  • Hello bomberguy

In 1937 there was a gliding competition in Elmira, were Lithuanian pilots ( B.Oskinis and J.Pyragius) had participate. They went with two gliders Minimoe Birzietis and Lithuanian construction glider Bro-5 "Ruta"

I am interested if there was someone filming this event ( "Ruta" was aerobatic glider, so it showed aerobatics in Elmira) I am searching for the video of this event.

  • Hi Ed,

thank you very much for the wonderful old movies! I'm a glider pilot and flight instructor here in Germany. It is very intersting to see how gliders and other motorpowered planes have been flown in the past!

Thanks a lot for your work and passion!

    Happy new year 2009!

    Lupo

  • @lupo631 Kronfeld had to leave Germany because of Nazi persecution. He was in the RAF during the war.

  • @goatface1000: I know that.

    Lupo

  • @lupo631 His son used to fly at Lasham. The Nazis could not tolerate a Jew being the best glider pilot

  • @goatface1000 as you can read at the Wikipedia

  • @lupo631 I did not read it on Wikipedia, I already knew. What gliders do you fly and instruct on?

  • Bungee launching - neat to see.

  • Man its changed sooooo much.....

  • From 4:32 to about 5:00 you can see some very early B-17's. They appear to be Y1B-17A's, the earliest of the early. Best picture is at 4:50. Very neat to see early soaring, too.
