How to Divide a Clumping Bamboo

I bought two black bamboo plants(clump). These people advise me to place the roots Into a bucket of water for couple of weeks b4 planting. What is yur thought on that please?

@wolfxinstein I wouldn't recommend that for bamboo. Maybe soaking overnight, but not for two weeks.
