Most of the prisoners taken during the war in 'nam was killed at the end. The Vietnamese did not show mercy to the americans, as the american soldiers did not show mercy either. Its a paradox of warfare, what is the point is saving enemy lifes?

Not the whole of Vietnam was the enemy of the US during the war. North Vietnam was a soviet ally while South Vietnam was a US ally. The American guys are POWs in this movie, captured by the "bad" vietnamese men.

this movie, rambo was in jail he got out to do a mission of going to Vietnam(15 years after the war) to look for POWs and come back home. But he finds there are still communism(vietnam and russia) and prisoners from 15 years ago. US government wants to avoid going to war with vietnam over a few US soldiers, so they never pick rambo up after his mission. Rambo kills the small army and rescues all the POWs

Thats quite an accolade....IMHO First Blood was actually a better movie(or at least more significant, better is subjective and hard to quantify. ) in that it redefined action adventure movies in the same way Dirty Harry changed cops and robber flicks forever. The interesting thing about this film is that it dominated the box office because First blood (which was a sleeper in theaters) had been a monster hit in the vhs rental shops.
