u recall the episode "Battle aboard the st. anne"? ash was watching a team of butterfree take down a group of team rocket grunts and tries to get his butterfree to join the attack, but then ends up sending out a raticate cuz he forgot he had traded it. his flashbacks about butterfree come and this soundtrack plays.

ice pokemon are my favorite,they can take down almost anyone. icebeam and blizzard are super effective against grass, fire i think, ground, flying, rock, electric i think, im not sure about the new types such as dark and steel.

I like ice attacks! XD It's a key type for any party! Get a good Water/Ice pokemon in or a powerful Water pokemon and you're golden!! Milotic's my choice!!

They're SE against Grass, Ground, Flying and Dragon, which is nice coverage since two of those types are very common in Standard Play. The types that resist it are Fire, Water, Ice and Steel, however two of those are rarely seen so there's not much that's safe from it.

However, the downside is they only resist Ice types naturally and have huge weaknesses to Fire, Fighting and Rock (and Steel, but it's pretty rare), which makes them pretty terrible defensively. So they're good, but not perfect.

Well, in the newer games, with ice attacks on a fire/flying pokemon it's super effective against flying, but the fire attribute cancels it out and makes it a normal hit.

Yes, I agree they are not perfect, so that's why you look for a good type that covers it's weakness in a double battle, like a ground pokemon with a Lighningrod ability. Pelliper and Rhydon go together perfectly!!

Correction, Gyrados goes perfectly with Rhydon/Rhyperior. Pelliper is considered the poor man's Gyrados primarily because it doesn't learn a lot of stuff. Gyrados on the other hand pulverizes practically everything that comes its way with the proper setup.

LOL I am kind of a competitive player so yeah I prefer Gyrados over Milotic (especially aftyer the generation change, Milotic got seriously NERFED)

But a guilty pleasure I have is creating a theme team where pokemon in one team is all related to one another for extra giggles.

Really?! How so? Also, Gyrados is and Rhyhorn are really good partners! XD Also, since Gyrados is water/flying you can utilize those two types (giving those moves a 1.5 times bonus!) and be a real threat with the loss of it's weakness to thunder!!

The split of moves into physical and Special hit Milotic hard because now there are physical Electric and Grass moves. This makes it hard for it to wall. On the other hand, Gyrados' movepool was ramped up giving it a whole lot more new options. This coupled with its above average resistances and defense allows it to boost for a few rounds and then tear the enemy to pieces. In double with backup it is a monster, but in single battle it shines because few electric pokemon can survive a good hit.

Gyrados has intimidate. He is dual flying type which automatically covers for levitate. This makes it even better for Gyrados since it allows it to wall even better by weakening the opponent's attack. Given the setup, it allows Gyrados to be swapped in with ease because it most likely weakens them enough to make it matter.
