  • for me this raag iz sad from deepness of my soul

  • Yes, Good intro.

  • thank you for this very informative!

  • nachiketa sir i really imressed you, your voice is bold as bomb dhamaka, pls hume gur sikhiye na

  • MashaAllah!, you have an excellent voice and the knowledge, the simple way you have explained the raga Yaman is easily comprehendable for rookies like me.. however, the video is too short,.. I wish you can post a more detailed video which could be in several parts..thanks again for posting your video...

  • @shads24 where is the link to the article?

  • For NinjaPiratePenguin who said he sounds mentally retarded, all that can be said is that you evidently are not pitch sensitive enough to distinguish notes, else you could not fail to appreciate the accuracy of his notes. These notes may not be exactly what's on the Western Piano, but they are much more accurate to the natural scale that exists in nature. Notice the steadiness of how the notes are held (without vibrato) while western music falls on the crutch of vibrato to disguise defects.

  • Does anyone know which video continues the lesson? Is there following from this at all? Someone please post the link.

  • are you indian? if not, then you wouldn't be expected to understand. But if you've ever heard music from anywhere else in the world (other than traditional western music) then you'd notice it all sounds 'retarded'.

If you ARE indian, and you're saying that, then YOU'RE the one who's retarded. He sounds odd because his voice emulates the musical instrument rather than what we think a singing voice should sound like (which is logical since we know that musical instruments are in tune).

  • @NinjaPiratePenguin shut up retard.

  • @NinjaPiratePenguin -- SO are you.

  • Gr8 Video brother , very informative for beginners like me

  • @anantavijayguha I rather enjoy nasal tone; hear khansaheb abdul karim khan; in light music - hear Md Rafi saab;

  • beautiful presentation.

  • This was very nicely done. Thanks.

  • Yaman or Aiman is not an ancient truly, it is invented by Hazrat Amir Khusro, So probably 500 - 600 years.

  • @rogwall

Yaman derives from the word Yamuna. It is the north Indian adaptation of the Carnatic Raga Kalyani, which has existed since time immemorial. Amir Khusrau was a great persian scholar of Indic Tradition. It may be true that he improvised a little upon Raga Kalyani to give Yaman its modern form.

He was a great devotee of Shiva. His famous bhajan "Mahadev Maheshwara" in Raga Bhupali rendered by Bade Ghulam Ali Khan is modern times speaks of the genius of this great stalwart.

  • @sapu1988 Hey man that Infomation was really good.

    Doing g8 work

  • @rogwall

ur talking like u were there when it was created. 500-600 years old music is not old?

  • Very instructive and full of examples. Thanks for uploading the video.

  • Super presentation

  • Very nice presentation on the raaga. DO you have a full version of this? I am very keen to see ot listen to it. All of classical music starters will benefit from clips like this. DO you have more on other raagas? Thanks again.

  • These kind of videos are very instructive for western people that are at the begining of Indian Classical music path, if yo have the rest of the demonstration please post it. i´ll send it to my stdents. thank yo very much

  • Wonderfull singer and what a voice !

  • very good

  • I agree, Yaman or Aiman or Imon is not ancient. Probably the others are confusing it with Raga Kalyan.

  • Yes, in fact Yaman is not a Thaat Raga, it is an Ashraya Raga of the Kalyan Thaat.

  • Exellent demonstration of raag Yaman which introduces the Tivra M or sharp M. Rest of the notes are all sudha notes. Please post all the other 9 thaat demos.

  • Very nice introduction for the Raag. I appreciate it. Please post similar videos for other raags also.

  • Thank you for your introduction. Please keep up the good work.

  • no. it's ancient.

  • It is at least as old as Amir Khusro, if not older... so it goes back to ~1300.

  • great introduction, would love to see this for other ragas!! thanks!

  • This was an awesome post! Thank you for the awesome demonstration! I am going to use it in my class tomorrow!

  • Thank you somuch for the information. Don`t pay heed to any stupid comments and please let us know the beauty of hindustani music. Thanks again. Keep it up. May god bless you.

  • Mora Saiyan from Fuzon is based on Raga Khamaj... which is a different thaat altogether.

Raga Yaman is one of the oldest raga in Indian Classical Music tracing back to the vedic ages. It has both the Shanta Rasa and The sringhar Rasa. Shanta rasa supports the religious mood. and the sringhar rasa supports the love songs.

  • It is also important to note that music based on the Sringhar rasa existed even during the Gupta period - the time when the Kamasutra was written.

Hazrat Amir Khusroo was instrumental in modifying a lot of ragas including the ragas of Kalyan Thaat - the Thaat on which Yaman is based.

  • beautiful

  • brother said that no one knows how ancient is raag yaman...let me tell you this is nearly over 400 years old and HAZRAT AMEER KHUSRO put this raag in indian music from irani music with some major modifications and the first indian traditional composition on yaman is CHAAP TILAK SAB CHEEN LI by HAZRAT AMEER KHUSRO.the experts usually sing this raag with minimum use of pancham(fifth note)thats the main beauty of this raag.

  • Please do correct your sentence... Iran did not exist at the time, it was either Khorasan at the time or Ariana, which was under the influence of present Afghanistan. Current Irani music has been influence by arabic or western music, as for Afghani music it has been much influenced by the Indian music. thank you.

  • thank you brother Zeemiceter for correcting me,you are definately right,i dont know the history of iran so i used the CURRENT REGION,i hope you will understand what i mean.god blesss you brother.

  • these raags origin is in the vedas which are eternal

  • How can you say so when the music of the Vedas is lost? The tunes to the ancient hymns, as in the Sama Veda (Veda of Music), were called Sama Gana. In fact the word Raga first appears in a treatise called Brihaddeshi by Matanga. Even in those days, it is believed, that the meaning of the term was not as it is today.

  • As far as I knew Chap Tilak Sab Cheen Li is based on Rag Bihag.. Ofcourse I have heard the version of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan sahab.... And that one is clearly a Bihag representation..

  • this is awesome Oo! i want to hear more, can you tell me some well known indian musical group or something?

  • You can try out the renditions of Ustad Rashid Khan(Vocal), and Ustad Vilayat Khan (Sitar), Ustad Ali Akbar Khan (Sarod)- available in youtube. hope this helps
