  • This has me crying every time I see it. So sad he's no longer with Edward Gal, best team EVER in the Netherlands. Amazing horse and sure he's not perfect, but he's so engaging and such an athlete.

  • hind legs... not engaged... this will soon go out of fashion once classical dressage overcomes modern flashiness

  • i love dis i SAW IT ON HORSE AND COUNTRY HES CLASS LOVE DA STALLION

  • Breathtaking!

  • lame

  • Amazing horse, but he don't engaged his hind legs enough because of rollkur.

  • it would be a pain the butt (literally) to sit that trot! he has such a step if you let him i bet!

  • I just ENJOY this horse, never mind his hind quarters or whatever. Im just glad another FREAK is showing around !

  • he is a gorgous horse!

  • helvetesjäklar!! vilken häst!!!

  • the lead changes at 4:07 are amazing

  • gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous horse!!!!!! what an amazing ride! this horse is a wonderful mover with a bunch of style. i cannot believe some people are comparing his movement to that of a gaited horse, these people need to take a closer look and learn a thing or two about dressage and how the movements are to be executed. obviously this horse is doing something right to have recieved the highest score in grand prix dressage history.

  • hmm, don't like this type of movement, this horse looks gaited, not my cup of tea

  • That's amazing!

  • This horse is amazing. You can't have a horse with a relaxed walk, perfect piaffe, or perfect passage if it is not ridden through and correct. His amazing front end movement is a result of his genetics and freedom of shoulder. By the way, my trainer is Anky's best friend- Salinero has never been trained in chains. If more people were able to ride the hot horses she does- they would win too. Edward is a true horseman on an amazing animal- we should all be so graced to witness this ride.

  • Ahhh yes, but according to the FEI rules in the extended trot his hind legs and front legs should reach forward equally and his whole frame should lengthen - it does not. This is probably due to the Rollkur training which makes it impossible for the horse to track up correctly.

  • this is amazing! i have seen this routine 3 times today but i can't get enoug of it!

  • thats awesome :P :D

  • That horse is beautiful..! And Edward know just how to handle him. Just saw him break a worldrecord att the Tv. When he was in England at EM. Im not really able to describe that horse right, he's so damn lovely..! Like taken from a fairytale.

  • He's doing a free walk at that point

What a gorgeous moving horse with a fantastic front end. WOW! I got shivers from watching this it's so beautiful and extremely well ridden!

  • Hi everyone. I would be interested to hear some analysing comments about what is happening at min 2:49.

  • That's the point of transition from collected walk to extended walk. For that the horse needs more length in th neck. It's not as littlegaspo say free walk, that's not even an official walk is these tests.

  • I'm writing dressage test since my 15th and i can say that edward shows how the extended ans collected trot are supposed to be done. The meaning in expending is: the horse has to keep the same pas but only make longer strides (so not faster)and step over it's front prints. Colledted means: the horse has to move in the same pas ( not slower) but may not step over his front prints.

    BTW i love the teamwork

  • I just hope everyone reads _Tug of War_ by German vet/rider Gerd Heuschmann.

  • it is ironic, that people who say dressage should NOT be only about flashy front legs, dont seem to be able to see beyond the flashy front them selves.... I think it shows a lack of ability to watch deeper than surface.

There is so much more to this performance than the horses gaits, what about the balance and power which he shows in f. example transitions and piaffe? What about his energy, obediense, softness, his accuracy??

Surely this is great stuff, with or without flashy front....

  • - that's just it, his now flashy movement has been created by Rollkur training - proved by the fact that his hindquarters do not extend forward as much as his front end. If you saw this horse loose without a rider, he would not force his front legs up as he now does - in fact in his earlier training he did not do this ... proof that the Rollkur training has strengthened the muscles of his shoulders and lower nect, but not the back end.

  • im not saying that i like this way of going, honestly if i had i proper chance to express the same concerns as you guys to these riders faces i would..

  • lol no surprise there: everyones getting their knickers in a knot about the way this horse moves and why, you'd think by now trainers and riders would stop what they're doing wrong by now? but no so really why bother critisising something that most likely isn't going to change anytime soon. leave it to the other experts, pros or trainers who are riding right to speak up im sure Edward Gal is aware that people don't like his way of riding but does it look like he's going to change?

  • ta para jest fenomenalna !

    piękny widok ; ))

  • He is a Dutch Warmblood. Has nothing to do with gaited horses. I would love to see one of you train and ride a horse to this level - then I would like to hear your comments about his movement and training. This horse is obviously happy, well-trained and well-ridden. That's why he's winning.

  • The extended gaits are up but not forward. It almost looks unnatural. How was he trained he looks like a gaited horse.

  • What a spectacular horse. Steffen and Ravel need to WATCH OUT!!! :-)

  • Beautiful!

  • The gaits of this horse are NOT natural. There are too many similarities with Salinero and Salinero was trained in trott with chain hoists, so i don't believe that this horse is well educated. If you compare other Videos of this horse you can see that this stallion doesn't have such an impressive trott...

  • Salinero II and as usual, he wins.

  • WOW!! :D :D

  • spell-binding 6.20 minutes of awesome horse and rider as one ... wow

  • so many dressage experts out there... I'm sure if you spend years training a horse to achieve this outcome you would FULLY appreciate just what you have witnessed. Pure elegance and horsemanship at its very best.

  • well lets face it , if the horse is 9, he has only been training for 5 years. yes, there are many experts that agree this is not classical riding.

  • Very impressive ride. My only negative would be that I personally feel that the horse is held a bit too tight and short upfront. If Edward could still keep him contained with his seat (that's a LOT of power being generated in that horse) with a little longer rein the extended trot would be less flamboyant in the front legs (to match the hind), the canter changes would be more jumping through from behind, and his back would be a little softer. Other than that...very precise and techincal :)

  • OMG :O

  • OMG!

    that´s really amazing!

i really want to see that horse live! <3

  • Mh i don't agree with you because i can't see a horse friendly education. The neck is hard and he doesn't strech his trott like an Ahlerich or else...

  • I think you all should watch the Video of Klimke an Ahlerich in New York, there you can see an amazing horse and an amazing rider!!!!!

  • i completely agree, this looks like gaited horses have made their way to Europe. all knee snatching and no hind end in the trot extensions.

  • I took the offical footage at Hickstead and have been editing it for a DVD for some days. You have seen nothing yet! The communication between horse and rider in the off-cuts is lovely. The core thing to watch is the way Edward works with this animal - his quietness, attention, and position, he is master of his art and with another rider would not perform as well. Anky ..... you better watch-out this combination is going to pulverise you in the Europeans!

  • Wow *w*

  • Oh. My. God. ;_;

  • la repris no es para un 89% es mas para un 82 %

  • well done

  • That was up there with Andres Helgstrand and Blue Hors Matinee in the WEG 2006 Freestyle.

    Beautiful, expressive, and brilliant.

    That extended trot was amazing.

  • lol. technically it excedes both of those rides. this is the highest score ever recieved in grand prix level dressage.

  • Ach ! W pasażach jest idealny, po prostu idealny ...

  • i was a runner this day at hickstead it was simply a privialige to be in the presence of a horse that got 5 10's in a row

  • Amazing, and edward is such a brilliant rider, can imagine it to be very difficult to sit to totilas dynamic trot!!!

  • Beautiful to watch because they are so in harmony.. that horse just makes every movement look effortless! And great, fitting choice of music for the canter work 4:07 - 5:24!

  • What a truely amazing combination these two are. A real privledge to be ble to see them on You Tube - modern techknowledgy is great and makes the world much smaller place!! ALL THE VERY BEST TO EDWARD AND TORTILIS "from down under".

  • woah!!! =O is all i can sayy!!

  • Out of this world!!! What an incredible horse and Edward knows how to show it all off!!!

  • WoooW , Fantastic !!

  • Soooooo beautiful.

The horse is so expressive and well ridden

  • wow! that was awe inspiring.....beautiful. & what a great display of a top dressage horse actually enjoying himself. perfect :)

  • Awesome! incredible, i've got no words for this, it's such a great performance, unbelieveable !!

  • WOW! Truly amazing, so beautiful to watch! Thank you

  • Just stunning, talk about elevation!

  • What an excellent rider/horse combination. Such flexion...Piaffe was right on... that's what happens when a happy and athletic horse is well taken care of; it performs well. This horse you can tell, really loves its job.... OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE!!

  • I do that every morning as my horses warm up.

  • nice piaffe

  • Fantastic!

  • thank you for adding!

  • This is one of the best examples I've seen of truly perfect equestrian harmony in a long, long time.

  • OMG . Just WOW ! that is dressage at it's very very best

  • wow wow wow never ever seen anything like it,FANTASTIC

  • i recorded this too! although its on my friends camera, so she uploaded it onto her youtube account. this one is better quality though =) amazing to be there and be so close to him! x
