@Bladerunner93 No. Remember, in the first mini-series it is explained with Willie that they are taught the languages of the areas that they were to be stationed in. Willie was originally taught Arabic because he was to be stationed in Saudi Arabia. When he was switched to Los Angeles at the last minute he was unable to fully learn english enough to speak it well.

They sent ships all over the world and though I don't doubt they are capable of creating a universal translator they never mention it. They barely use any visible communicator devices either. Second, they of course are going to be speaking english so that no one has to sit there and read a bunch of subtitles everytime they have they have dialog.

I remember when I was in elementary school and everyone was starting "clubs" of all kinds. I started a "V" club and I was the head of visitors with about 7 kids working under my command. I'd walk around the school saying lines like "Secure this room. Nobody in or out" & "Reinforce all positions around the perimeter. They must never leave these grounds". Steven says several of those lines in this clip. Those were fun times.

@jestearns Donovan was taking aim but Steven's shot distracted him, lets assume that a laser blast is the same as a bullet hit, if it hits a wall near you, you still feel a shockwave and a very loud bang, dont forget while bangs are not deafening in movies, performers on set do wear earplugs so we have to give reality the benefit of the doubt! even though the editing is a little off.

As for the roof, the aliens had surrounded the area they were escaping toward! so no need to shoot them early.

A few reasons. First of all it's not easy to invent a new language, which is exactly what the creators of the series would have had to do. Second of all it's easier for the viewer so they don't have to read subtitles.

The Klingon language of Star Trek is a real language. They hired a linguist to create the language for them and I'm sure it took a long time.
