  • said it before ,the posh punk band that outlasted punk!

  • In Battersea?

  • Rattus Norvegicus. Hanging Around.

This is the one. Not necessarily the best - but the one.

  • its great

  • he's got attitude... and it comes through... he's not singing, he's living it!

  • One of the best base sounds and keyboarists in the punk era

  • ya i like the stangers

  • WOW THANKS FOR THE RAP AD BEFORE THE PUNK VID

  • @joeyg2 glad you got past the ad! after waiting 20 mins for the ad to load i gave up. FUCKING VEVO CUNT!

(ps, this is not at you joeyg2, I thought I'd join the venom!)

    VEVO CUNTS

  • See 1978 Nice n' Sleazy from Battersea Park concert on You Tube. It keeps getting taken down but it keeps re-appearing ; )

    Listen to the bass guitar.

  • VEVO really sucks, but not the Stranglers (:

  • fuck off am i watching a video with an advert, fuck you EMI

  • The most charismatic man. Forget Morrison,

  • I take it you mean Jim, rather than Van?

Either way, fuck them! Jim is one of the most over rated performers I've ever known! And it all comes from that daft Doors film with Valerie Killmore. Jim was embarrassingly pretentious. Especially with his poetry, which was never really much cop, if we're being honest.

That said, as a band, the Doors made some cracking albums and I reckon "The End" is still in my top 5 of all top, maybe top 10 at the least. If you'd said Morrissey, we'd be arguing! ;-)

  • Actually, I was wrong with what I just said. Jim was far from being an overrated performer. By all accounts he was one of the best live performers of all time. What I meant to say and should have said was that James was simply overrated and very pretentious. That doesn't mean he wasn't absolutely fantastic on the stage, though.

I also meant to say that The Doors made some cracking songs, rather than albums too, though they did make 3-4 great albums; The Doors, Morrison Hotel and Strange Days

  • fucking brilliant. hugh needs to get back with the stranglers. swallow his pride.

stranglers need to take over the world

  • @oblongfan1 "Stranglers need to take over the World"

    Well.... that's a scary thought.

Though, I suppose Steve Wright and Albert DeSalvo would appreciate your sentiments.

  • By the way, just thinking. Have you heard of Football (Soccer) Hooliganism in England? When fans of rival teams kick shit out of each other and destroy the opposing teams city's, etc?

Well, I was just wondering if fans of shapes suffer similar hooligan problems. What I mean is, do you ever get trouble from fans of other shapes, who maybe hate Oblong things? In England you can't wear soccer shirts/colours in pubs/bars to try prevent violence. In USA do they ban clothing with shapes on them? ;-)

  • 1 more thing. I'm presuming from your name that you're the number 1 Oblong fan. Is that just in the US or internationally? Is it an official title and if so, how did you prove that you love and support the shape "oblong" more than anyone else? Was there a competition? When will you next have to compete to retain the title of number 1 fan of the shape of Oblong in the USA/World? Is there much tough competition? How do you get on with the number one fans of other shapes? Particularly the Triangle?

  • @Triplesod in response; jessup jessup jessup!

  • why the hell didnt these guys stick around ? where the hell are they now - very cool

  • @VoltageLineTV dude these guys were on tour this year

  • @mcjammydapkers They did tour, but without the lead singer, guitarist Hugh Cornwell. Hugh Cornwell just toured doing his solo thing and the entire first The Stranglers album. It would be FANTASTIC if the original line up got back together for one more tour. The Stranglers without Hugh Cornwell is not The Stranglers.

  • @ekolke yea, he was in Lithuania last year. And yes The Strangers were never the same without him... unfortunately the old songs were not the same without Greenfield.

  • @VoltageLineTV touring england in feb-mar 2011

  • I think people who say Cornwell's not a good guitarist miss a trick. His solos are well thought out, distinctive and economical. A far cry from self indulgence. And he wrote the best surf guitar leads in the seventies with Sewer and Toiler.

  • loved the story about Jean-Jacques Burnel tying a reporter to a tree.........one of the best bands ever to come out of britain

  • Jet ,had his mouth open like a St.Bernard sucking in the cool air.......

  • Glastonbury here I come; fucking great live band without that twat Cornwell

  • christ he told his mother, christ he told her not to bother

  • i played bass in a band in the 80s and this was my fav to do what a bass line

  • dommage que la date ne soit pas donnée..;

    super concert

  • love the intro and that sweeping arppegiated synth, so awsome.

  • Hugh has a fantastic voice an JJ great stage presence. Perfect !!

  • @eezy1972 Yeah they should have quit when Hugh left

  • time less my buds backek them in toronto and the stranglers drank all their booze fuckin time less just hagin around hahahahahahahahahaha

  • m.s.c. here......im spending far too much time just hanging around....spiderette cat loves this tune, especially the monkey on the shoulder,,,,,,,quality keyboards mr Greenfield.....x

  • just love the way hugh sings hanging around love you 4 ever...magicspidercat from cranleigh

  • I read somewhere that the two leads mimicked that stepping back and then moving forth from Sam and Dave. Incidentally, I think the Clash went on to copy the move from these fellas.

  • Peerless. Underrated. Supremely talented and intelligent. You could put all of the identikit 'indie' bands of today together and they couldn't come up with an iota of the originality, creativity and awesome energy displayed in the 3 minutes here.

  • when music was music

    Class

  • im in the crowd somewhere battersea park late 70s

  • Jazz, blues, and classical musicians get together, get high, and you get this.

  • absolutely top class stuff, was lucky enough to be there on that lovely sunny day in battersea park and one of my mates got a pair of the strippers knickers thrown into the audience when they performed nice n' sleazy, wonder if hes still got them?

  • I think more interesting than anything being done today!

  • štuliću lopove!

  • 75 was a good year!

p.s there is no god :)

  • @cfcrob 75?

  • @lollygaggle

Indeed, it was 1977.. how could I ever forget, Rattus Norvegicus was the soundtrack to my 16 year old summer... happy daze.. :)

  • These guys were freaking brilliant~ check out all their music, amazing layers and complexity! They truly ROCK!!

  • so true... i would even say this is better than some of the music today, haha! to me it sounds like ozzy's crazy train! the beginning riff.
