I was born in Salinas, Ca, which is right next door. I remember family trips to the aquarium, and school field trips <3 I now live on the east coast. I miss the beaches of Monterey</3
yeah i heard the mum great white snuk in and rammed the tunnel and mick me blonde hair and black jax had to put dynamite in its guts and blow it .me guts me guts
It is so important to spread awareness about what is happening to our planet, to all the creatures living here; some of us are prospering - some are dying out. This is so fundamentally wrong, and against the natural order of things. As humans we need to be humane, for that is the definition of humanity. Look into the eyes of any animal - there is awareness there. I'LL FOLLOW THE MOON is a wonderful book about green sea turtles, proceeds go to charity organizations for turtles. God bless
So just out of curiosity..what happens when that great white gets bigger? Seems to me that type of animal shouldn't be in captivity..disaster waiting to happen. There is a reason why they don't survive in captivity. It would be awesome to see it in person though.
Not only did they save 5 white sharks by successfully transporting them from Southern California where they would otherwise be fished as bycatch, but all juvenille sharks migrated south to the Sea of Cortez immediately after being released. Look at the aquarium's website and the TRCC and TOPP organization data funded by Stanford University. It's not propoganda at all. It's just good science.
@frogfeeder The sharks were released safely and are STILL being monitored by the aquarium as healthy individuals. These animals are found injured in the wild and rehabilitated through the aquarium - they are released before their natural drive for hunting kicks in. They are released for 1) safety of other exhibit animals 2) you can't keep a 20 ft 5,000 lb animal in cativity. Why do you think the sunfish are released so often? If you wish to track their great whites you can through their website.
Great Video!!! But what happened to the Great White? I know that they are almost on the brink of extinction, but still, it would have made a good attraction
I was just there with my family! It was so awesome and my favorite was the jellies. Too bad the "The Outer Bay" exhibit was closed. I wanted to see the sharks.
Wow, this aquariums awesome...and a great white shark in a tank? A few aquariums have tried captivating great whites before but have had to let them go due to risk of it dying but this seems to be ok in this tank...it is a damn big tank to be fair though so I'm glad its healthy enough to live in captivity... Im coming to Cali nect year and I'm guna have to visit this place!
@azaaza0909 i believe like in 2008 or 2009 the great white didnt get along and possibly tried to eat the other fish. or another time where a shark was basically dead floating on its side, so they had to take it out & let it go....
what a bummer they had to let him go since he was hunting the other fish. Dont blame him though! its like going to an all you can eat buffet and not being able to try anything right!
lol id did not die it was released =D i was there yesterday the august 09 gw is still there and healthy as were all of them i go once a week to the aquarium =)
I went there in summer of 2007 and they didn't have the grea white. I heard that they kept a barrier around one off the coast and you had to pay for a boat trip to get there. Is that true?
I just love those baby great whites! i wish i could check this monteray bay out :D
i hope some of the dumb public can appreciate great whites more.. while most were saving whales , bears etc , the sharks were getting butchered by their own people. So many big and old great white sharks are gone ..thanks to hunters
I heard about one great white in captivity that did really well. It ate everything the researchers fed it, particularly pink salmon, and it stayed really healthy. But it started to get real big, real fast. It was in a tank with other sharks and eventually it got so big, it wanted the whole tank for itself. So it started attacking the other sharks, then they had to release it. Can anyone tell me if they've heard of this shark too? And if so, is the one in Monterey Bay the same shark?
I grew up in Monterey and saw the demolition and construction of Cannery Row and the aquarium. Your video was a good commentary on the wonders of the bay.
OMG i can so relate to u! I live around that area too and instead of going to the stienheart (if that is how to spell it) me n my fam went to monteray for a couple of years while the other aquarium in SF was being rebuilt. Also I was stung by a Man o war as well in hawaii! ouch!
Fantastic video man. I went to the aquarium while I was in the States for my December vacation. I had a very good time there, I esepcially like the sea otters.

well u don't even know me so y would u say that?.....anyways it's an inside joke to spell crazy wrong .. and i would rather wait on the whole sex thing OK?
I felt that way about the Steinhart aquarium in SF when I was a kid--ALL those field trips, sometimes twice a year. Now I'd kill to be able to see it again. You may feel different when you're my age (46)!;-)
ive donated a few fish there for the ones i caught a halibut donated it there lets see what els i donated one of the bat rays i caught on a boat like 2 or 3 other fish but i cant remember what there called.
That looked excellent, we were in Vegas a few days ago and went to the mandalay bay shark reef, it was cool especialy the crocs but would loved to have seen a great white up close!
That's right, in Plaza la Isla. You can feed sharks there. I always wanted to do it but I never had time. I used to work at a store right next to it.
