He yelled at us, we either stood there trying to figure out what the order was or we ran around trying to look like we were working. Another case is where the instructor is speaking clearly by the idea just seems odd. Sent on a detail, get sent back because they have too many people, and get punished for not being there.
To clarify, the Drill SGT was training us in English but his first language was Spanish. Even the Mexican, Cuban, and Puerto Rican guys couldn't understand him. We had other Drill SGTs who were better at English and we didn't have many problems except for a nearly retarded kid (going to the BX without permission) and a kid who threatened to kill a guy. Mass punishment took place but we know who was messing up.

This is a prime example why we need to come to grips with reality--for anything. Everyone dies--EVERYONE. Yeah, it sucks when someone you love or are close to dies, but take some time to grieve and then figure out how to deal with it. Guess what, my mother has cancer. She's probably going to die a lot sooner than I expected. I've come to grips with that. Boot Camp/Basic trains us to deal with things like this. Yeah, sometimes there are better techniques, but it's on us to put it together.

But then again I hear a bunch of people talk about how they won't take shit from a DI, but once you are isolated, nothing of your own in your possession, that individuality and Badass attitude seems to go away. I saw one kid after being pushed to death stand up and say, "NO! I'm not going to do it. NO!" and the DI looked at him and said, "Is that right? And then looked to one of the others and the kid changed his mind right quick.

Refusal to follow orders is catagorized under "failure to adapt" and you will be discharged from service. The Marine Corps cannot have self-absorbed individuals in charge of other Marine's lives.

Stress cards are rumors that have been floating around since I EASed. Never happened. Never going to happen. Its just one of those rumors that refuses to die.

it depends on where you go. At Fort Benning, Fort Knox, and Fort Sill stress cards are major no go. The only places I have heard that have them are Jackson, Leonward Wood etc

Marines can have sympathy, too. Even Drill Instructors. Back in '01 we had a guy whose mom died while he was at boot camp. Different situation than this one obviously. But do you know what the Corps did? They let him go home for a few days for the funeral. Unheard of, no? I'm sure it helped that we were in team week, kind of a lull in training where we were working at the chow hall, but still... don't act like the Corps doesn't care about its Marines, or even its recruits for that matter.

I don't know if that's true about the guidelines. But then again I hear a bunch of people talk about how they won't take shit from a DI, but once you are isolated, nothing of your own in your possession, that individuality and Badass attitude seems to go away. I saw one kid after being pushed to death stand up and say, "NO! I'm not going to do it. NO!" and the DI looked at him and said, "Is that right? And then looked to one of the others and the kid changed his mind right quick.

@greenmonsterfilm Taking shit from the DI is part of becoming a Marine to enforce immediate obedience to all orders from those appointed above you. Refusal to follow orders is catagorized under "failure to adapt" and you will be discharged from service. The Marine Corps cannot have self-absorbed individuals in charge of other Marine's lives.

@greenmonsterfilm I know a Marine that buttstoked his DI with his rifle. The DI and his buddies pulled him aside during a nightfire course and beat the living shit out of him, leaving him with scars. In order to avoid being held for investigation (which would take months upon months) and to get the fuck off the island the fastest, he told the commanding officer he tripped and did not testify against the DIs.

I think the mental and physical challenge is still there like it always has been but the abuse isn't there as I heard it was back in the day... however there were A LOT of shit bags that made it through my platoon that didn't deserve the title, they never put out but they got their E.G.A.

I have to start somewhere.. and Poolee is the start I do beleive. I enjoy PT, it's motivating. Im not some pussyshit who signed up for admin or reserves.. 03XX, devil dog active duty. Hope to be Scout/Sniper when I reach LCpl. Im sure that PT with the Marines on recruiters assistance is nothing compared to Boot, but I take a sense of Pride in leading the pack (or close to it in some circumstances). it depends on where you go. At Fort Benning, Fort Knox, and Fort Sill stress cards are major no go. The only places I have heard that have them are Jackson, Leonward Wood etc

What Marine Corps are you talking about?? They do not have stress cards, they did notget rid of the crucible. Know your facts reject before you run your mouth.
You hollywood Marines are the ones that changed to having the crucible towards the middle of training to reduce injuries, while Parris Island Marines still do the Crucible towards the end.

Marines can have sympathy, too. Even Drill Instructors. Back in '01 we had a guy whose mom died while he was at boot camp. Different situation than this one obviously. But do you know what the Corps did? They let him go home for a few days for the funeral. Unheard of, no? I'm sure it helped that we were in team week, kind of a lull in training where we were working at the chow hall, but still... don't act like the Corps doesn't care about its Marines, or even its recruits for that matter.
