  • I unfocussed my eyes at about 4:50 and saw a really scary face!

  • @RH98 i think you were high

  • @2pacAmazesSuperman Yeah, high on Chopin!... (and meth)

  • This is so beautifully played it brings tears to my eyes EVERY TIME.

  • RIP HOROWITZ---THE KING OF PIANO!

  • R.I.P Horowitz you will be always remembered.

  • αγγελική μορφή!

  • If this music doesn't touch your soul, nothing will.

  • Is anyone living as good as Horowitz?

There's this really cocky asian guy that a lot of people admire...what about him? To say I seriously doubt it would be an understatement.

  • @juicyj612 are you referring to yundi li, yirumaor someonelse.

  • @H96Sean Probably Lang Lang

  • @juicyj612 YUNDI LEE and also LANG LANG - - - -- - they are both EXCELLENT.

    Barbara Todres/NYC

  • @lovingee1 Lang Lang is not comparable to Horowitz, even for joke

  • Comment removed

  • Horowitz >>>>>> Lang Lang and any expert of piano interpretation knows that

  • @juicyj612 Check Evgeny Kissin and Nikolai Lugansky

  • Epic!

  • How old is he?

  • @DaRkLORDnUb he was born 1903 and died 1989. so 86 when he died. this performance was in 1986, so 83 years old.

  • @qmpr Thanks. But i'm sad now :(

  • @qmpr almost. this concert was 1968, so he was 65 years old.

  • @tirolerhut79 oh, woops, got the numbers mixed up, aha. thanks, tirolerhut79.

  • brilliant, what a genius.

  • This man is the definition of greatness!

  • 4:44 is like dreaming in a dream..parallels exist!

  • thank you

  • 3 people prefer the E flat major...

  • 3 people haven't got heart and soul...

  • Pure beauty ! Chopin was a genius, this is one of my favorite nocturne. And one of my favorite pianist plays it, just magical.

  • What a brilliant melody!

  • he plays this a lot better to my sister...no offense to her. haha

  • doesn't he seem to sit unusually close to the keys and low too? but always beautiful.

  • @brotou Nah, there is no substitute for musical genius. Look at Bud Powell play the piano, according to almost all of my classical teachers in the past, he had some of the "worst" technique yet he could play circles around all of them and is probably one of the greatest pianists to ever grace this earth.

  • I never get sick of watching this video. I think Chopin was easily the greatest composer of all time. Yes, Bach, Handel, Haydn, Beethoven, Mozart, Brahams, etc, etc, were brilliant in their own right, but I think Chopin was the most unique of all of them. His sense of harmony was well ahead of it's time.

  • master play master piece

  • Chopin is applauding in heaven.

  • Incredible!

  • With this recording, I dream that I could transcend time to watch Vladimir play his Steinway for Chopin and see the response (smile). I imagine the interpretation may be different on Chopin's Pleyel. Sad that the genius, Chopin, never made it to age 40.

  • ..great gentleman,..

  • Just tremendous.

  • @neverhoodyn I just thumbs downed your comment, A- because you mentioned such a stupid name in the presence of something so great, and B- you are shamelessly trying to get attention.

  • @torontoBluejays87

I was being satirical you philistine.

  • 3 people are going to hell.

  • @scampywiak

one of them is bin laden !

  • This beautiful music was used in a trailer for a game, Witcher 2, never has a trailer sounded so amazing.

  • @Chromie192 Yes that's perfect combination of the Sapkowski's protagonist, Geralt of Rivia with Chopin music and skills of polish computer scientists and developers of the game! Poland rocks!

  • Horowitz, Zimerman and Pollini!!!! Pianists with character!!!

  • Who are those 3 who thumbed this video down?

I guess Lang-Lang, Amirov and Matsuev!!

  • @f1f1s better yet, lang-lang's multiple accounts:)

  • beautiful, just beautiful ! i donno what to say, im speechless !

  • born to be the master of piano

  • He makes the piano look small.

  • If you ever have the chance to watch footage of Vladimir Horowitz being interviewed you will have a rare treat indeed. He has the most marvelous facial expressions! Of course it all comes through in his passionate playing.

  • You can always feel the rhythm in how he plays, and the lines he creates. It's magnificent.

  • a true artist disappears to let the music speak for itself. Outstanding. Lang Lang can take this and shove it up his pie hole.

  • What a shame we don't have any more such soloist... our world is indeed empty...

  • dusza gra

  • Oh what a lovely --tune.

  • i'm playing this piece and it is beautiful and i love it.

  • @hubanj , i would like to request you remove all the comments of this pointless "argument"

  • Ah, a poor uninformed ignoramous. I'm done with you and your stupidity.

  • the ending of this piece is so perfect... just as if you were to leave your most beloved, full of turmoil and finally an unforgettable kiss... chopin, you must have been around now for us(there's no one as good as you now...)...

  • superb!

  • the arrangement of each chord has it's reason and HOROWITZ truely understands the purpose of each note and present it perfectly!!!

  • I hate to be the one nay sayer, but I've heard better versions of the song. Horowitz's handling of the crocheting in the bass is sort of choppy and as a result his melody sounds disjointed, as if he were perpetually rushing from segment to segment.

  • @AwesomeMcBadAss . Because as you read the score, you would find his tempo and rhythm doesn't fit the score at all e.g. at 3:01, 3:20 but this is how he interpreted it

  • @simoncs89 What are you talking about?

It is the correct tempo! it says piu mosso right over the section. plus he's Howowitz, he could have played Yankee Doodle and we would have still thought it was Chopin.

  • the part at 4:23 just brings me tears.... what a performance... I wish Horowitz is still here today.. :( I really want to shake his hands,,,, and thank you Chopin for composing another great piece :)

  • @edgelee84 I agree with you---that particular section of this nocturne has always made me cry. I don't care if anyone thinks that Horowitz misinterprets Chopin, he was the person who brought Chopin into my life, and I will be forever grateful.

  • Pekisch est aux anges....

  • fucking cool

  • What year was this recorded??

  • It was recorded in 1968.

  • That ending was so good

  • wow. chopin was a real damn genius, i'm proud

  • haha im doing a report on Horowitz right now i finally got a real video of him!

  • horowitz has a lot of live videos. you should check them out its very very great.

  • IF 99,99% of other people could only feel (not even play) like this Man the world would be a paradise, indeed.

  • indeed.

  • @KlassikFan2007 that they cannot makes this all the more sweeter

  • @KlassikFan2007 you don't know at all this man

  • @KlassikFan2007 why 99.99% i think you meant, if 0.01%.

  • @TheRightNeutrino such a clever and true statement

  • one of my favorite nocturnes.

  • This is one of the greatest performances on YouTube, not only by Horowitz but by any musician. It brings out the very best of this magnificent pianist and demonstrates his remarkable qualities. I have rarely heard a performance so perfectly shaped and balanced yet spontaneous as this. Chapeau.

  • Excellent. Love the trills. MAsterful

  • Horowitz est un interprète exceptionnel!C'est un bonheur de l'écouter!

  • This is my favourite interpretation of Chopin - I watch it all the time!

The little interest people take in it is just a proof of ignorance!

  • @Maxamize100 Or taste. Breaking news, different people have different tastes.

  • It is strange how is this song unknown. I mean look how few people saw this video on youtube and this is the only interpretation of this piece on youtube. So, where is the problem when this piece is so damn beautiful. I am not far to orgasm. :P

  • There are lots of covers of this song on youtube.

  • @bilbomarks this is classical music/ there are no "covers" and this is not a "song"

  • @John19182004 I love this song. I hope to cover it some day.

  • @bilbomarks ONCE AGAIN. this is not a "cover" of a "song".

    Learn something about music.

  • @John19182004 I did that purposely. There's always someone out there that wants to feel better than others by elevating their style of music above others. A shameful elitist attitude. I don't call these songs "pieces" because to me, that puts them on a pedestal. The people who made these were just that. People. Sacks of skin and guts.

  • @bilbomarks a song is a song, a nocturne is a nocturne, a waltz is a waltz, a ballade is a ballade, a polonaise is a polonaise. And you're an asshole.

  • @John19182004 Ah, but a poor elitist as well. Resorting to insults rather than a logical argument at the drop of a hat. In any case, I believe the descriptors polonaise/nocturne etc are not mutually exclusive from the word song. I.E. A polonaise is a polish song as well as a dance.

  • @bilbomarks Actually, a song is a PIECE with singing and words. so calling something a song implies singing. calling something what it is does not put it on a pedestal, its just proper terminoligy. I do agree that people get to worked up about it AND they do it for the wrong reason.

  • @TheGuyWhoJustShotYou The conventional definition of song implies singing, yes. But the term is now more of a blanket statement even given to instrumental "songs" of non classical ties. Something by Explosions in the Sky (post rock, all instrumental) would not be called a piece, even though a song by them is every bit as "valid" as Mozart.

  • @John19182004 you're letting such a little detail annoy you so much, grow up, shut up, and listen to this damn fine music.

  • @nmbanana dont' tell me to GROW UP. I"m more mature that you'l ever be. In fact I've got more maturity in my left testicle than you'll ever have in 25 lifetimes.

If you'd learn what a nocturne is. And what asong is. And what a polonaise is, etc, you'd at least start to show some hope of a meaninful life. As it is, you're completely a lost-cause that needs to either end his life, or improve it, and FAST.

  • @John19182004 mature enough to take such a little detail that no one really cares about, then make a big stink about it. i know very well what a nocturne, polonaise, etc. is. your just having a little hissy fit, take a nap, and maybe some st. john's wart, it will help your temper.

  • @nmbanana NO ONE REALLY CARES ABOUT? Yeah. no one except anyone with a BRAIN.

Now either please go drop DEAD or go fuck yourself. Or educate yourself.

  • @John19182004 someone w/ a brain would realize that letting people call a piece a song doesn't affect the music, and would not make a huge stink over something so pointless. I'm serious, the St. John's wart would help.

  • is it the audio quality or is the piano in need of a tuning?

  • actually i love the sound of the piano its mellow and goes well with this piece. =]

  • srsly? can't you hear it's out of key?

  • actually beleive it or not its not. his piano sounds like this in all videos or most of his videos. search up on youtube "horowitz piano tuner" there franz more, his piano tuner will tell you the sound of the piano and whats so special about iy.

  • Audio quality... Horowitz had that bitch tuned like 3 times between each performance even if they were on consecutive days. He took that piano EVERYWHERE. To him it was perfect, so that very piano (the only one he would perform on) was crated and flown all over the world many times.

  • he liked that piano becasue it had a very mellow and nasal tone in it. thats why it seems like the audio quiality. but acutally its the piano that sounds like that. i have played on his piano before and it sounds exactly the same as in this video. i really wish id have a sound like tht piano

  • @spike2133876 wow when did you get to try his piano?

  • In new jersey, in paramus to be exact there is a steinway and sons showroom. they deliver his piano once a year to that showroom and let it be there for about a week for people who want to come in and try it

  • @spike2133876 Actually, that's not the same piano that tours Steinway showrooms. The one that tours is CD 503. The piano in this video was CD 186, which VH used from 1965-1972. But it does have a similar tonal quality.

  • He plays it so well, but his hands are flat not rounded. Its a wonder he manages to move his hands so well.

  • what do you mean by flat?

  • When one plays the piano his hands should be rounded. If you look at the way his hands hover over the piano, they are flat. An example of perfect hand positioning is if you can imagine fitting your hand around a small circular rock and playing like that. It is in order to help your hands to move more freely so you can hit the sharps and flats while still holding the natural keys.

  • When one has fingers as strong and agile as Horowitz, it is less important to curl the fingers.

  • what i think he means is that his fangers are strait instead of being curved. this is becuase horowitz had huge and long figers, so his posotion of the hand was changed. because of this he couldent play chopin etude op 10 no 1

  • @ninjaman00 it's much easier to play flat-fingered, and not like the teachers tell you is best, with that ridiculous curved-fingered technique that produces no tonal quality.

  • Wow this is great! You can really feel this!

  • my favourite performance of this nocturne .. brilliant

  • he plays this so calm.....so speeches.............

he plays pure music what the composer wanted1

    thank you volodia!

  • Just beautiful... No words...

  • This is perhaps one of my favorite Nocturnes, what a great find this is!

  • This is a wonderful, I remember playing it before the AML is Anne Margerritte Long, I think Horowitz's playing is the most cognizant and sensitive to the potential of (emotional projection and subjection), there has ever been in piano playing.

  • This Chopin Nocturne is one of the most beautiful pieces ever composed, and Horowitz could play it more beautifully than anyone I've ever heard. Heard him play it live in London in '86 I believe. All I can say is stunning.

  • yep! Stunning is a perfect word to describe Horowitz's performances!

  • Absolutely sublime, the best version of this piece ever!! just amazing that all i can say, just perfect in my eyes.

  • rare and unique.

  • That was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

  • predivno
