Tammy jo Tammy jo Tammy jo first off, let me say I look forward to seeing all your videos and Im sure I will learn lots of stuff. But I dont want to hear the wheel"We would rather injoy hearing you so If you could whistle or sing us a tune lol that would be much better than listening to the wheel or maybe some of tunes simon has been playing lol..Thank you for doing this this is fun for all of us love Linda.
@baileyslip LOL..Thank you, thank you so much for saying this! I'll tell ya, when I 1st started filming I wanted to listen to my music, but chopped (edited) them up so much for time I thought it would be annoying. I ALWAYS listen to music off camera! Since I don't edit the middle of a throw anymore I should probably turn the mp3 back on! (Talking during throwing I'll have to think about..what if it's a great throw and I say something stupid...can't cut that out ya know.) LOL
I think what you are doing is great for being committed to making pottery and to improve your skill level. A gentle smoothing of the lip with a wet shammy is something I've started doing on all my work... really makes a difference in the final pot. I'll be watching! Regards, Janice
@janicethepotter I appreciate that Janice, I do want to improve...love working with clay. A funny story about the shammy...I've purchased them (who knows how many) but for some reason they get lost before they ever make it to my shop! I agree, they ARE wonderful...I'll have to buy another and maybe will take my video camera along as proof :)
Gotcha on the base trim, thanks :) ! I finally bit the bullet and when Lynn suggested cutting my sponge in half I just attached the other 1/2 of the sponge to a chop stick...took like 5 seconds...you'll see it appearing briefly for the Day #5 vlog!
Really fun watching. Hey if you insist on throwing with a sponge, you may like to cut that basic round one in half the flat way, making 2 round slices half the thickness. Serrated knife works great. If you "need" a sponge to throw with, I assume it's to help with moisture? Slowing the wheel down will help the clay not dry out quite so fast. I prefer to feel my wall thickness with bare hands.
@ThatLynnGirl Thanks so much Lynn great suggestion! I'm a few days ahead and I took your very suggestion and cut my sponges in half. Worked out really well...I guess it will be like a smoker trying to quit..I'll wean myself off of th sponge..lol!
Cup #1 - I'd love some expresso... how about Temuko. Small dark brown shiny expresso cup... Janice

Ya, more like that around the base. I finally tied a piece of sponge to a chop stick for picking up water inside a tight cylinder.
