i use to live in sidcup and went to hurtsmere 22 years ago and i fished at the glade and caught some nice fish right close in the top end of the lake where the wire is useing bread flake about 6inches under the float and caught loads of small roach and carp..thats was when it was fre to fish there and you have to get down the early to get the best place outisewise you have to move right down the end.. still half down also produce so goo fish ..nice fishes
Fishing is a international world wide treasure of pleasure! If we all learned to fish together war as we know it would end. Only fight would be who could get to the honey hole first! Mamasboy815 U.S.A. down south.
i used to fish the 5 arches river about 20 years ago. there was only about 10 carp in there at the time including a big fat mirror of 20 plus "a big carp in those days" it had tons of bream and pike, some of them big. last time i heard it was closed to fishing due to complaints from the neighbouring houses. blinding little place to fish. you could get up in the trees and watch the carp feeding on your bait. i only caught 5 carp, all small, lost a big mirror. would love to fish there again.
@FromTheBankFishing iremember there used to be some big carp feeding right in rfront of that arch, the passers by would see them and freak out and i would be like "shoosh man!" lol i think they went there for the bloodworm. nice venue.
Is there a hybrid record? cos last time i checked there wasnt but is in ireland?.. and it was being talked about actually having them reconised here in the uk?.. I dont suppose it matters but i cant see how it would work as most of the time a hybrid is a guess.. you see a little roach and a little bream but its only ever 99.% sure of what hybrid it is, so how can ya have records? Anyway nice lil vid, sidcup is great as is most suffolk, aint fished there for years but was great when i did! :).
I just remember my dad going on about it, lol suffolk was where i lived until i was about 8, im 29 now lol but i remember him saying he took me to sidcup all the time to as he loved it there to, i get mixed up with all the places (i assumed it was suffolk to) lol. I moved down south when i was 8, sorry lol theres new market and all sorts little names in suffolk i remember i got mixed up. My dad loved sidcup. Is there a place called the 3 arches or 5 arches? there. (My memory is bad lol)
I just know he grew up all hios live in sidcup and probs why he took me there alot. I didnt realise it wasnt in suffolk as it was 21 years ago lol. I have lots photos tho of me with lots of nice fish in Sidcup and suffolk (now i realise they diff places lol) as its wrote on back each location. 5 arches is one place on a photo i think. Anyways, any fishing is better than down here i can tell you. :o) no probs for the comment even tho it made me look stupid, arr well. lol
it was a crucian mate, but im not too sure whether it was a hybrid or not, remember, this is the winter and feeding patterns change, therefore the fish themselves look slightly different - this just adds to the problem of whether it was a true crucian or not!!! lol
hi, thanks for replying. Scissorfight's videos show tru crus, I think. The Glade fish looks more like a brown goldfish or cru x goldfish hybrid. Tru crus don't feed much below about 12 degrees but goldfish feed throughout the winter - probably the same for hybrids. Another cross to look foris cru (or goldfish) x carp. Usually has tiny barbules, sometimes only two. Whatever it was, it was a beauty!
cheers mate, no doubt it was a nice fish, but the reason they're called brown goldfish are because nobody knows what the crucians have been breeding with! that's just slang for a crucian hybrid, i do think it's hybrid, but crucians are slags lol - nonetheless it was an achievement in itself to catch on a cold winter day like that, at a totally wild lake! lol
Hi again! I was in the goldfish rearing business for some yearsand 50% of our fish never turned gold, but stayed brown. A lot of those were sold off to commercial fisheries, cos they were tough and always hungry! trouble is they cross breed with native crus to make a hybrid which looks a bit like both but not quite!
The Glade looks a super water and the tench looks a cracker.
cheers mate - it's based in sidcup and it a totally natural and naturally stocked water, the greatest thing about it is that all the fish are BRITISH born and bred, the carp get to high 30's and the tench get to about 11lbs with the potential crucian hybrid record in there as it was once caught at 7lbs but never claimed! It's no commercial this lake! lol cheers for the comment mate, appreciate it
