  • 8:09 finish unreal. No wonder todays pros respect these guys - they are solid

  • I watched this race when it happened and thought, "finally, Mark did it!" To this day whenever I watch this race I think he really earned it. Dave said it right - if someone was going to beat him, he was going to have to pay the price and Mark did.

  • Thumbs up if you think Matt Fitzgerald Book is Trash

  • Mark Allen vs Dave Scott. Epic.

Paula Newby Fraser...one of the best female athletes of all time.

Not to mention Dick and Ricky Hoyt.

Greatest Ironman of all-time. Hands down...no discussion. End of story.

  • @winderbinder Paula is THE best bar none....from what little I've read!!

  • thank you for amazing video. You are the guy.Great job and god bless you

  • ok these guys beat todays times on trash bikes compare the ones that exist today.... honestly these guys are tough

  • @tricadel different courses i think... but great athletes nonetheless

  • Mark Allen has some sweet sweet shades on.

  • I keep thinking the guy is saying Paula Noobie Fraser :D...soooo far from the truth :)

  • dam one of the best races ive ever seen!!!

  • Team Hoyt brings tears to my eyes.

  • Mark Allen is a very articulate and charitable man during interviews. He is very humble and shows great respect for his competitors. A real class act.

  • I almost cryed. wow awsome totaly awsome

  • UNbelievable, best IM ever - 100%. It still sends shivers down my spine, 20 years on.

And the aid station workers werent telling them how to drink from the bottles, that was Scott telling them to take the lids off teh bottles before handing them over. He was getting cranky toward the end, I think he knew he could not drop Allen and it wasnt going to be his day

  • It is because of people like Hoyt that I push myself as hard as I can. I sold my car a few years ago and now I train riding to work and back, then running. Now I need to add swimming, inline skating and rowing... NO EXCUES!

  • dude...hoyt passed someone up in the last stretch!!!!!!!! thats freaking awesome!!! PROPS!!! MANY PROPS that was amazing to watch

  • it's funny, that guy in the first 20 seconds of the video telling dave and mark how to open a water bottle.

  • @ryanjames2007 Actually, I think he was instructing the other volunteers to have the water bottles already open for the athletes.

  • ive been on youtube watching videos of so many different things.. and i can honestly say this is the best series i have ever watched. Tottally unbelievable. The raw courage of those 2 athletes just is amazing. And i dont care what anyone says. Dick Hoyt - FATHER OF THE CENTURY.

  • this is my favourite Ironman movie, it has the winning of Mark Allen and the Hoyt team, thats pritty much the whole Ironman spirit right there

  • you're right. this 1989 race is the best ironman ever. I've seen sooooo many times.

what a suicidal pace for the marathon!!!!

unbelievable race. part of the history.

  • Why is part 6 letterboxed and the other five parts aren't?

  • That Ricky and his Dad shit me

  • just incredible, i could only imagine the amount of emotions that were between father and son. jus competing by yourself is a feat in the triathlon, a test of the human bodies limits. my dad did a few triathlons and i have been recently thinkin about training for it, even tho im goin to have to lose some serious weight since im about 197, the lowest weight i got to was 182, las summer, but i jus want to prove to myself i can do it. I loved the videos take keaz malama pono

  • no excuses

  • very inspiring. no excuses for me now!

  • I have the utmost respect for Ricky and his Dad. They made this race amazing.

  • The best Ironman race of all time. Those guys were just ripping the marathon at 3:37/km. pace. And you can't overlook Paula's record, which only made the day more unbelievable.

  • I used to do Tri's when I was 16-22 years old.

I had this particular race on tape, on VHS that I had taped off of the TV. I watched it almost every day for about 2 months straight.

My mom would come home from work and see me watching it again and again and she thought I was some psycho or something. But I could not help it, I just could not stop watching it......plus it helped tremendously with my training.

  • what is the song called that is on part 4 at the part when dittrich runs?

  • Thank you for putting up the whole series bevanjames!

  • love the 6 part series

  • Thanks I really appreciate this...loving it!

  • do es anyone know what the song is called when dittrich comes in on his bike into the running section?

  • Thank you so much for posting this! What motivation for me!!!

  • gotta love that roar of the finish line...+ always the 80's garb

  • this video isn't working, but the other 5 parts did...what happened?

  • it is ok....;o
