I always thought the "good vantage point" was the spot where you'd exit the car, but I couldn't complete the mission that way because 8Ball would get shot. So I went up the stairs instead.

get to the pier through the bum tunnel, then nudge 8ball with your vehicle out and towards red barrels until you kind of run over him and he's lying down. then snipe from roof. many tries on droid razr but finally done woohoo!

For those struggling to complete "Bomb da Base" on iPhone/iPad due to the unresponsive controls/slow sniper mode, I had success by getting full body armor, boosting my health to 125 with a hooker, and taking the adrenaline pill found near the ship. Charge the ramp, killing the two men at the base as you approach. Continue up the ramp and take out the opponents from left to right, but stay back so you don't accidentally kill yourself when shooting near the explosive barrels.

@towntravis I just blocked 8-Ball from the ship by parking one of the trucks in front of his normal path. It was long enough that the Cartel stayed still & didn't reposition or move to attack & I simply sniped them from the roof of the building.

its stupid actually. when 8ball ducks behind the crate, you prod him with a car, and when he falls, you drive over him so he can't get up...you have plenty of time to shoot the cartel then, however, 8ball magically escapes. it just buys you enough time to elegantly clear his path.

I have an easy way you can pass this missions using cheats.

Get a couple tanks place them infront of the bridge that goes onto the ship then start the mission the tanks will remain there once you get to the harbour for the mission you can blast away at the cartel and 8-ball won't die cause he won't be able to get past the tanks you can then move the tanks and let 8-ball through works everytime for me.

In GTA IV it's about getting out of the area where the police are searching (wich is a flashing circle on the GPS).

- get full armor 200 hp total

- get flamethrower

- get the sniper rifle shoot first the guy at the wooden bridge then the guy down at the cartel cruisers

- run to the boat then kill everybody with you flamethrower

- easy and you done

Missions which require precision aiming is why the PC version is so much better. Cleared the ship of all of the enemies before 8-Ball got even halfway across the deck.

You know where you first go up the ladder? Behind there are some boxes and in between them is an adrenaline pill which slows it down. That helped me win the mission.
