Um I just came across these post and I must say I am sickend by thedutchess39 comments about mr moore, who is my father!!! Sam didn't like Dave for a big reason, he lost all respect for Dave after Dave shot his own wife in the face. I think that's a pretty good reason to dislike someone. Sam also owned the rights to 'Sam & Dave" when Dave was running around with Sam Daniels. So before you slam someone CHECK YOUR FACTS!!!!! Oh and Sam has never said he HATES Sam & Dave...

It just sucks to see Sam sing these songs without Dave. It just sucks, man! If "Sam & Dave" the act is truly dead like you keep saying, Sam, then quit singing these songs jackass! Ooops, I forgot, then you wouldn't have anything to sing because nobody cares about your post-Sam & Dave material (which actually is just a bunch of second-rate duets; singing with a variety of bootleg Daves if you will).

R.I.P. Dave Prater! You are TRULY missed, man!

It would be nice if you could voice your opinion without attacking Sam personally. The man is entitled to make a living, and he's still a great singer. I played guitar with Sam and Dave (with Dave Prater) in the early Eighties. I miss Dave too, he was a fun guy and great, gritty, singer. I also have done a ton of gigs with Sam. I agree that the songs don't sound the same (some would say as good) with one singer. What would you do in his shoes? Give up singing? Let the man make a living.

The reason I attack Sam personally is because I truly can't stand the way he talks about Dave - It annoys me to no end. Sam is the one that said "Sam & Dave" is dead; not me. The man IS entitled to make a living even though he tried to block Dave from making one in the eightes (you should know that better than me lol). What was Dave supposed to do for a living when Sam and his cackling wife we're chasing him all over the country trying to block him from performing?....

On a brighter note, you are lucky you actually got to know Dave Prater (he looked like a fun guy). What years did you play for him? Do you know Harold Smith (bass/piano player)? I wouldn't mind talking to you about your memories of Dave, but you probably think I'm a jerk and don't want to now lol. Later.

I don't think you're a jerk by any means. I think one of the problems that Sam had with Dave after the breakup was that Dave found a singer named Sam and was booking gigs as "Sam and Dave". I worked with them the last year they were together, which I think was 1981. There was a lot of stuff going on between them, kind of a Sonny and Brownie love/hate thing. The whole scene was pretty chaotic. I liked hanging out with Dave back then, he was a down to earth guy. I don't know Harold Smith...

Maybe we can show the YouTube community that it's possible to discuss things without going ballistic on each other! I don't think Sam would have survived much longer if he kept going with Dave at the level of the business they were occupying. He had a little habit that his wife helped him break along with other health issues. I'm not going to comment on the cackling - I'm pretending to be a gentleman here! I wish S.&D. could have coexisted, but a lot of bad blood had built up...

Sam tried to get a solo thing going that wasn't built on the old songs, but this is a tough business. A lot of people sent him material, he'd cut demos and try new tunes on gigs, etc. Seems like most folks were mostly interested in hearing the old songs, and it's tough to go against that flow. Anyway, maybe I can send you a message one of these days with some good Dave Prater stories.
