It's too bad that songs like this constantly put the sole blame of fatherlessness on dads. In my case and in most cases I have come acroos the dad didn't choose to leave. The Mother and family courts forced him to. My mother used to tell me she didn't need a man to raise her kids but she never hestitated to say I was just like my father when I did something she didn't like. I guess she did need him as a scapegoat and child support.

I have raised two kids who aren't of my own blood, they are my everything and they call me dad, even though I'm not with their mom, but I still go and see them, I still go and play with them, and I still buy them things, they have NO father because he died after their second child, he got taken out by a drunk driver. I tell those kids that I love them.

I grew up without a dad, even though he was there, but his stupid cover band was more important then mine and my brothers needs, so he split and is now homeless, I don't petty him at all. But at least my dad still has a chance to change things, their dad doesn't. So as long as those boys are in my life, I will continue to be their dad even though I know by blood I'm not, but love goes deeper then blood.

Every real Dad needs his kids, but you might try first to get to understand his reasons for leaving. You said that he had been good to you and your Mum since he realised the error of his ways. im a girl....but when i look at my brother with my dad...i realize that this is correct. because, when it's my dad's weekend to see us, and we drive into his driveway, he is always sitting on the porch wating for us. even if we are late and get there at 11:00 or12:00 a.m. he is always waiting. i love him so much and so does my brother. my daddy texts us goodnight every night and good morning every morning. after school he asks us how was school. i can't wait to show him this. luv you daddy.

This song and the guy wo wrote this song is right, every boy need a father, and thats something i never had in my life while growing up. I've been on my own since i was sixteen. My mother died when i was only five so it was only me and my father for so many years, and when i was ten all we did was fight, until when my father kicked me out on my birthday, all he gave was freedom from that hell. This makes me think of the past. and how it needed to be changed.

The song definitely has promise in the country or christian music realm... could easily convert it into a Christian song as well with another (or different) verse added in at the end. my dad went to jail when i was born cause he stole supplies for me like diapers,bottles and stuff. and wrote me a letter last week telling me he couldn't live with himself anymore and told me he got only a year in jail, and couldn't bare to see me. the letter was a suicide letter he killed himself cause he thought he was a bad dad. i never saw him, knew what he looked like, or had ever had one. I've been from foster to foster and just wish he knew i just wanted him here for me...

Every real Dad needs his kids, but you might try first to get to understand his reasons for leaving. You said that he had been good to you and your Mum since he realised the error of his ways. im a girl....but when i look at my brother with my dad...i realize that this is correct. because, when it's my dad's weekend to see us, and we drive into his driveway, he is always sitting on the porch wating for us. even if we are late and get there at 11:00 or12:00 a.m. he is always waiting. i love him so much and so does my brother. my daddy texts us goodnight every night and good morning every morning. after school he asks us how was school. i can't wait to show him this. luv you daddy.

I LOVED the song & video! I'm a single dad of a 15 y/o son. I've been doing my very best to be the father, dad, & mentor my son needs and deserves. I like this song very much I had my son for only two months he was born 6/16/2009 and died 8/09/2009 and even in those two months I loved him cared for him and would do everything for him.
