I played one of these flutes in Band Shop a couple months ago and fell in love with it. I play C Flute and I like low notes better than high notes and find them easier to play. I loved playing this and want to get one soon.
I love the sound of the alto flute (it's keyed in G by the way, not in C). The only problem I have with it is that I HAVE to play with a curved head joint, like on a bass flute. With the straight head joint, the stretch on the right hand pinky and ring fingers is very painful.
Umm you sound great and all but flute was only supposed to be tipped verry little. That was at a horrible angle. You were good though just thought I would say that. I didnt mean any disrespect.
How would this compare to the gold-plated Yamaha model? It sounds absolutely beautiful in clarity and richness! Everyone is dying to know how much it costs.
@afrerose1 The brighter sound would be due to the harder nickel plating. We found that Jazz players prefer this sound and have kept the model as a nice contrast to a solid silver and silver plated models.
The black –nickel-plated alto flute has a brighter sound than the silver-plated model. This flute is usually the preferred choice of the jazz artists or the saxophone player who doubles on the flute as it is a very open sounding instrument and easy to play. In our experience the more classically trained flute player has preferred the standard silver-plated model, however there are signs that even these players are now buying the black-nickel plated version

Nicely played. I was amazed when I first blew into a Trevor James alto flute - very responsive and with a complex and beautiful tone (like a bamboo flute). I've never had that kind of response out of even a normal C concert flute. Worth buying in my opinion.
