I quit wow cold-turkey exactly 11 months ago. I felt like shit for a couple weeks, I didn't know what to do, but after that passed I felt great. Even walking around in the streets I felt like oh my god I'm glad I'm not grinding in some instance right now. I went to the gym & got totally ripped, quit my job that i hated & got a better job that pays 3 times as much, got a social life (6 months later I was dating a pole dancer). If i hadn't quit I would still be a fat depressed guy grinding in WoW
It's addictive, but you can't compare it to cigarets ore crack.
cigarets, crack or any other type of drug actually have chemicals in them that make you addicted to it, WoW doesn't have those. WoW is just addictive cause it's fun!

I stopped playing MMOs in general because of the 3 hour rule (yes, I made that up). It seems that you need a minimum of 3 hours in any MMO to achive 'anything' (leveling up, quests, farming, etc...) and that's only if your lucky, because it usually take longer.
After I got married, I couldn't keep up. I can only manage to get 3 hours of free time like 2 or 3 times a week. Every time I meet anyone in-game they out-level me in a week or so.

@SuperHondakid Lolz i got my computer broke got it repaired in 1-2months tops then started up again :P.You are right it is a addiction which we cant help but do most of the time all the time. :PIve been playing for about 5-6yrs now and I cant help but love it.next year i think is either my 6-7th yr playing and my friend whos been playing right along with me has been playing as long as I have and we're best friends because of it. SO WoW has become a addiction to me and a passage way to get away.

WoW is deliberately made to be virtually unending so that those who are addicted to it will never get bored and keep playing. dont get me wrong, i love games and have spent alot of time playing games before, but no where near to the extent ive seen some people throw away their lives for fucking wow. those of you who play it recreationally and still have a life, kudos, mad kudos. blizzard is still a corrupt and evil company though, they sell a drug rather than a game.

@generosos87 now you might say, "all MMOs are virtually unending". not necessarily true. ive played a few mmos and they generally have a plateau of some sort, as in, you reach a point where youve either collected/done everything, or your damn close to it. its usually at this point you stop for a while and take a few months off before maybe creating a new file. wow however makes it so the only reason you make a new file is to use another class, and the old one you can keep using forever

I WAS An adict. I played it 6-10 hours a day.. I raised level 80 many times.. but.. my sub got out..i didn't payed for it even i cannot live without wow. i uninstalled it.. everyday i wanted to log in and installed it again.i joined private server and it got bored. now i am not adict, i don't play wow. ( even if i do its like 3-5 times in a month on private server). Wow changed my life... But i got the old life back.

The main reason people who play this game play it so much is because when they are playing it their brain releases endorphins which make them happy and people naturally enjoy this feeling now I will admit some people can seem addicted to wow but in the majority of cases this is just because they have an addictive personality

world of warcraft is just a freaking hobby.. ofc a hobby is somthing you like to do all the time and some ppl can't stop it and yes.. it is that whit mutch more then wow.. not games but things you do like ... golf etc.. but not able to do it all the time.. but you able to play kinda all time just need to find out your self kinda .. How long or how often you play doesn't necessarily govern whether or not your addicted. Player A could play for 12 hours a day, while Player B could play for only 3. When Friend C asks Player A to go to a party, and player A says yes (thereby cutting into his WoW schedule) he is not addicted. But if Friend C asks Player B and Player B declines and would rather stay home and play WoW, then he's addicted. Also, you can't be 'addicted' to a game: it isn't physically possible.

The definition of addicted is thus: physiologically or psychologically dependent on a potentially harmful drug. WoW is not a drug. Nicotine is (and is addictive). It is a virtual game. All the studies are wrong. Saying your addicted to WoW or Poker is merely an excuse to imply it isn't entirely the fault of the addicted group in question.

The English language has many faults, as evident with that definition. The word addicted is thrown around too loosely in that sense and in this context. It's one of those words you would use to make one side of an argument look bad, while still not going off on an irrelevant tangent or providing false information. Just because some socially awkward high school kid calls it an addiction doesn't make it so. Its more of an escapism than anything.

I stopped playing MMOs in general because of the 3 hour rule (yes, I made that up). It seems that you need a minimum of 3 hours in any MMO to achive 'anything' (leveling up, quests, farming, etc...) and that's only if your lucky, because it usually take longer.
After I got married, I couldn't keep up. I can only manage to get 3 hours of free time like 2 or 3 times a week. Every time I meet anyone in-game they out-level me in a week or so.
I stick with offline games now.

Really stupid! WoW isn´t an addiction as you know it (Cocaine, etc) and should not be compared! WoW is like steroids! There is USE, and there is ABUSE! If ur willing to give up everything for WOW, u had a problem before u even started playing WOW!
