the Army in Europe but came home on leave to see those shows. I missed 1978s My first shows were 10-18-19-20 1974 at Winterland POST and STEINER talk to me if you need to verify!
Please don't say you where @ the Winterland. If you say you where there, let me question you. I love that place(Geary & Fillmore) Their are $mill apts there now. I remember when they came with that show the Acid being past around where like pyramids. There will never Wonderland. After Winterland we went to Oakland, then The Shoreline
i dont think i have ever not fallen in love with a Grateful Dead song. sometimes i think "oh i will skip to my favourites" but then the song starts and i end up listening to it all and thinking its purely amazing...
I think Donna is great-she adds so much to this song check 5-11-77 St. Paul CC Arena. Great version. I'll never forget opening Steal Your Face way back-when I saw her photo in the tank top-forgetaboutit. I was in love.
while this isnt my favorite, i do like this song. bob and donna do great vocals and ive always liked jerrys lead and solo on this. beautifully done song. i know some out there complain about donna. well she was good. and, for the record, they all had off nights. they werent perfect. they enjoyed what they were doing and ive enjoyed them too.
I'm getting really tired of people trashing Donna. There are shows where each and every member of the Dead have had off nights, flat, not holding notes etc. Where are those criticisms? If you think that Donna is off on this song you are utterly tone deaf, and really should not be publicly evaluating these posts. You make yourself sound musically illiterate. If you don't like the arrangement, that is purely taste, but don't say she is off key. Lastly always remember these mixes aren't prof qualit
Brings a tear to you're eye...What I wouldn't give to be able to turn back time!! Epic Dead!!

@rblodget According Phil it was because she and Keith were getting divorced and she wasn;t making the rehearsals.

Hafta say Donna sounds pretty bad on close listening. Warbling and wandering on her notes, not even hitting some. Pity. It's my favorite Dead tune...

@howardsd1 Donna's voice was great. But around 1978, '79, she began to get kinda off-key and not very good. So you're half-right.
