Oh dear me...this would be embarrasing at a local folk club...and the out of tune guitars...I've seen loads of people correct the tuning as they go along, but this was like they were both waiting for three minutes to pass and for it all to be mercifully over so they could sign for their paycheques!!! I was waiting for it to go into "Poor Wayfaring Stranger" at the start. Lordy, Lordy... truly dreadful.

Buddy was off that day apparently. Was it her voice he was distracted by or the fact that he was playing acoustic? Maybe both. Who knows. Nonetheless even the best might screw up a little now and again when they improvise.
While he might have been a bit out of tune, and sometimes out of rhythm, the song Buddy Guy plays is fucking amazing, and is something only the likes of buddy guy can play. If you really find it so horrible that you can't hear any of it, don't stick around just because you like complaining.
Well considering she looked so upset at the end, I'm sure she knew she could have done better and Buddy Guy looked quite happy with her, so maybe you're all just a bunch of nasty bastards. Every musician has bad days.

I tried really hard to get my head & heart wrapped around this, but it just didn't work for me. I realize there's a lot of play room when interpreting both jazz & the blues, but this just struck me as an idea that theoretically looked better on paper. I can't abide out of tune guitars...some may see that as taking artistic license in song styling--I see it as careless laziness. I love Chan's voice: smoky, husky, expressive, & Buddy's playing...but this was just a train wreck, plain & simple.

I really like this. Why should Cat Power play this song in delta blues style? She turned it into a haunting one chord droning ballad and Buddy Guy's tastefully added blues licks really support the mood.

Cat Power is an inconsistent performer --- but when she is on --- she is very powerful --- last year she was awesome with a r&b big band --- one of the best shows I had seen in a while.

when you watch this, keep in mind that chan is playing a basic folk chord progression and buddy is soloing in a blues scale. theres nothing that is supposed to be "impressive", this focuses on emotion, not how they are technically. who cares how well in tune they are with each other, the only bit of in tune they should have is riding along the same sound. the impressiveness is how well they can translate their emotions through something, in this case being guitar and voice.
Yes, exactly! She plays "alternative music", which isn't related to Robert Johnson's "Come On In My Kitchen", a Country Blues song from 1936. So why the Hell is she even trying to perform this? Does Buddy Guy try to do gangsta rap? It makes zero sense. Her voice is atrocious, too.
I completely have the right to say that this is terrible: Guy doesn't know how to change his guitar playing to accompany her non-Blues-informed guitar playing, her singing is lousy, and this version of the song has none of the beauty of the original.
