  • Esther williams recanted her claim that he was a cross dresser stated she was told to make the outrageous calim to improve sales

  • @CK1223 AH the POWER of the press, what about his family, and fans?

  • Jeff Chandler was one of the most exciting, talented, versatile actors ever to grace the screen. I had never seen this gem, wasn't he a fabulous mimic, and so funny, thanks! I am still waiting for his movie "Foxfire" to come out on DVD, he and Jane Russell were simply fabulous in that one! God rest his dear heart...

  • @TheAolele he was a lot more entertaining here than I'd have given him credit for. I'm looking into his other films- the only ones I've seen are westerns. I thought "broken arrow" with James Stewart was outstanding for the time in which Chandler plays Apache chief Cochise- non-natives playing Indians has never set well with me but I couldn't help liking it on that occasion.

  • Just looked up his filmography and the only picture of his I've ever seen is Female On The Beach with Joan Crawford. He made lots more, though.

  • I love this guy!What an actor! R.I.P Jeff.

  • Well at least he was wearing men's clothing. Nothing from the Jeff Chandler lady's wear collection in the 1950s.

  • did a good cagney impression

  • Jeff Chandler was the insiration for Race Bannon of Jonny Quest fame.

  • So many celebrities on this show. The only ones I think who never appeared were (of course) Elvis, Brando & Monroe. Elvis & Monroe would have received such an accolade of whistles from both sexes that even Liberace would have been jealous.

  • He is a pip! Wonderful find,thx!

  • I already knew Jeff could act AND sing, but impressions??? I was tremendously impressed by how well he imitated the voices and quirks of all those other stars!

  • When his friend Sammy Davis, Jr. lost an eye in an accident and was in danger of losing the other, Chandler offered to give Davis one of his own eyes. Chandler himself had nearly lost an eye and had been visibly scarred in an auto accident years earlier.

A liitle known fact, that shows how decent he was.

  • For those who should know better.....Jeff Chandler was romantically linked with Esther Williams, who claimed in her 1999 autobiography that she broke off the relationship when she discovered that Chandler was a cross-dresser. However, Esther later admitted privately that this had no basis in fact, and was made up simply to bolster interest in the book.

  • John Daly--best host ever.

  • I love Arlene's bobby-soxer comment.

  • Ira Grossel. Died of medical malpractice at age 42.

  • Was this fixed? How did Cerf guess?

  • Not brought up, but, he was on radio quite a bit. I believe he played Sam Spade.

  • Gollum voice

  • All but forgotten by the current generation, which is a shame. If for nothing else than his Oscar-nominated role in "Broken Arrow," as well as such hits of the era as "Red Ball Express" and "The Jayhawkers," he should be better-remembered.

  • lovely guy! and a mimic. died too young.

  • stud.

  • Incredable talent as an actor, singer and impesonator, it's a pity that he lost his life due to malpractice.

  • He was such a good impressionist, I'm surprised he didn't make a career out of that instead of acting.

  • @TrulyTrixy69 I don't know where you get your info, but if it's Ether Williams I wouldn't give it much credit. She was a stark raving nut case. I heard her in an interview at a film screening and she was a babbling fool. Maybe you are imposing your own man hating perversions onto him.

  • @TrulyTrixy69 Don't refer to me with your family names. You like him? You sure don't sound like it. I'd hate to see what you'd write about him if you hated him. I'm not a homophobe, but your statements about Chandler are not only ignorant but homophobic.

  • @TrulyTrixy69 I said don't call me your family names, you troll. You may call your mother, father and brother those names but don't call me them. If I want lip from you, I'll check my zipper. Now get on out of here, troll ho. And the only one who is going to apologize is you, for bringing your low-life comments on here.

  • @TrulyTrixy69 lol, I am a bully. That's a howler. I don't believe you're 15 with a mouth like that on you. But OK you go ahead and pray then, and I'll just leave it at that.

  • Fine looking man. Great actor...a family fave.

  • a talented man died far too young

  • Wow... he should be in a cartoon and be the voice for a funny guy.

  • Heard he was a really nice guy.

  • Jeff Chandler was a greatly underrated actor. One of my favorite films of his was "Foxfire." He and Jane Russell were so good together!!!!!!!

  • He surely was

  • @italianariesguy

I love the movie Foxfire. I agree...Jane and Jeff were AWESOME TOGETHER!!!

  • Who said he did ? Esther Williams ? He can't defend himself anymore, so please cut if off ! He was a fine (underrated) actor, that's the most important thing, so let's concentrate on that item please.

    Danielle (from Belgium)

  • Was he gay ?

  • J.C. was surely lost before he reached his stride- a very believable actor , great voice great delivery in his roles, I did not know his untimely death- ...Robert Q. Lewis here a panelst was a major affect in radio with top pop & R&R music , while the others primarily were focused in the NY Lime-Light of the Legitamate Theatre in some shape or form... Norbert Thanks for posting all these

  • The late great Jeff Chandler left us much too soon. A very underated actor. Not only effective in drama but delightful in comedy and also a fine singer. His James Cagney, Jimmy Stewart & Maxie Rosenbloom impressions are hilarious. In his case, going prematurely gray only added to his handsome & virile image. Thanks for posting this rare gem!

  • Do you ever play comedy? Now, perhaps "in movies" was implied, but Dorothy didn't say so. If Our Miss Brooks wasn't comedy ...

  • he could act though, gay or not rip

  • he was also a good singer and made records

  • Very likable and I don't care one way or another whether he was gay or not.

  • Favorited! XD XD XD

  • good Cagney imitation

  • "not blond" - was he prematurely gray?

  • Yes, if I recall correctly Jeff Chandler was prematurely gray. Died of a bothched surgery at a young age.

  • in the 50's my mom and her sister worked for western mortgage in los angeles(mid-town)-my mom took the bus there and the stop was in front of the mansion used in 'sunset blvd'-anyway the office was near his mom's house and the girls would get all excited when he'd come to visit her

  • He was so very handsome, but his girlfreind Esther Williams stated that she caught him trying on her gowns one night. That did it for her! Sad to say.

  • Ah so what?...maybe he was just tryin to spice up the sex life a bit...lol

  • Thank you, more please! These are great.

  • ( 4:33 ) The perils of living television: CBS censors must have bit through their pipes.

  • at what the broad joke

  • For saying "Good God!"

  • This is from that period of 1954 when Fred Allen and Robert Q Lewis alternated in the second seat position.

"Who the Dickens works for Universal?" Yeah, who indeed.

The reference to his domestic publicity was Chandler's 1954 divorce. Bennett certainly could be tactless when he put his mind to it.

  • Well Jimmy Stewart made a series of damn good movies for Universal during this time--Glenn Miller Story, The Far Country, Thunder Bay, Bend of the River, Strategic Air Command...
