I'm an old school kind of musician that appreciates the technical aspects of a band like "Yes " of the 70's that relied totally on their ability to write and perform their songs with limited technical support.

There is a lot of great music out there that I would just love if they would just stop overproducing it.

The band sorely misses the keyboards that are on the recording, as well as the backing vocals. On later gigs, they were added (I guess once the money started coming in..) Shes a breath of fresh air in the boring musical year.

Please dont take offence..I am not anti-Katy..I think she's great. But I have rec studio and play live often..so i see the little technical things. And fwiw: I wouldnt assume she eschews technology out Live...her GMA appearence of this song seems to have samplers doing the backing vocals..and the use of a click track. But hey thats not musical fraud. In fact its harder to do that live than lip sync and some BS dance moves. and like I said she is a breath of fresh air.

I don't like to put a label on music, but I wish Perry stuck with this "pop punk / alternative" direction. The studio version of this song removes that raw live edge and tidies it up into a neat little pop parcel for the masses. As with all of her singles now. Great song.
