Respected by all? The 7.62x39mm AK-47 is respected by all cause it's killed more men than cancer. An AK in 5.56 is damn insult to real AK's and Kalashnikov s design!
The only problem with converted Saigas, is that its a pain-in-the-ass to thread on a muzzle device to the tip of it. Its the last thing on my Saiga that I have yet to do. Once I get around to it, I am going to finish my conversion, and get a Bulgarian sight block on mine. Then it will look like a true AK-74.
It looks like you pressed the gas block/sight block off to get that standard handguard retainer on there. How much trouble was it to deal with the pinch rivets on the two blocks? Or, did it have any at all? I see what looks like pins at the bottom of both blocks.
Just so you know what I'm talking about, most new Saigas no longer have pins at the bottom of the gas block and sight block. They're all pinch-pressed with at the two dimples you see on each side of the two blocks.
You and I have the same wood kit... it's actually taiwanese, it's a good set. I'm sure you've shot this a lot since you filmed this so you know likely better than I.
My Saiga .223 has plastic parts with a grip, bi-pod, scope, and adjustable stock like a modernized look black rifle AK-47. I wish I had that wooden type AK-47 Saiga .223 makes mine look like cheap plastic rifle like the M16. NICE AK-47
Btw I live in CT as well. What a ridiculous law. I can own an sks chambered in 7.62x39 and a saiga chambered in .308 but no AK chambered in 7.62x39. We need to throw these dummies out.
I use 74 mags in my saiga 223. You need a bullet guide and a 223 follower. But its easy enough. The best way to go is to install the bullet guide in your rifle and use tapco galil mags. They are cheap, they work well and require no modifications. Have fun!
@semiautoriflelover yes ak74 mags will hold 30 rounds of 5.56/223 (to anyone who says otherwise, i just did it.) and i shot two mags of 5.56 out of my friends saiga using ak74 mags. so yeah. it works.
@ctfam - Well I wouldn't quite call it a better round, after all it is smaller, both in width and in leangth, making it less powerful, of course for close range, since it is still very lethal, and has quite a bit less recoil, you could take follow up shots much quicker... but at longer ranges the .223 is a much better cartidge IMO. Nice rifle btw! Sincerely- Brownnz.
Hey! Were did you get the Saiga? I can't find a gun shop that stocks them. And you were right in the other comment, the 7.62x39 version is illegal in this crappy state... but the .308 version is legal.. go figure. lol
@kulbant Hmmm I don't think so. Where did you get this info? Nope, never been to blue trail. I think they are holding an appleseed shoot there this month. I might go. You?
Man, vie got several thousand rounds through my 7.62x39 converted Saiga. I did the conversion myself, and I f'in love that rifle. I'm thinking of buying another Saiga and doing another conversion.
somebody must have told you your gun laws wrong... I'm confused as to why you can't have a saiga in 7.62x39. Unless you don't live in the US

@wysoft Naw man I got a bolt on retainer from Dinzag. Worked great and I didn't have to press that block off.

@semiautoriflelover I heard you could convert them.... I wouldn't try it. I'd just buy an AK-74. Better round, Better mags, Better rifle.

try using a stock ak-74 5.45mm mag, many people use them in their .223 saiga's without problems
