If you are sticking with African teams why did you write off Algeria it's also an African team in fact it's one of the best in Africa right now. Algeria will be a big surprise in that group mark it down. Remember in 86 Morocco(big underdog) won the Group draw with England & Poland and beat Portugal 3-1. And of course Brazil my favorite team to win it all.. GO BRAZIL!!!
Even though Confederations Cup is not a reliable predictor many of my predictions were based on what I saw during that tournament.
The US has consistently improved and they bring a lot determination which I believe goes a LONG way. Like I said I believe so strongly in team USA I predict them to be 1st in their group.

Ghana just won the U-20 WC and Nigeria got to the finals of the U-17 WC, which shows the talent level in Africa. Cameroon always shows up when they make it to a WC and Ivory Coast is a force to be acknowlegde.
Just trace back to 2002 and how far Korea and how well Japan played at home and in their continent. An African team will surprise the world and make it very far......

I am not convinced of any World Cup pedigree in this German team. Take Schweinsteiger out of the picture and the drive in midfield is gone completely. Experience and mindset cannot disguise the glaring deficiencies. Klose's a spent force and sooner or later Joachim Loew's bizarre tactical decisions (like placing Podolski in left midfield in Euro '08) are going to catch up with him. Very true point about the way you rank and the way you qualify do not predict performance, but it can play against teams as we have seen happen to Argentina and all the pressure they fall under.

Yes, I remember the 2002 debacle well. When the Albeceleste are playing without inhibitions, they are simply mesmerising. Unfortunately, I think Argentina is one or two strikers short of a winning team this time. Kempes, Batistuta, Crespo etc. Argentina, I feel, needs this time of centre forward to deliver the goals. Tevez and Militto just don't compare.

I want to comment on 1 thing about my home country Greece. If they show up and play like they really want to beat anybody, they can go very far. If our team looks disorganized like in the past few years, than we have no chance. Greece is a very unpredicable team, no can tell when this team can catch fire or not.

i think ur wrong about group b. argentina SUCKS... maradona has no idea how to coach. if korea advances then there will def be investigations into them cheating (AGAIN)! Greece is actually very strong, especially when away from home. their defenders out size and out strengthen nearly every attacker in this group, and their set pieces are where they do their damage. so watch out for greece winning the group. how far they'd advance is a different question

-The theory of easy vs hard group is the interesting one, but historically not accurate one. Italy had a decent group in 2006, but it definitely not as hard as the Argentinian one. In 2002, Brazil had a very easy group with China and Costa Rica...and so on...

To have South Africa hosting inherently adds to this and we can NEVER underestimate the power of national pride and of all Africans.
The stars are aligned for the African nations to claim a piece of World Cup history and would not be surprised if any of them made history.
Dunga agrees with you that there's no such thing as a Group of Death but I still believe there's an advantage starting off playing strong teams.

As I said in a previous post the group stage can be a very tricky one. Teams need to be FOCUSED and fully versed on their opponent. Their have been too many legendary UPSETS in the group stage .

If you are sticking with African teams why did you write off Algeria it's also an African team in fact it's one of the best in Africa right now. Algeria will be a big surprise in that group mark it down. Remember in 86 Morocco(big underdog) won the Group draw with England & Poland and beat Portugal 3-1. And of course Brazil my favorite team to win it all.. GO BRAZIL!!!

You're right Algeria is a strong team.
Even though Confederations Cup is not a reliable predictor many of my predictions were based on what I saw during that tournament.
The US has consistently improved and they bring a lot determination which I believe goes a LONG way. Like I said I believe so strongly in team USA I predict them to be 1st in their group.
Between England and Algeria I think it'll come down to World Cup experience. Group stages you either hit the ground running or your out.

I seriously doubt you'd be right my fellow Perez. It is a very serious mistake to write off any of the African nations. Ghana just won the U-20 WC and Nigeria got to the finals of the U-17 WC, which shows the talent level in Africa. Cameroon always shows up when they make it to a WC and Ivory Coast is a force to be acknowlegde.
Just trace back to 2002 and how far Korea and how well Japan played at home and in their continent. An African team will surprise the world and make it very far......

I am not convinced of any World Cup pedigree in this German team. Take Schweinsteiger out of the picture and the drive in midfield is gone completely. Experience and mindset cannot disguise the glaring deficiencies. Klose's a spent force and sooner or later Joachim Loew's bizarre tactical decisions (like placing Podolski in left midfield in Euro '08) are going to catch up with him. Agreed they'll get out of the group though.

Argentina went to the 1998, 2002, and 2006 as favorites and FIFA ranked #1 they disappointed the world in all 3. I even remeber in the 2002 WC one commentator say Argentina had as much talent on the field as on the bench that you could change 11 for 11 and would not notice the difference. Watch out for Argentina because they are not gonna be under that pressure to win the whole thing and once they get the midfield workin together properly, we will see MESSI do wat he does best...

Truth be told there Ranking and even how well you qualify for the Cup is not a predictor for a teams performance at the Cup.
Brazil has proved both points. Winning the Cup after a flawless qualifying tournament and BARELY qualifying to win in 94.
I don't question the teams talent BUT I am worried coach Maradona will be more of a distraction than a leader.

Very true point about the way you rank and the way you qualify do not predict performance, but it can play against teams as we have seen happen to Argentina and all the pressure they fall under.
You made a point about Brazil proving the WC can be won no matter what your ranking is or the way you qualify, but they are BRAZIL, come on if there any team that can do that its Brazil.
And Maradona needs to be out ASAP.. Bring a real coach and get Argentina back in contender form....

Yes, I remember the 2002 debacle well. When the Albeceleste are playing without inhibitions, they are simply mesmerising. Unfortunately, I think Argentina is one or two strikers short of a winning team this time. Kempes, Batistuta, Crespo etc. Argentina, I feel, needs this time of centre forward to deliver the goals. Tevez and Militto just don't compare.
