It wasn't inspired by the Office in particular, it's a mockumentary, there are plenty of them about, this is one of the best! And anyway The Office series with Michael Scott is completely inspired by the better British series starring Ricky Gervais!

The american "the office" and the british "the office" are two entriely different shows...

the american is honed for the american audience... so its got more jokes, gags, and probably a eliment of slapstick... so your laughing cus its silly...

whereass the english one is honed for a british audience, and the comedy for the british audience is about how true it is... its more of a trajic-comedy, its just so blissfully insightful of office life... your laughing because you understand...

@boylemburner I think youre right to an extent but if you watch the first 2 and maybe the 3rd season of the American Office I think there are plenty of those based on real life, very subtle moments. The American office has done 6 seasons of about 25 episodes per season (aside from season 1 and season 4) and there are only so many times a facial expression or simple yet awkward conversation can be funny. It always had a little more "slap stick" but wasnt so different for the first few seasons.

Here in australia, they have a really popular show called kath and kin the amricans made there own version and it got cancelled. They also copied idol off the english too.
