I recently heard my own voice, and call me a narcistic freak or something, but I actually like it. I may even prefer it over the voice I usually hear from myself. My only complain is that I can't hear my voice like it actually sounds, all of the time. I hate the thought of living in an illusion, never to know how I actually sound. Is there any way to "fix" that, some kind of routine or something that allows me to hear myself like all others do?
I like hearing other people say that they hate their voices, because they always have perfectly acceptable voices, and then I realize my voice must be normal too.

Well I forced myself to improve my speeches and I am satisfied about that. I will never appreciate my voice, but I don´t hate speaking in public anymore!

Well to me, many adio announcers and tv people with "golden" voices sound incredibly boring because its all about pear shaped vowels and no personality in their voice. Its dull and irritating.
Voice is not just the sound, but the personality of the person effects the rhythm and pitch . So you dont have to have a great sounding voice. Its all about delivery.
This feels like lies to me mostly because my friends and family say I have a great voice and then when I record it and play it back in front of them they say that it sounds different in bad way...

My voice is either too soft/too low. It sucks when I have to do presentations to a large group and it's most likely why i dread them so. i think this is the major reason my self image is so low. My voice feels "pip-squeak-ish", thus I feel pip-squeak-ish" and not worthy of being interacted with. -___-

Do you think it is possible to change one's voice? My voice is gruff and I know this for a fact from recording it a few times. People tend to ask me to repeat what I said. So, you see there is a definite issue. Any suggestions?

This guy is wrong: a recorded voice is also distorted, especially on small tape recorders. So your recorded voice doesn't sound like your true voice. Only other people can hear your true voice.
I know that, believe me, I've heard white people that can't speak for shit, espiecally some of those who live in those southern parts, no offense, but talk really messed up, but the one's who live up north, espiecally in NYC, they speak really educated. I can't speak in public without people making fun of me or looking at me weird. My voice is seriously terrible and it's not just me who thinks that. Everyone tells me that I speak like a moron.. I get anxious when I speak.

this man is giving horrible advise, listen and look at him, he looks horribly unnatural almost forcing himself to sound the way he does, which is like a high pitched fruit, he is trying too hard.

im still having difficulty getting over the sound of my voice. i sympathise with every1 in the same situation. however, im taking elocution lessons, in ENGLISH as opposed to AMERICAN ENGLISH, and keeping a voice recorder to see if there are any changes. its been one week, and still no change. all thats happpend, is people no longer ask me to repeat myself. i guess thats a good thing.......................

This guy is wrong: a recorded voice is also distorted, especially on small tape recorders. So your recorded voice doesn't sound like your true voice. Only other people can hear your true voice.

I know that, believe me, I've heard white people that can't speak for shit, espiecally some of those who live in those southern parts, no offense, but talk really messed up, but the one's who live up north, espiecally in NYC, they speak really educated. Now alot of people are telling me that, my Brooklyn accent isn't too rich anymore. But now I'm starting to get over the way I sound. They tell me that I have a New England accent now.

I hate my own voice too, because I'm black and when I hear my voice in my head, I sound all white and sophisticated, but when it's played back to me, I hear that Brooklyn ghetto accent coming right out of my mouth and I hate it.

what if you sound like an oaf? when i listen to my recorded voice, it sounds kinda dumb and slow, i just lose a lot of confidence from it... I'm asian and have an accent too, but when I hear my self when I speak, I really don't think i sound that bad

When I heard my recorded voice I kinda freaked out too and I hated my voice.
But think about it this way, when was the last time you really noticed someone with a really really crappy voice? For me it's hardly ever, and I bet at least 70% of everyone hates their voice when they hear it on a recording!

I hate my voice because whenever I sand I thought I sounded ok and if I put more effort into it I could sound better. Hearing a recording of my singing makes me want to stop singing even for myself because that dull sound is always what comes out rather than what "I" hear.
