Ramakuta, kebyar duduk is often danced by a woman dancing the man's part. It's also not a sacred dance, so it is commonly performed for tourists, and that does not lessen the beauty of the dance.
How do you think this was filmed, if not with a camera?
Beautiful dance but dancer is female and has to be a male ! The video shows in the beginning disturbing tourists; also in the background is a tourist with camera a disturbing object !
Hallo Ramakuta, My friend did filming this summer show with a handy cam. You are right, the dancer should be male. It's not easy to find male dancer (even in Bali itself) performing this dance because the strong character of the movement is a bit feminine and not many male want to do it. I know, its really pity. There are many male dances such as Kebyar Terompong, Teruna Jaya, etc, are now performed by female because of above reason.
Anyway, I am one of the members. The Group belong to Music Academy Basel of Switzerland and always work together with Anggur Jaya Gamelan Group from Freiburg (Germany).
The crowd you see are not tourists but the spectators. As we performed in an open park is called Kannenfeld Park (Basel-Switzerland), you see people walking around.
We have annual show in summer. Next show will be on 7th June 2009.
It's true to find a good male dancer who is capable and willing to do this performance ! The meaning of my commentary is to make you more better than you you already are.
